I'm older also. I think your request is silly, but I have a legit way to help you. Wear ear plugs. You will hear the band fine, but not everyone around you. This will work. I have to wear them, so I know. Asking fans, especially avid ones on this site, not to sing!! You should have known you'd get flamed.

How bout just not go lol I could say the same for the parents who have to bring their kids and are offended by the pot smoke... Seriously, if we can't sing or jump around, whats the point? :D

I don't wear the ear plugs because of singing fans around me!! I wear 'em to protect my ears. I love going to shows and seriously I enjoy the music better. I want everyone to sing their heart out.

haha i didn't think of that being an issue, the 2nd Rush concert i went to, a couple in front of us brought their young kids, and the father was hitting off a bong the whole night...i found it irresponsible, yet funny

People sing at Pearl Jam shows. You just gotta go along with it! Better than hearing disinterested folks gab on their cell phones or to each other while Ed's singing no? At least most people are enjoying the show.

Okay, how did i miss this one, you do have a fair point if the person is next to you and is really really really loud and bad, but that doesn't happen too often. If you got a problem with the people around you why dont you just ask them to tone it down and see what you reaction you get bu you would be such a killjoy. In USA it must be funny because you gotta go through the whole night with the person sitting either side of you and you cant move...
  • BTW, I am really loud, off key, and high pitched. nails on a chalkboard i assume for everybody around me. if somebody ever tells me to quiet down, or even gives me a look as if to say i'm annoying them, i would do the polite thing and lower my voice an octave or two. however, i am also very proud of the hours i've spent studying this weirdo's (eddie's) lyrics, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to show off my vast knowledge.

so just suck it OP, and i mean that in a very loving and respectful (yet non-homosexual way). not that there's anything wrong with the homosexual way.

it's a pearl jam show, not a john william's london symphony orchestra special.
you might see a few fans wearing a suit & tie @ a pearl jam show,
but to not sing along with the music, that includes words ..

    that's fucked up!

stop telling me what i can and cant do at a concert-
its either the sit down jerk offs, or the stop singin' assholes... or the jerk off parents who bring their 4 year old kids to shows freaking out on everyone to watch out for their puppies. A note to All of you- Go fuck yourselves, and buy the DVD. This is PEARL JAM- It's freedom baby- so suck it up, and shut the fuck up about what I can or can't do.

You're right, its a free country. so I have the right to opine that the lousy singing is taking away from my concert going experience. so sing away Levy, just don't get hostile about it.

back in the day, I snuck one in in my chest area. I kind of wedged it in my bra in between "the girls" it just looked like I had giant boobs and it's not like they're going to feel a chick up. Of course this was many, many years ago. I still can't figure out why I didn't just roll a j or take a pipe. Ahhh youth.

  • Well, I kind understand what some people say and why they would be annoyed. And I always say I am not going to sing, BUT like someone in the thread said, once you're in the moment you just get swept along, especially if you feel you can relate to the songs. It's just such an incredible feeling that I start singing. But then my boyfriend said I may need singing lessons...this was at the Outside Lands in SF. I told him it might have been someone else he was listening to. I mean, we've been to PLENTY of PJ concerts and he hasn't said anything. Mmmmm....maybe he's finally reached that comfort level?

I don't care though.... tonight is the LA Show... YAY!! I hope they play Johnny Guitar!! :-)

I don't mind people singing along, except when they are horribly out of tune and don't know it, or worse, don't care.

Concerts are so loud, how can you even hear anyone else besides what's going on onstage anyway?
I'd rather hear everyone singing than talking on their cell phones or screaming out requests over and over again that will never get played.

Yeah I agree. People don't sound the same out loud as they do in their own head, and I get annoyed when the person behind me is singing horribly off key. I agree with the thread starter to a degree, there is a difference between singing along and yelling the lyrics, and I also think that people on this board need stop being such assholes to new people posing on the board.
