that gold digger song was a hoot, there's no denying that took a genius to write those lyrics.

Ed couldn't write those lyrics in a 1000 years. Not saying Kanye is better, just saying that's a great fucking song and it's pretty damn clever lyrically.

i've always wondered about the annoucement that Ed talked about near the end of the bonnarroo set. he said the bonnaroo people had an annoucement for him ed to read, then he said he was going to let kayne make it.

kind of a dick move on ed's part. it's one thing to let your set run long because you're rocking out, another to then shaft the next performer because you're too cool to acknowledge whoever is playing after you.
they tried to cut short PJs set with that bullshit. fuck that, THEY ARE THE HEADLINER. Glad they played all night.

the 'announcement' was something about acid trips or something anyway. it was a joke.

The annoucement was supposed to be about the glowsticks that Kanye's folks passed out to the crowd. It was supposed to be part of his glow-in-the-dark show, which is the reason he wanted to go on last, after dark.

Since 2000, Kanye has made 2 fucking brilliant albums. Pearl Jam, zero.

Are you sniffing glue or what? I'm going to go ahead and move that this statement you made "Since 2000, Kanye has made 2 fucking brilliant albums. Pearl Jam, zero" be moved to the top of the list of most stupid posts on this board EVER. Quite the accomplishment.

    WE WANT PRE-NUP!, yeah

    18 years, 18 years
And on her 18th birthday, he found out it wasn't his?"

Ed could never write something that funny and true. I'm definitely not joking. Kanye is an asshat, but it doesn't change the fact that he has made some mind-blowing albums. Just like Axl Rose being a douche doesn't make Appetite any less kick ass or Liam being a twat makes the first 2 Oasis albums stone classics.

    where to even begin here.....

first, rap is supposed to rhyme. years and his are not, in fact, anything close to rhyming words. nor do have and half rhyme. i could come up with some crazy shit too, if i broke the one fundamental rule of lyric writing within the genre.

second, i would say somebody like eminem is a clever and talented lyricist. but kanye? no. my six year old, given enough schooling about life in the ghetto, could write this stuff.

third, oasis really, really sucks. this is the second or third time i've heard somebody refer to them as great musicians. they are wannabe beatles, like a watered down cover band trying to write original songs to sound like the band they cover. just a horrible, horrible band. and yes, complete douche nozzles. on that we agree. so let's leave it there.

College Dropout and Graduation are better than Riot Act and Avocado (and probably Binaural if I weren't so sentimentally attached to it)... BS certainly tops Kanye's last shitty album (808s and Heartbreak) though.

How can you even make a statment like that? I mean, seriously how can you compare a rock band to a rap artist? Take the fact that I think Kanye is a no talent assclown when it comes to rap artists aside, your logic is like saying "Nirvana - Nevermind is not as good as Wu Tang - 36 Chambers" You can't make that comparison because they're not even in the same genre for christ sake. If you want to debate whether Kanye has any talent or not, fine, but comparing him to a rock group and saying he is "better" is just ignorant.

I posted the gay fish picture because he likes fish dicks but you guys are actually discussing his music. You think they discuss Lil Wayne on the main page of the Metallica.com message board?

you're right, it's like poetry. if it doesn't rhyme, or uses slant rhyme, it's shit. i'll tell walt whitman you dismissed his entire body of work.

eminem is incredible as well. but methinks you havent heard a fair portion of kanye's work. kanye never claimed to be from ghetto like eminem or 2pac or any other hard knock rappers. that doesn't mean he can't rap and the fact that you think it does is ridiculous. stone grew up in the burbs, does it mean he can't rock? and yes, kanye an ego. but he also has a lot of insecurity (which he acknowledges), insight, admirable ambition, and even occasional self loathing, if you listen. the guy knows he's something of a head case. but he's not really the first head case to produce incredible art.

where did i refer to oasis as great musicians? i said they made 2 classic albums. you don't have to be an amazing musician to make a classic album. by all accounts, the beatles themselves were only decent musicians, aside from maybe paul. didn't stop them from making more classic albums than any other band ever. oasis' first 2 albums are fantastic. sure, they're douchebags, but so what? since it's conspicuously absent from your response... what do you think of guns n roses?

The Slim Shady LP for instance. It's not even just a great rap album. It's truly a great work of fiction. If Stephen King is celebrated as a genius for the crazy shit he writes, then Slim Shady should get his due as well. It's like South Park on mushrooms set to music.

that's bullshit. think of led zeppelin... are their last 2-3 albums mentioned on anywhere near the same plane as their first 5-6? of course not. and pj is the same. they had an unbelievable run that rivaled that of any band in the history of rock for those first 5-6 albums... but the last 2-3 were mediocre (pre-BS). that is no bad mark against them... and they seem to be making a solid comeback, which makes their catalogue even more impressive.

but that doesnt change the fact that, yes, they did make a few weak albums. so what? whose catalogue is perfect?

and beyond that, there are a helluva lot more than 10 classic rap albums. i suggest you explore the genre before you dismiss the whole thing like i did up until 3-4 years ago. i even made a thread about how fucking lame wu-tang was for all of them having ridiculous nicknames... jesus was i off the mark. listen before you judge.

yes! you know dave was baked out of his mind when he dreamed that one up.

i loved his show on cable, but I went to see him live and it was the biggest disappointment ever of any live show, comedy, music, whatever that i've ever paid to see. he was so drunk and stoned that he could barely speak. i still think he's a comedy genius, but I want my $40 back.

puffy shouldnt be in the same sentence as kanye, and the fact that this poster compares them shows his total lack of knowledge about hip hop.

though i agree, kanye is in serious danger of going the axl rose route... he's become almost a joke, his writing is slipping, and he's behaving like a jackass everywhere he goes. that doesn't diminish his past work though, or prevent me from hoping he will once again reach those pinnacles.
