Secondly, anyone who thinks that A-Rod is a "plague" or call him "A-Fraud", can go back to the hole they crawled out of in 2004. A-Rod has been nothing but a stand-up gentleman since he came into baseball. Any team would have loved to have him, sure he's expensive, but he's worth it.. don't feed me crap about no rings either, it takes more than 1 guy to win a WS. The reason for the negaitive A-Rod press is because of his Agent Scott Boras, who also represents a number of Red Sox players.
Oh, and why 2004? Because like someone said, 60% of "Red Sox Nation" didn't even exist until 2004. From the 1900's until 2004 the fans in Boston considered the team gods gift to losers. Since 2004 the Red Sox have become the nations #1 bandwagon team. It's bigger sob story than if Dorothy never found her way home from Oz (at least not for 86 years).
And before I end this tirade, I will mention this passed MLB season. Sure the Red Sox won the WS. Nice, congratulations to the players. Remember though, Colorado had 8 days off, that's like trying to come out of a coma to a baseball player. Finally, also remember that the Yankees were 17 1/2 games back around the mid-season mark, and only ended up losing the division by 2 games. This was done with the most ever rookie starters for one team during a season.
And I quote 86 years of Red Sox grief.. "See you next year".
Peace.
First, keep the logo up. It looks great and PJ and the Sox go together like Vanilla Ice Cream and Apple Pie.
Second, A-Fraud a "Stand Up Gentlemen"????????????????????????????????? Are we talking about the same guy who:
-Cheated on his wife
-Slapped the ball out of the pitchers glove in the 2004 ALCS
-Yelled while rounding the bases at a player trying to field a pop up
-Going after a pitcher half his size and then getting his but kicked by Jason Varitek
-Said in Sports Illustrated that his team-mates are jealous of him because he is rich and good-looking
-Announcing during the last game of the World Series that he was becoming a free agent
And that's just the stuff since he joined the Yankees. A-Fraud probably will end up getting a ring in spite of himself, but it always is and always will be all about A-Rod.
Third, the Sox have always been the #1 draw for fans in Boston (even with the Patriots and Celtics success), so don't give me that crap about 2004 and 60% of the fans jumping on the band-wagon.
Last but not least, congrats on closing the gap and ALMOST winning the division. Lovely parting gift for that one.
That being said, baseball would never be this fun without the rivalry with Yankees! Peace back...0 -
Ugh. I hate the Red Sox. I'm a Detroit Tigers fan, and I can attest that there are no fans more annoying than Red Sox fans. Yankees fans can at times be arrogant but they've got the right to do so. 26 World Championship can give you the right to brag. But they're decent fans. Sox fans whine and bitch for 86 years about being cursed. Then they finally win and you know what they do? Whine and bitch about the 86 years they DIDN'T win. Its amazing. They think the baseball world revolves around them, and their arrogance far exceeds the Yankees. I hope the baseball gods piss all over the Sox next year.
And for the record, I don't mind charity work done between Theo and the Jam, but I don' want Pearl Jam to be associated with the Red Sox as far as even playing at Fenway.0 -

Congrats on toughing it out, and battling all the way back to 2nd place. Good job.0 -
i love this thread as you can probably guess from my screen name, and i must say i love all the sox bashing going on. its about damn time that the sox would get bashed and be the subject of jealously. winning has been a long time coming. i agree with what some have said about the sox fan base being annoying. its different being a sox fan now and has been since oct. 2004. "pink hats" are the bandwagon jumpers who got on board after the sox came back from 3-0 to the yanks in the alcs. and i fucking cant stand them. back in the day, when you walked around and saw someone with a sox hat on you knew they were a real dedicated fan. now it is completley different and the sox "b" has become a fashion statement. to see real fans like me who have been since birth get lumped in with these "pink hats" sucks, but i guess thats what happens when you win 2 WS titles in 4 years. it meant a lot more to be a sox fan back in the day too because they have become a little like the yanks, but the yanks still spend much more money and do so very poorly. kevin brown. carl pavano. randy johnson. i could go on and on. i could debate this topic forever so i look forward to responses....peace0

you know why the rockies had 8 days off.because the national league sucks!!!the colorado rockies swept two teams people.that's how bad the league is.and that's why they lost.jv and varsity.
of course the 8 days off was nothing compared to the 4 months off the yankees got.jeter drinks wine coolers0 -

Nobody else really cares about these teams except a few million confined northeasterners and a new england based ESPN... yet the rest of the country has to be force feed their shit.
All aside, congrats to Theo for the good cause.
Seconded. Go Cards."WE'RE UH, WE'RE GONNA DO THIS ONE WHICH IS UH, CERTAINLY NOT A USUAL ONE, AND THEN UH, JUST TAKE A FEW MORE MINUTES, THEN UH, AND THEN WE'RE GONNA DO OUR BEST TO KEEP TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS AWAKE FR..." (cheering at intro)...

A-Rod got photographed going up to his hotel room with a stripper(who
wasn't his wife), who he picked up at the club she was hustling, earlier this season. His wife has 250 million reasons to look
the other way, though. Way to go big guy. Remember Alex, Herpes is forever. Use the infield fly rule and make sure she
waves you home before you slide in there. Also, strippers don't have change for a million, so bring smaller bills. Alex, you
deserve your face on a piece of currency. It would have to be really valuable in the summer, and then lose all of it's
value for the month of October, though. But the currency is really good looking, so no one will really notice.
Seattle has decent strippers too Alex, you didn't have to leave.
Any takers he's going to be on the list of players who have
tested positive for banned substances?

Wow, talk about resurrecting a thread.. I guess I've seen worse. I don't really like getting into forum wars, because yeah, they are retarded. I will say one thing though. If A-Rod went to Boston, which was a very strong possibility, all of the Red Sox fan boys would be ripping on the Yankee fans for losing A-Rod, instead we get ripped for keeping him.
Whatever.
I highly doubt he will ever test positive for banned substances. He's been the same size since before his rookie season. Unlike Barry Bonds who came in looking like Gilligan and left looking like he ate the Skipper. See Jose Canseco, Mark Maguire, and many others. Come to think of it.. I hardly ever remember David Ortiz being a "big guy" in Minnesota. Same goes for Manny. Of course, that's just Manny being Manny.
Fin.
EDIT: Thank you for taking down that picture.Abraham Lincoln once said, "If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North."0 -

this is where i have to chime in. I dont even consider the American league "baseball". a baseball game is played by 9 "baseball players" on each side. the american league games consist of 8. A baseball player must be able to play both offense and defense! theyve got 8 players and 2 semi-players. I cant stand it. Pitchers should learn to hit, and all hitters should be able to play defense.
National league is where its at. actual strategies coming into play..stealing, bunting, moving runners over, etc..i find AL games boring.
Oh yah...GO Braves!West Palm Beach I, WPB II, Tampa, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville 2000

wow it seems like 60% of the people on this message board are snot nosed whiny bitches who are never happy unless they are bashing people with messages. I've been a Red Sox fan my whole life. My grandfather got me into watching the sox. He was born in 1920 and died in 2002 and not once did I ever hear him complain about the red sox consistanly losing. They had their chances to win it all throughout the years. I'm not 100% sure but i think they made it to the WS in 1946, 1967, 1975, and i remember the 1986 series against the mets. I was only five and I was heartbroken to see my team lose. It wasnt just the fact that they lost, it was about how they lost so dramtically it seemed every time. The yankees may have one 26 championships but one thing will never change the fact that Boston won the very first WS in 1903 and they won the last one. They seem to be the team of the new millenium. It just goes to show you how much the new ownership of the Red Sox knows more about baseball than the Steinbrenners who just buy the best players and pray that it works out. I give them credit it worked for a while. It is painful to see all of the bandwagon jumpers as well, I see it first hand almost every year when the Red Sox make it to the playoffs. My mom starts to get into the sox and she cant even name 3 of the players on the team, its very iritating. But to be completly honest with everyone if the Tampa Bay rays started winning there will be bandwagon jumpers goin to that team aswell. As for the red sox logo being on pearl jams website. Why would anybody really care its up there for a good reason, right??? Hell if you all remember the Sox almost landed AROD in 2004 but the MLBPA wouldnt let AROD restructure his contract. The Sox seem to mesh together pretty good without him. Now only if they could finds a good shortstop, haha theyve had 5 different players at that position in the last year. ok well i have seemed to got off topic. peace out everyone0

I hate the Goddamn Fucking Boston Red Sox.0

I saw a picture of Eddie wearing a Sox jersey. What the fuck man? First he's a White Sox fan, then a Cubs fan, now a Red Sox fan?
As a proud Detroit Tigers fan, I can say I'm sad at Eddie's choices for teams.0
