they had glow sticks at PJs show. they have them for all the headliners i think. i dont know if Kanye had some spedcial glowstick thing as well.
I know absolutely nothing about Bonnaroo. I just know Kanye had a whole glow in the dark thing he wanted to do, and that's how he weasled his way into the final spot.
they have glow stick wars where everyone throws bags of them around whenthe headliner starts. its pretty cool.
Kanye had his glow in the dark set pieces that needed to be put in place, but thats not really why he was so delayed. i went back to the tent, but i've heard a million reasons for what took so long. not sure. i read somewhere that he was still in Atlanta during the PJ show.
I'm not sure they wanted Eddie to say anything, i think he was just making a joke about taking pills before the Kanye show so the effects would kick in. or something. it was hard to make out.
But the guy who thinks Binaural, Riot Act and the Avocado are lesser pieces of art than Kanye's 2 big albums, you've got to be kidding, seriously have to be kidding. Some of us love those albums. I happen to think Riot Act is brilliant. It didn't sell 10 million copies so it sucks right? I really don't get it man. I also think me and people of similar opinions will be singing our heart out to I Am Mine long after Kanye has faded away. Those PJ albums (all really) mean something to people, people like me, what the fuck does Kanye's music mean to you? Did it change your life, doubtful, it's just popular crap. Really thought the people who gave up on PJ after Binaural wouldn't bother to even be on this forum. Go back and listen to the PJ albums you crapped on like 5 times each and tell me again why they suck, seriously. I don't get people like you dude. Fine there not what YOU think a PJ album should be, but there not as good as Kanye West? You're nuts man.
Kanye's an asshole for sure, and I loved being at Bonnaroo and seeing "Kanye's an asshole" written like EVERYWHERE!
Oh, if I knew where it was, I would take you there, but there's much more than this.
Ooooh. Whoooa, much more than this. Woooh see the world. Much more than... Oooh, much more than.. Why?
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I heard a rumor that Kayne and Norm were the SAME person!!!!!!!
then i should really be kicking my own ass for being an asshole
the best answer of 2009!!!!!!!!

my personal prediction is that in 10yrs very few of us will remember that Kanye West ever existed. I guess we'll see.
Pfft. Have you ever listened to his albums? This statement is the same as someone in 1992 who'd only heard Even Flow saying we'll never hear of PJ again.
Also, whoever compared Kanye to Puff Daddy...good grief thats off the mark, and it just shows theyve only ever heard singles by either bloke. Sure Kanye has some poppy stuff, but The College Dropout & Late Registration are fantastic albums. Classic stuff.
Eminem ...like southpark on acid set to music - thats a classic description!
I used to shit on Kanye too, then I listenened to his music. I would be willing to bet 90% of the people here who hate him never gave him a chance, or don't even listen to rap.
"It seems, we livin the American Dream
The people highest up got the lowest self-esteem.
The prettiest people do the ugliest things,
For the roads to riches and diamond rings."
"Fuck the police that's how I treat 'em
We buy our way outta jail but we can't buy freedom
We buy a lot of clothes but we don't really need 'em,
Things we buy to cover up whats inside
Cause they made us hate ourselves
And love their wealth"
If you think your 2 year-old could write that, you're crazy. I won't even get into how talented he is in the studio and with sampling, because all the people here don't even consider that an art form and think anyone can do it. Go ahead, try it sometime. Buy a drum machine, and see if you can pull half the shit he does.
those seem pretty simple to me and seems like they have been written somewhere before.
Genius, brilliant etc. seem to get thrown towards rappers a littl too much to me. Even a lot more than people who actually write, play and sing their own stuff. It's like people are constantly trying to validate it more than any other form of music.
I get it. You can rhyme over some beat, brilliant!

I don't listen to much rap, but I was going to give Kanye a chance at Bonnaroo. Then he delayed his set by hours, instantly turning off thousands of potential fans. He doesn't respect his audience or other artists, it's all about how great (he thinks) he is.

You prove my point exactly. You don't consider sampling and using a drum machine a real art, and that's ok. Different tastes I guess. Kanye produces all of his own stuff (if that counts for anything to you).
And for your comment about "rhyming over a beat" ....shows you really don't appreciate this kind of music at all. Which makes me wonder why you are commenting on this thread in the first place.

There's not much I can argue with there. He's an asshole, no question. I'm talking about his music, but no one here really seems to want to talk about that. (No one who has listened to his music, anyway)
And before his first step... He's off again...

Is Kanye West is an asshole? Yes.
Does he make good music? Yes.
I don't really understand how those two can't go hand in hand. He's probably the most talented rapper of the decade (I'd argue Jay-Z, though). But he's still an asshole.
The "W. doesn't care about black people", Taylor Swift (who is a talentless hack, but still), and Bonnaroo incidents all prove what a tool he is.
i'll tell ya thou. if i liked somebody's music and later on they turned into an asshole i wouldn''t like his/hers music as much anymore.
but that's just me....
*~Pearl Jam will be blasted from speakers until morale improves~*
all ed said at bonnaroo was that if you were gonna be taking shrooms and you really wanted to peak during kanye's set you should take them now. He didn't say it all but that's what he was going for since it was a glow in the dark show. I don't think that you should be stating he's an asshole based on his music (which i think is highly overrated) but for the fact that he shows no respect to anyone and is an egomaniac of the likes we haven't seen since axl rose.
He knows his music is artificial, and he wants to be elvis, and people don't care about black people, and he wears designer clothes, and he jumps cameramen, and jumps on stage when a teenage girl is winning a meaningless award, and his time of relevence is soon over. God what an asshole, his music is shit, and it ain't hip hop in any sense. Hip Hop for yuppies maybe.

He's an asshole, and total rubbish as a live performer besides. I won't comment in detail on his studio stuff, but "she ain't messing with no broke niggaz" is not exactly lyrical genius.

He was super humble and genuine both times.
Doesn't match up with the public persona at all.

Don't do this to Riot Act! It gets sad! And it is the greatest record produced this side of the millenium.
I don't listen to Hip Hop but maybe Kanyes first two albums are pure gold. I think I would dig stuff like Jedi Mindtrick more than Kanye though.

i tried to listen to him at bonnaroo......
just saying
It's like talking to a wall... I give up.
ok...you're right. Kanye Rules! I see the light now

Try to be less of a tool. I doubt you would say something that stupid in person.
ok. i give up. it's like talking to a wall..
better?
hehe
Does Kanye West like Fish Sticks??????
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

That's going pretty far... personally I think he is a great producer and he makes descent/entertaining music. But he's definitly not a good rapper.
Let me also say that I'm not a huge fan of rap in general and need to be in a certain mood to listen to it and enjoy it...
I would say my favorite rappers are Mos Def, Aesop Rock & MF Doom... I think that each one of those rappers are more talented than Kanye West.

Um, yeah ... I know musical taste is subjective and all the usual caveats, but damn. soulsinging, are you the giant fish in that South Park shot?
