Why Are PJ Fans Haters?

I am very shocked how PJ fans treat each other on here. There is no common courtesy or respect from the majority of posters. I can’t even believe I like the same music as someone that loves to insult, denigrate and belittle people at the level it is done on this site. Can you help me understand, Please?

I don't see any haters. I think there's one side on here that is open to civil debate, and one that has no original position except for putting down the other side.
  • i think that people just have different opinions,thats all..sometimes is hard,funny,ironic..like the real life..all ok :D

It's a matter of different opinions like dimitris said. However, some people don't know how to keep their emotions in control when speaking out of opinion. That goes for the world, not just this board.

Sure we all love PJ...but that doesn't make it candyland. :(

I agree with you but the only thing I can find to compare it to is my workplace. I know when I look around at people I work with, I see some who apparently live their lives trying to make others either feel, or look, badly. They thrive on gossip and listening to themselves talk - even when they're not saying anything relevant. I guess they think being mean is cool or something.

They just seem like really unhappy people to me. I can't figure out any other reason for having the perspective they do. Given the number of people on the board, it figures that a certain percentage of them are going to be just like the people you encounter in the workplace everyday. I ran into a few, similar people at the ACL festival on Sunday. The only thing I can figure is that their universe must be pretty limited. 8-)

any time you have a bunch of people debating religion, politics, and current events you are asking for trouble. we are not all going to get along and it is foolish to think that we will. sometimes people's debating gets a little heated, but it is never pesonal.

Why is it that if someone doesn't agree on this board they are called haters or thread crashers or some shit. Not everyone has the same opinions in this world, just because we like the same music, doesn't mean we are going to like the exact same song or exact same lyrics or exact same whatever.

  • Yes there are people with different opinions and some people get passionate about it but 9 times out of 10 there's no hard feelings and people end up laughing about it.

There may be the occasional individual who thrives on gossip mongering and putting people's backs up but I find that if you ignore their melodrama and laugh at their ridiculous posts, you don't get affected.

I've always found the community here helpful, friendly and humourous. Most people will help you out either online or in person. I can't even begin to count how many times i've been sent stuff through the post, been given things at shows or even just given advice, love and support.

Life would be pretty boring if we were all the same.

Trust me, Pearl Jam fans are far from being haters.

Calling people morons or idiot's or much worse, is personal.... there are those that feel there opinions deem them more intelligent than someone elses opinion, which results in VERY nasty name calling. How intelligent is that? Is it personal or are they looking for attention?

I'm thinking that maybe you've experienced this recently and that's why the thread was started?

i dunno, to me it seems like this thread is seeking attention. yes those things happen sometimes but i stand by my explanation from earlier. like it was said many times in prfectlefts thread 2 weeks ago, if you are going to take things personally perhaps it would be better for you not to post here? seriously, if you feel we are all haters, why do you put yourself in an environment like this?

This is the internet and growing a thick skin is a good thing we won't always agree or like what someone has posted. They're some here who post here that their style of posting is completely different than yours and rub you the wrong way. However we can learn to understand that style cause this time in 6 months we won't remember hardly anything about this thread.

Remember there's no whining/crying on the internet play it like it's water off a duck's back.

I don't think it has much to do with thick skin as much as it has to do with choosing not to indulge in negativity. As was pointed out by another poster, people get hell bent on continuing to tell you you're stupid or that what you're saying is moronic. These actions only magnify their inability to interact in a positive manner. ESPECIALLY when you continue to try to explain a position and communicate objectively.

I think Ed says it best:

I think overall, the MT bunch are not really "haters". It's in the Porch that you see the intense negativity, and I think a lot has to do with simply people not happy about anything. There are lots of people everywhere that are typically like this.

i often wonder why some seemingly assign a higher level of respect for pj fans, like somehow they are a cut above the average person on the street. they, we, really aren't. and as to how people treat each other here, it's the inhternet! there's your answer. that really is it. i have come to realize there is a very different lelvel of conduct on the internet. not excusing it, just looking at it for what it is. luckily, i find most people choose not to degrade themselves in that manner, but yes, there are many who do. don't let it get to ya...

    I think you're being a bit dramatic here...so someone doesn't agree with someone else...big deal...it's not hating, it's discussion...

I think some take things personally...

There's lots of bickering and banter just like in any other aspect of life. I don't often post in MT, but I enjoy reading all the stuff in here, makes me think.

Don't take it to heart, there's more lovers than haters on the site. :)

Meh ... I wouldn't say haters. I do wish that I could somehow surrender the goal of changing people's minds when posting on here, though. Some people's emotional reasoning is basically impervious to logic or counterexamples, which is something I should have learned ages ago ... Oh well.

Wow. I haven't looked at MT in a few years, but used to read and post daily. It seemed that when I first started posting I saw quite a bit of rudeness and lack of acceptance. I can remember a lot of crap about who makes the most money, has a prestigious job, etc. Then that stopped, I think it took people getting banned or suspended and people just admitting who they really are, like lower income such as me. Things still could get heated, but for the right reasons instead of foolishness. So, I am surprised to read this post.
I am hoping its not that bad.

Now, that is what it is suppose to be. Of course we won't agree, isn't that the purpose of this part of this site?
I know, after being banned twice, that I needed to try and think of debate class at school and address things here like that. There were people here who knew how to get under my skin and would do so every chance they got. I was stupid enough to play right into it. Its a web site!!!! Its not worth a coronary!!!! LOL!
I hope things are like they use to be.

To some degree I see people trashing each other, but I do think it's a two way street.

For example, people these days just seem poised to be offended by any statement to which they disagree.

Also, there's a big difference between saying "that's stupid" and "YOU are stupid". Often, people take criticism of an action as criticism of them as a person.

I remember a thread not too long ago where someone made a statement about that it was a good idea to know the expense of giving birth to a child before getting pregnant. To me, that's good, sound advice, but some people seemed genuinely offended by it.

I feel that's what started this thread... the OP was making some wild accusations in another thread and when people asked for some proof and criticized the intellectual dishonesty of passing off internet chain e-mails as solid fact research, they didn't take it so well. I've no doubt the OP has the best of intentions, but saying someone's stances lack merit or support in fact does not mean one is saying they themselves are an idiot or whatever.

exactly. all i did was ask for a link so i could look at the website because clearly that poster was not the author of that particular post. it was cut and pasted from an email or a website and i just wanted to see more info about it so i can "do my own research".

    Well... okay. i'll play fair.
What should I call a person who makes a moronic comment... or an idiotic statement? I ususally try to phrase it like, "Only an idiot would believe that there are 'Death Panels' written into a House Bill that requires 50% of 435 Representatives to pass"... or "It is a moronic statement to say President Obama is a Fascist, Socialist Communist Nazi" because the person is either a moron or an idiot and wouldn't understand it was an insult.

What they mean is "Why are people expecting me to have facts and stuff? That's so mEEEAAAANN."
