The second encore set-list doesn't look too impressive on paper, but it was amazing. The energy level for Evolution and Not For You were incredible and the crowd was still going strong. Then the Modern Girl tag slowed it down into an incredible version of Black. The ending was just so beautiful. End was really into the moment and sang something low, but I couldn't make it out so I'll have to wait for the boot.

The bit you couldn't make out was: "It's all over now Baby Blue"

Thank you 10C for 7th row center!
Great to hear so many songs from the new album.
The acoustic with Corin and then solo was such a treat!!! And Modern Girl tag transcendent...

Can't remember what song it was intro to, but Ed turns toward Mike and addresses the audience, says something like: If I were a guitar, I would feel very safe in the hands of Mike McCready,
and then as an afterthought: until at the end when he'd destroy the shit out of me

Does Eddie always change the In Hiding lyrics like he did this night? Just heard the "I'll be honest, I was high as hell.." part and I'm hearing him sing "I swallow my shrooms to keep from dying...."

Is this typical of In Hiding live?

replacing "i was upside down" with "i was high as hell" is a common, but not every time, occurance.
i have not heard the "swallow my shrooms" replacement.
    funny!

This show was just so fantastic with such very special moments!

However, the section of fans around us were mostly drunk as hell and were falling all over each other (and me) yelling "EDDDD-IE" over and over and at one point were all spilly beers and holding each other's hands while singing "Off He Goes" off key (these were guys) to one another.

I realize Ed likes to have a beer when he's at a concert, but there's a difference between A beer and 15 beers. If you want to drink at a show, please remember there are those around you who do not appreciate your enthusiasm for the brew when they are trying to enjoy a show for which they have paid a lot of $$$.

That was a hell of a great show that was kinda ruined by being hit in the head by drinkers and drunk singing (which can be amusing, but not this time). It was certainly interesting to say the least. Try to give a crap about your fellow fans, you beer guzzlers...

    Thank goodness for the bootleg!!

Well, I know I am pretty late to this topic, but I need to... to... say something nevertheless!

I came all the way from Brazil, with a quick stopover in a another US city to check the U2 gig 2 days before this PJ concert in Portland. (on a sider note, I just need to state for the record that Bono has a lot to learn with Eddie on the amazing art of being amazing... lol!)

Good concerts happen so rarely where I live that it really gets me into a super-effort state when I hear THE CALL to come back to this incredile rock/n/roll life you guys in the US have a chance to feel and live so often you - no offense - you end up a little too hard on little things, I guess.
    =]

You guys probably don't need THE CALL (lol!) because you have so many great gigs and shows and art performances to check you might even feel you can let some go without even notice, right?
Well, I heard THE CALL again ever since I've heard The Fixer for the first time... and just got time to log into ticketmaster (I wasn't a 10c member yet) and these were the first tickets I got a chance to buy online, so I never spent one second thinking and just got'em right away... Portland, Vancouver, Ridgefield, Clark County? I mean... where should I go to see this? Many travel agencies around here just got a "don't even know if a plane gets there" reply! lol!!

But, hey, things are so easy in the US today for someone with the will to get somewhere, that I didn't have trouble booking several planes to get there and finding a nice hotel.

EVERYTHING, since the arrival at te bus stop in some mall in Vancouver (Salmon Creek something), to the time I finally got back home tuesday (the gig was saturday, I flew from Portland to NYC on sunday and back to South America on monday), is just "tattooed black" in me... FOREVER!
    :-)

I can't help but envy (in a nice way, please understand) folks that have been fortunate enough to feel this for 30 times, or even, say, once a year... If only I had time and money enough I am pretty sure I would give up most of the things I love about my regular life just to get some more of this... I stood in a line for the bus back to Salmon Creek and just got the last one in a horrible cold and, guess what? I was floating!!! Nothing got me in a less than perfect mood, not even the many hours (days, actually) seated in a plane or airport to get back home.

These guys are something different, specially Ed and this... monster, god or whatever you call... Mike. They had this strange ability to, in 2 hours, set my life back straight, wake up in me an imense love feeling and an incredible admiration for the people that so gracefully share moments and energy like we had on that night.

For that, I thank both the band and YOU, yes, YOU my american friend that was a part of that magic with me. I am sure, by reading these reviews, you also know and felt it was an incredible and special energy we shared and lived together. All I can real say besides thanks is to never let this flame down, you guys can maybe even light our lives very far away... this is the extraordinary about the rock vibe, it does can change things and make this world a little better!

About the concert... nothing much to add... special moments in In Hiding, Red Mosquito and to me in UNthought Known... I am not ashamed at all to confess I cried from the first verse to last. I felt like I was the most fortunate man ever at that time and it put me into tears just to remember it now...
Again, I have to say the band did a great part on the emotion and atmosphere, but WE all watching and singing and crying and jumping created the magic together... I appreciate it SO MUCH!

Off He Goes is a masterpiece too and the guitar solo on Even Flow is something else... My whole effort would have been worth with just these two pieces, so what else could a simple guy need?
Oh yeah, he'd need Present Tense too... and the band provided it!! This should be sung by every man, woman and child right after waking up for another day!

On the other hand, it got me thinking... they didn't play Alive, Corduroy and Small Town, three songs I always consider would be in the set for sure... Can anyone imagine a Guns'n'Roses gig without Sweet Child O'Mine, a Rolling Stones gig without "Simpathy for the Devil", an Iron Maiden concert without "The Number of The Beast" and so?

This has to be mentioned: I can't think of any other great band able to play a concert without their three most known and sucessfull songs and still KICKS ASS and make it so STRONG for everyone!!! I mean... all the yelling, the singing, the dancing... one could FEEL the Earth was shaking right there!!

My fiancee and I made a pact a while ago: we have to follow this band untill we both listened to Wishlist, Rearviewmirror, Red Mosquito, In Hiding, Off He Goes, I am Mine and Rockin in the Free World. I guess there was someone listening close to us, because we had the really tough ones (Red Mosquito, In Hiding and Off He Goes) all at once!! (We were also both fortunate enough to have listened to Wishlist, I am Mine and Rockin in Toronto some time ago in another great effort counting many miles on our frequent flyers accounts, so if there's anyone listening now, can we please have Rearviewmirror someday? =] )

All in all, here's to the "last lifetime saved" I got and you all gave me on that special night! For once, it was an inside job... and I lived like there was no tomorrow... like it should be everyday, right?
    ;)

  • I was on the lawn too. It wasn't that crowded, but it was pretty cold. Yeah, they should change the location name to Washington cause it was sure not Portland.

I did not notice any problems with the volume as a previous poster mentioned, but a big thumbs down for the local noise ordinance which killed the buzz by limiting the amount of time the band was on stage. If it was not for this I'm sure they would have played longer.

Also, anyone know why the projector screens were turned to Black and White instead of color? They were working in full color for Ben Harper, but when the band started someone switched them to Black and White. What gives with that?
