I wonder if this 4 shows in a big city thing is going to become a habit.

I say it only happens if they continue doing these mini tours.

    For now, speculate away.

for some reason i find that doubtful. that said, my gawd, that would be AWESOME! just pleeeeaassssseeeee, EARLY august! it would utterly suck to miss any of my hometown shows due to work, and i most definitely would miss shows if any were end of august thru september 15th. same deal with march/april. do please keep this in mind pj. ;)

and yes, i know i am quite alone in my thinking, but man, if they are going to do another long run, 3-4 shows...in NY....in the summer...i would love, love, love to see them at jones beach! i didn't see them there in 2000, my first show was uniondale 2003....but man, would LOVE it! i was *just* by the jones beach theatre this past sunday, taking a fabulous walk on the boardwalk, enjoying this fantastic weather here...and yea.....would be GREAT.

The current L.A. shows are through Live Nation.

Anyway, I hear they're working on a deal to do 10 nights at the new Giants Stadium. At the first show, they're going to play the "Born To Run" album in its entirety.

I used to work at MSG, as well as for Delsener/Slater (before becoming Live Nation). I usually email my old boss to find out inside info, since she knows what dates bands are holding MSG, and what bookings are confirmed. I'm not going to email her on this because this is simply (probably) way too early to have anything FIRM booked.

E.G. Probably no one else knows that Pearl Jam had MSG on hold for 2 nights in November 2005. A few months before those November 2005 MSG shows, the released their hold. Then, Pearl Jam had MSG on hold for 2 nights in May 2006. They again gave up their hold, and played two shows in NJ instead and Storytellers on the date they originally held MSG for. They ended up playing 2 nights at MSG in 2008... 2.5 years after they had originally planned.

The point I'm getting to is... of course PJ is talking with LN about playing MSG. They do this all the time as well as other tour plans. Only when a "hold" is placed is there serious intent... and even then, they've many times put a hold, and then passed on the gig.

And, yes, PJ has worked with Live Nation since it's inception. They originally worked with Ron Delsener Presents, then Delsener/Slater, then SFX bought out D/S, then Clear Channel bought out SFX, and now Live Nation.

...again, all I'm saying is that "conversations" are always happening, but I would not get excited so early, or until my old boss emails me saying "guess what's on hold again".

    Haha... yeah. That darned experience.

There could be something to this guy's claim though. You just never know who you're talking to on a board (me included, be skeptical of everyone) but a booking almost a year in advance? Not likely. But... I'm hoping they'll book there. I need a reason to head up there again. Miss my hometown.

When I hear anything that I'm not told in significant confidentiality, I'll pass it on to y'all. No news for now though.

I thought MSG was a TM venue? A TM stronghold for that matter. Perhaps LN is promoting?
Anyway I am in favor of this!

but damn, four nights would cost a small fortune

LN and all promoters at MSG sell tickets thru TM. LN has only fairly recently begun offering some tickets thru their own website. ...if there's an exclusivity agreement for TM to handle tickets for a particular venue, that wouldn't stop LN from being the promoter. :)

  • MSG --- is not a Live Nation venue. It is possible they will be selling the tix but MSG never has anything to do with Live Nation. Most arenas of that kind do not but MSG specifically. Just saying.....

How do you mean "MSG never has anything to do with Live Nation"? Live Nation produces tons of concerts there, and is on-site (as all promoters are during their respective shows) producing the event. Just last year I was backstage at MSG during the PJ soundcheck and Live Nation's production office was at the end of the dressing room corridor with someone I used to work with running the show. Live Nation produces many many concerts at MSG. They did when they were originally Ron Delsener Presents. They did when they were called SFX. They did when they were called Clear Channel, and they still do today under Live Nation.

MSG, and most arenas, are open to pretty much any promoter to rent and produce a show at (as opposed to amphitheaters which are usually exclusive to a promoter), but I would venture to say that LN is the individually largest producer of concerts at MSG.

Izod (formerly Continental Airlines) Arena is so close you can see the NYC skyline from.

Nassau Coliseum is about 30 miles east of NYC.

Jones Beach Amphitheater (summer only) is also about 30 miles east of NYC.

...I think that's it as far as large venues that PJ is likely to play.

yeah no other big venues inside the city. if it were the summer i would never see them going to the coliseum over jones beach. also there is the prudential center now in newark which holds 18,000 people
