HMV Backspacer poster deal.

Apologies if anyone has posted on this already ... if so please point me there. But ...

Any one remember this ...

"In addition to the 10c pre-sale, HMV, the UK music retailer, wants to give you another chance to purchase tickets ... If you pre-order 'Backspacer' from www.hmv.com by 12 noon (UK local time) on the 20th July, customers will be delivered a link to an exclusive 48 hour pre-sale (July 21-22) for tickets to the SBE show. Fans who pre-order the HMV version of 'Backspacer' will also receive a limited-edition poster (while supplies last). "

(http://www.pearljam.com/news/pearl-jam- ... ush-aug-11)

I got my Backspacer CD Saturday (one thing HMV CAN so is to send me an album before release date, something 10c have failed to do ... still waiting) but no poster. I emailed HMV (ah, the joys !) and got a reply today ...

"Our Warehouse and Head Office have investigated this and have advised that unfortunately, the pre-order offer with Pearl Jam - Back Spacer did not include a poster. This information has been confirmed by both the Head Office and the Warehouse."

So yet another cock up. We were already compromised by having to preorder the cd from HMV for a chance to get tickets through their presale - a presale that they monumentally cocked up for reasons too numerous to mention. That the carrot was dangled further with the promise of a poster that is now not forthcoming just rubs salt into the wound.

I've asked for them to contact 10c about this and I won't be fobbed off again.

What has anyone else's experience of this been ? Was anyone else expecting a poster ? Got one ? Contacted HMV ? 10c ? Be interesting to hear what people say.

Am off to mail 10 c about this now ...

I pre-ordered from HMV and no poster.

Apparently those that ordered from Townsend Records did get a poster (a blow up of a photo from a Hawaii gig) ... may be 10c got their pre-sales mixed up :?

  • I emailed HMV and received a reply on the 21st:

"We are sorry to hear that you did not receive a poster with your order for PEARL JAM: BACKSPACER: DELUXE EDITION CD.

We have notified the relevant department in order to have one sent to you. We will send this to you as soon as possible.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused."

.... I imagine that I'll be receiving a similar email to yours from the "relevant department"

yet go instore and guess what you get??
  • You're not going to tell us that they are giving the posters out over the counter at HMV are you?
  • What does "Cock Up" mean? is that a british thing? ....cause I like it.

I think if you type in "cock up" using the English (UK) setting on Windows, and then switch to English (US) it will translate to "fuck up".

What's "HMV" by the way? :|

  • I called them on Monday about this and was told they would get the poster sent to me asap, then yesterday I received an email from the saying there never was a poster. They said all you got for pre ordering was the booklet...er I think you get one of those in most cds.
Anyhow I called them back yesterday and was told it was being passed onto management for investigation as so many people have complained.

Also it wasn't 10C's cock up as the HMV website clearly stated that you would get the poster with pre orders.

I shall wait and see what happens.

  • HMV is rubbish, still haven't received the CD. Its not 10 clubs fault, its nothing to do with them. Townsend Records were great. Got CD Vinyl and poster on Saturday. Buy from them next time.

They got me the wrong version (regular instead of limited). I e-mailed them about it. I was wondering if this happened to anybody else.

I was wondering what the regular looked like vs the limited. I ordered the limited but am not sure if what I received is it :P

Well it's not a gatefold sleeve. It doesn't have the see through "window" so that you can see the brain on the inner CD sleeve.
If the catalogue number ends with "6" it's the regular one if it's a 7 it's the limited.

I was just thinking the same, I assume I got the limited but don't know for sure as I don't know what the other one looks like.

Ah ok. Think I may have the right one then. Don't have it with me to check the catalogue number.

Hopefully they get the right one out to you quick sharpish ;)

I wonder how limited the limited edition really is :? Would think most people will have ordered it as it's the same price as the regular version and it's still available.

What e-mail address did you use to contact them? I've had a look through their website but can only find specific e-mail addresses for digital downloads and store related issues.
I recieved my 'Backspacer Deluxe Edition Special Packaging' from HMV yesterday - but from what I can tell it's no different to the regualr version on sale everywhere else. Not impressed.

I think the difference is simply one is the gatefold windowed limited version and the regular is the slip case with no hole in the front. Its quite easy to see the difference when you have them both in hand

Ah, ok - thanks. Looks like I do actually have the 'deluxe' version then. Oh and apologies for not actually bothering to read the whole thread properly before asking that question!

Ooh - I was just browsing the 'HMV Pure' (rewards/loyalty card) section of their site, looking for stuff to spend my points on. I did a search for 'Pearl Jam' just on the off-chance that they'd have something interesting to give away now that Backspacer's out.....and waddya know: http://pure.hmv.com/Exclusive-Product/P ... m091000899
