My wife and I always balance things out one way or the other. If I go to Alpine for a weekend I give her a weekend of her own. That eliminates the guilt and envy.

    this

i take trips all the time without the woman...and she goes to NY with out me. works out for both of us since she dislikes pj and i dislike ny.

IMO, it's good to get away from each other a little bit.

I have a chance to go to wrigley. I probably have enough airline miles to get me to Chicago free. The hotel room is booked and paid for. If I go, I will feel a little guilty taking off on my family, even though it would only be a couple of days. Also, we used our last batch of airline miles for me to fly to Tulsa last fall to see eddie solo. It's kinda time for hubby to do something for himself. The problem is that he won't. If I go there will be very subtle and long lasting hints of guilt thrown in my direction. If I go I may not be able to see the number of shows that I'd like to see on the fall tour. Assuming there is a fall tour in the northeast. I haven't seen pj in almost 15 years. It's time but it has to be right. I don't need more stress and it shouldn't be this hard. Ugh.

a chance? do you want to go or not? if so then go and don't let anyone lay a guilt trip on you. if hubby wont do anything that's his issue. the only pressure youre feeling is the pressure youre putting on yourself. he should be happy that youre happy.

Yes to all of the above. It's definitely nice to do fun things without each other but it's more complicated for him to take off because of his work. I need to convince him to do something too. Part of me says it would be better to be the adult that I am and go somewhere as a family together for a long weekend and hold out for the fall tour. The other part says... I've been waiting so long and missed so many chances to see them when the kids were babes I don't want to wait longer. We know wrigley will be epic!

I hope i never become the adult that thinks family holidays are the path to sanity and a harmonious family life.

p.s. I just got back from a 5 week wander around the US(my 3rd in 18 months) and me and my family are better off for my little jaunts. ;)8-)
