Backspacer still floating your boat?

Still LOVE it although it's not my favorite PJ album... The back-to-back combo of Speed Of Sound and Force Of Nature is EXTREMELY UNDERRATED though.0

Still love this album. Listen to it almost daily.0

Still loving this cd...
I feel like there are generally, 2 types of PJ songs. The rocking songs and the slower, what I call Zen/Be Here Now songs.
This album has both--Force of Nature, The Fixer awesome rocking songs. Just Breathe, Unthought Known(one of my favorite songs ever!) and the End are the slower more thoughtful songs.
I am loving that the band can still do both kinds of songs so damn well. Which is why they remain one of the best bands ever--versatility.0 -
Yep, still love it...like all of their other albums. Pearl Jam's music just doesn't get old to me. That's why I love them.1991-11-30 St. Paul, MN 1992-08-28 St. Paul, MN 1998-06-30 Minneapolis, MN 2000-10-08 East Troy, WI 2003-06-16 St. Paul, MN 2006-06-26 St. Paul, MN 2006-06-27 St. Paul, MN 2006-07-07 San Diego, CA 2007-08-05 Chicago, IL 2008-06-24 New York, NY 2009-08-23 Chicago, IL 2009-08-24 Chicago, IL 2011-07-02 EV Minneapolis, MN 2011-09-03 PJ20 East Troy, WI 2011-09-04 PJ20 East Troy, WI 2013-07-19 Wrigley Chicago, IL 2014-10-19 St. Paul, MN0

I LOOOOOOOOVE Backspacer.... still listening to it a lot
Makes me ache, makes me shake...
...is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?0 -
Sure it is. I don't even need any oars to move!So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream
Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me0 -
Yeah, it's still doing it for me. Upon first listen I loved just about every song, but I've gotten pretty tired of a few of them. Lately "The Fixer" has been my favorite, because when it came out I didn't listen to it that much because I had listened to it so many times when it was made available prior to the albums release. So by the time I got my hands on the album I usually skipped over it because all of the rest of the songs were new to me. Now I've listened to the others so much that I've gone back to listening to it.
I originally bought the digipack version in the store when it came out, didn't buy it through 10C, but I just purchased the hardbound version they have available here and I'll probably give the other copy I have to my brother or somebody else who doesn't have it. Spread the love."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
I love it. Backspacer is my favorite album since Yield.
P.S. what you wrote was so deep and creative..........I didn't know people actually talk like that? I still don't know if you liked it or not? What were you talking about the Backspacer album?0 -
I guess over the years I've gotten old and cynical, so when I first heard Backspacer it was a bit jarring - its so positive and upbeat in places. I was just trying to convey how it had won me over.
Like most 10c fans, Backspacer has been assimilated into my everyday life and it went on to become my soundtrack to 2010. Just Breathe was the first dance at my wedding that year and also the song that got me picking up my guitar again (even though my attempts at finger picking remain rather embarrassing). My wife would suddenly, unexpectedly (and rather cutely) start singing "I'm gonna be your friend, gonna be your friend, make you go away". Hearing Unthought Known in Berlin - wonderful memories. A truly great album.
So I like it, yeah.Nature drunk and High0 -

Backspacer is a great LP
Love it
Kind of short for my taste, could of used a few more tracks on it....0 -
You have good taste in music Uncle. Set sail for the high sea! That is cool that you are incorporating BS in your life. When BS was released and did their West Coast tour I went to LA (from Vegas) to see them and reunite with an old friend I hadn't seen in a long while so for the couple of months leading up to the trip I kept singing "gonna see my friend, gonna see my friend" and it really meant something to me.0

Backspacer is a classic brother......good for you

So its been a while, how them boats doing?Nature drunk and High0

Still floating! It's like no other PJ album, which is one of the things I love about it. Loved it since day one and still find it a fantastic, positive, upbeat listen. Until "The End" of course, which is the saddest of all PJ songs. But I love that too, fits that traditional PJ end-of-album vibe.
A few songs are under-represented live ("Gonna See My Friend" especially), but then you could say that about certain songs from every album..."I know I was born and I know that I'll die...the in between is mine"0 -
A little ridiculous backstory that nobody will read: I started losing that loving feeling around Binaural - 2000 was a pretty dark time for the music I was diggin'. My tastes were changing and music in general seemed to be falling out of favor for me. I didn't care about going to concerts anymore (I used to go to two or three a week), and I was more focused on books and writing and getting out of college in one piece and as fast as possible. Binaural felt like a blip on my radar. It was just...there.
Binaural influenced the way I treated Riot Act. I owned it, but wasn't listening to it too much. I even passed on seeing Pearl Jam play Alpine Valley in 2003 just because I thought they'd play more Binaural and Riot Act, which I wasn't really digging at the time. Shame on me, really...
I appreciate Binaural and Riot Act WAAAYYYY more today than I did then. Riot Act really is an amazing record.
Avocado got me back on the trolley in a HUGE way. Most of the songs on Avocado really resonated with me (still do, in fact). Inside Job and Gone really mean a lot to me. I thought it was a true return to greatness (when it came out, I still wasn't really listening to Binaural or Riot Act). Then that summer I got to see Pearl Jam open for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in Milwaukee. Quite possibly the best concert I've ever been to. Ever. Am still kicking myself for only going on the first night and forgoing the second night... Oh well. Since that concert, I moved to AZ and had been jonesing to see PJ live again (and again and again)...
...then Backspacer started to happen. I devoured EVERYTHING I could find related to Pearl Jam. When they performed "Got Some" on Conan's first Tonight Show broadcast, I recorded it and must have replayed it two dozen times. I listened to "The Fixer" about five times a day driving to and from work until Backspacer came out. I had Backspacer in my car and on my CPU going all the time. If it were possible to wear out a CD, I think I could have with Backspacer. Really wish it had more songs, but it's quite awesome. The first three tracks are pearls, man. And Just Breathe even got my wife digging on the band a little (she's more a top 40 fan). Amongst the Waves has become my favorite track. I'll put it on when I go biking along the desert trails... just incredible. Pearl Jam hasn't come back to play Phoenix since 2003...and I would have loved to have caught them somewhere on the West Coast during their 2009 Backspacer tour, but the opportunity never came up. Just caught them in Vancouver a few weeks ago while on business - such an amazing show!
Back to Backspacer... funny thing is - the CD is STILL in my car and I put it on from time to time. What's really cool is listening to my daughters sing along to it.
(this sounds like more of a love letter to Avocado - but that ain't still spinning in my car
)

Yep! Boat afloat!
I would wager a Backspacer tune features in every set for the next 10 years, they seem to be pretty proud of the album still -- and they should be![sic] happens0
