New Wishlist Street Team Special Ops Order:PJ needs yer help

  • They released the record themselves

This is unrelated to the street team thing but I was wondering if this is really the case? It seems as though going through Target and independent record stores wouldn't be considered releasing it themselves would it? Recording it, packaging it and shipping it through your website exclusively would be releasing it themselves. They are being backed by a major retailer and I read an article with stone in the past few weeks where he made it very clear they were paid exceptionally well by Target for this release (and paid up front I believe?) Going back to the street team thing, it's not like they are some little band with no funds who can't afford a proper marketing push.

I think it is all well and good they have very passionate fans but going into stores and trying to push them into either moving cd's to an endcap or bringing out more from the back is not something fans should be asked or expected to do. If you want to, as is the case of the Wishlist Street team, so be it.

I take it that you have never been involved in a band's street team. before. This is not an unusual request from them at all.

Like I said before, the street team is organized and can get out today. Hiring someone to do it would take much more time. This is not something that ANY other street team would be asked to do.

LOL. So you want us to march to our local Target's and tell the electronics manager how to merchandise their department? Then you want us to take pictures of it? And if they aren't displayed yet, you want us to go back multiple times until they are? It reminds me of Dwight Schrute considering himself to be a sheriffs deputy when in reality he was nothing.

I love the band, I LOVE Backspacer but I'm not about to go showing up at retail stores demanding to know where the cd's are or telling them to put them on endcaps. What would be my motivation to do this? I would feel like such an ass walking into Target and doing this. If they didn't want issues they would have released on a normal Tuesday. The Sunday thing was such a stupid idea.

i agree...this is what the Field Communications department is for - at least my company has one

Sorry, the quote from hopethatuchoke's reply didn't come up

Anyway, hopethatuchoke, it's all good, just a misunderstanding on my part and I apologize. I'm really looking forward to the preparties and shows in October and think we will all have a blast. Hope you can make the weekend preparties so we can meet in person. Thanks for clarifying. :D

I know that I was really pissed on Sunday, when I went to 5 Targets that were on the list for the t-shirt, album and rock band. That is why I don't mind helping...maybe next album won't be so hard to purchase.

Were you pissed because you couldn't find the tee? Cause like you I went to the Target in Paradise Valley and once I could get them to pause playing video games in the electronics section the employees told me they never had it, that I had to go to one of the Super Targets.

Made me wonder if they really never had it or if the store employees had taken them all for themselves.

Yep, started there and they actually said they were not getting them and said go to the Desert Ridge store, who was not even on the list.

Went there anyway, and they were clueless too and they did not even have the cd or album out.

Ended up at the Peoria Target, and they had everything displayed...cds, album, shirts, rockband.

I just got back from a Target that was not on the Intel list.

I talked to the manager/retail clerks and they kindly told me that their store was never on the list to receive the t-shirts, Rock Band, nor Vinyl (but they did have a very nice end cap display w/ huge banner). While I understand that only selected stores were receiving these items, I have to say that it would have been nice if the public (a.k.a. huge fan base) actually KNEW what stores would be and would not be carrying these items. This could have been taken care of last with with better P.R. from Target AND TC. I'm not criticizing, just pointing out how this could have been avoided in many cases.

Since no one from the "street team" wants to answer my previous questions but seem to be a bit peeved that someone questions what is going on, I'll ask again... does WL have its own method of communicating with its "street team"??? And if so, why aren't those methods used and not a thread started and posted on the band's website??

It seems that someone associated with the band approached WL and asked them to do this, that is fine. However, they asked WL and THEIR "street team". They did not ask every Pearl Jam fan, or every board member or even feel the need to post on the band's forum, website, myspace page, facebook page, or twitter account. It would then seem that this is meant for WL "street team" members and hence not necessary to post on this board.

And as for those who say that PJ now is doing everything themselves and need a street team... that's fine, they should start one then and not use a charitable organization as one.

It was communicated to the street team via email.

This is the bands web site and forum. Why would it not be posted here?

You have the option of not reading this thread, just I as shift through pages of shit that I might not agree needs to be on the forum, but opt not to make an issue of it because I realize others might be reading it. I guess it is a RESPECT issue.

If I can recall, there were LOTS of threads started about the Target issues on Sunday also...what's the difference.

I REALLY do not understand why some of ya'll are arguing and making an issue of this. It is not putting you out anything. Makes no sense to me at all.

The Wishlist Foundation Street Team is an exclusive team of 250 volunteer fans who work together to promote the Wishlist Foundation, our beneficiaries and Pearl Jam.

Also, explain to me how Pearl Jam is "using" a charitable organization? It is pretty clear to me, based on the statement above.

Then why the need to repost it on the board??? I mean its like me posting an email I got from the Red Cross or Conservation International (both causes that the band supports). It makes no sense that something meant for a SPECIFIC group (250 according to you) is posted and broadcast to everyone who is a fan of this band. If the band wanted this broadcast to their fanbase, they have a huge database of emails, a website, a forum, a myspace page, facebook page, and twitter account as well as contacts with electronic and print media to disperse information.

Again I'll state, if Pearl Jam needs a street team, they should start their own. As far as I know, WL has no affiliation with Pearl Jam other than having a membership which consists of their fans and supporting causes the band support. That's it... WL is not a fundraising arm of Pearl Jam, or a marketing division or even a fan club... they are a separate organization with supports causes of the band using fans of the band.

Sure it contains info regarding the band but is meant for WL "STREET TEAM" members NOT everyone on this board. If it was, then I'm quite sure the mods or Tim would make sure it was posted here.

I believe your question's been answered several times on the last few pages but perhaps not directed personally to you because of what I consider the rude manner in which you addressed it or actually sort of just threw it out there with so much other stuff that it got mixed in the post and was overlooked. Now perhaps you could answer mine. Isn't this the dumbest thing you ever heard - why would the Philadelphia Phillies have really random fans promote the team as world champions from last year on websites for free when the individual gets absolutely no personal benefit from doing so and the Phillies certainly do not need their help because they could easily afford to hire promoters or professionals to do this on their behalf to ensure that everyone knows they were champions last year and really no one cares anyhow because who is this person anyway doing the promoting to tell anyone anything but some joe baseball lover and why don't they keep it on the Philly website instead of the MLB site? This will probably fly over, but it's not what you say sometimes, it's how you say it. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your day.

  • The purpose of posting it on this board was that not all WL street team members religiously check that board for messages or even their own email.
It was also intended to make others aware of the fact that the band, through the street team, is trying to do something to make sure the targets on the list that are supposed to have various items displayed/for sale/available have such items displayed/for sale available
    .
It was in no way intended to demand that anyone march down to their local target and mistreat employees or make unnecessary demands
Just check to see if the items were displayed, if not, ask them when they would be.

    that is all, nothing more.

and like someone else already said, if you don't like a thread title, don't read it.
it's easy, i skip many on a daily basis

and by the way, there is a post on here where Rubysdad (Tim, president of the 10c) tells people that if their target doesn't have the items on display/available/for sale, to ask for them with the item numbers, have the clerks look them up, find out where the items are.

i don't see the need for arguing.

WOW...I seriously can not believe that you have such an issue with this. Like I said before, just skip the thread if you don't like it or agree. It's your opinion. There are others, as me, who see it differently. I still don't understand why you have gotten all worked up over this, as it is something that does not effect you at all.

Maybe you just need a hug?
  • chromiamchromiam Posts: 4,114
Not worked up at all, just asked questions and I get plenty of hugs thanks.

TM- totally different scenario, Now if the Phils asked members of ALS or Red Cross to go into local sporting goods stores and check on mechandise displays and report back, you might be on to something.

luvis- isn't that a problem for WL to solve (people either not checking email or WL wesite)?? I mean it could almost be construed as spamming. And Tim mentioned store codes for finding if merchandise in the stores is available (something I also disagree with), not going into stores and questioning and photographing displays.... there is a big difference.

    chromiam,
I wouldn't consider it spamming as it was posted on a Pearl Jam message board by a Pearl Jam Fan who also happens to be a member of the Wishlist Foundation and Street Team which work to support both the band Pearl Jam and their philanthropic efforts.

and no, Tim didn't ask people to photograph displays, and no one who doesn't want to has to.

I haven't taken a photo, I've simply asked where the items were at, and when they might be displayed.
One store pointed me to the location of the display in the front of the store, the other indicated they were stocking their display later today.

If you can't find something in a store, do you walk out without it or do you ask where it is?
Me, I ask where it is and if it was an item I was expecting to be in stock on a particular day, I find out when it might be in stock.
