From those I've heard this year so far, San Francisco is the best mix and best performance. I've heard good things about Portland too but still waiting on my discs to arrive.

Both the Chicago shows are very disappointing, the performances are alright (I've heard them play better) but the mix is what really lets them down. Guitars too low, drums too high, bass all over the place.

Seattle II is much the same as the Chicago shows, though I think the band sound a bit better (and Ed's voice is in better form). Same mixing issues though.

Toronto is a mixed bag: the band are sloppy, Ed's voice is clearly not broken in yet, but it was still a fun listen. Not sure what to chalk that down to, but I liked it more than the previous three shows I mentioned.

    Hope that helps.

I listened to the O2 arena show here :

This show is the best of the tour so far, for me.

  • I've listened to probably 50 or so PJ bootlegs over the years, and the London O2 show is easily the best to me.

And not just because I was there either I hasten to add

I've heard the fan bootleg, and it's a good sounding show, but London edges it for me.

I think it's the crows dinging "Why go" to Ed when he says they won't be back in Europe for quite some time - "Ok, I hear you, you can shut the fuck up now..." (all said in good spirit of course) that does it.

And from a purely selfish perspective, in one of the "Which songs would you like to hear?" threads, between my two posts I said I wanted to hear Immortality, Rats and Leaving Here - and I got all three!

San Diego best 2009 bootleg so far ?
  • soulsingingsoulsinging Posts: 13,202
really? this is the only boot i've gotten so far and i thought it was pretty bad. it actually dropped my expectations for seeing them in philly at the end of the month. i was kinda hoping it was just an off night, but i thought it was a really sloppy performance. is it just me or does it seem like the band is rushing through all the songs. they played everything so damn fast. even songs like 'just breathe' were rushed. is this the fault of the drummer or the whole band? obviously they are all very capable musicians, do you think they are making a conscious effort to speed up the songs, or maybe the energy was just taking over and causing them to play fast? i don't know because i'm not a musician, but i would really like to hear them slow it down a bit.

i think they played 27 songs for the show and it didn't even hit the two hour mark.

additionally, the sound quality sucks on the bootlegs again. not quite as bad as 2008, but what happened to the quality of 2006? the boots sounded great that year, and the years before.

they've been playing the songs faster and faster each tour. it's getting frustrating.

Of the ones I have...which is almost most of them, I think LA 4 and San Diego are GREAT.

i'm loving the acl bootleg alot lately.
  • I have Seattle1, LA2, Vancouver, and ACL. I agree that the band is loose in vancouver but it is still a really fun show! who cares if every lyric isn't perfect, etc., it's a rock and roll show, and thats why I love PJ for putting it all out there every time on these boots, we get it all. So--

I love Sea1. I have listened to that at least 10 times and I still want to go back to that one. ACL is awesome for the mountain song alone for me. Overall it is a high energy rockin show and very fun. The sound on LA is very good and clear IMO. San Diego will be next for me I think. But will check out that Rotterdam too. Just downloaded mobile bootleg app for blackberry seems great.

I agree about ACL. I went to the show too, and I was surprised on how great the boot sounds. :D What a FUN show...
