Calling all Street Teamers! There have been some issues with the Target Backspacer release yesterday and the band is asking for your help.

TASK:

1. Accept this Order.
2. Print out this Order.
3. Go to the Intel section of this site and write down several Target Street team locations in your area.
4. With this printed Order, go to your local Target store.
5. Ask the music department to make sure all the Backspacer CDs are out on display on the new music endcaps.
6. A select amount of stores should also have the T-shirt, Vinyl, Rockband
version, another endcap at the registers, and a big PJ display with custom signs (store list at the bottom)
7. For these select stores, please ask to get those items looked up and
displayed properly. (See DCPI numbers below)
8. If they are already displayed, take photos of the displays. If they aren’t check back until they are displayed correctly.
9. Log back in to this order and write a summary of what Target location you visited and what you accomplished there. Send this in as proof.

I love the band, I LOVE Backspacer but I'm not about to go showing up at retail stores demanding to know where the cd's are or telling them to put them on endcaps. What would be my motivation to do this? I would feel like such an ass walking into Target and doing this. If they didn't want issues they would have released on a normal Tuesday. The Sunday thing was such a stupid idea.

nope, we don't want you to demand anything.
just ask where they are and when they plan on putting them out.

my take is that many targets were not hyper-aware of the sunday release date as this is an odd date for new music to be out.

I was in the Target in Rockaway, NJ today. Backspacer CDs, vinyl, and Rock Band editions were prominently displayed on an end unit in the music/video area, which is right by the entrance. I did not see t-shirts near the music, and did not have time to look further, as I needed to pry my kids out of the Lego aisle.

Just a comment and a few questions:
This is just ridiculous!!!! Pearl Jam is a MAJOR act dealing with a MAJOR retail chain, and they are asking the "street team" of a charitable organization to check and tell the MAJOR retailer how to do their job.... hahahahaha They should be doing the checks themselves, randomly, using an outside company and making Target comply with whatever the stipulations of their distribution agreement was.

And now the questions: Why is this reposted on the board if it is an order for the WL "street team"?? I'm sure WL has a way to distribute info to their members and should use their resources not the band's to achieve this.

Who is anyone, on this board, the "street team" or anyone off the street, to walk into a retail store and tell them how to display and sell merchandise??? There are weekly diagrams sent to all stores to do this, if a store didn't comply, that's the band's and store management's problem to solve, not Joe Customer.

Dear lord I hope you people aren't serious. Target Corp doesn't think to highly of people who take pictures inside their stores, and ESPECIALLY of their displays.

Also, if you are going in there asking/telling them that this stuff needs to be put out, and you are taking pictures, you'll get a good old nice visit from Assets Protection. And at the least be asked to leave.

It is my understanding that the Street Team is a part of the Wishlist Foundation that helps promote the band, as well as support their philanthropic efforts. Since there were many threads on here complaining about Target for a myriad of reasons. IMO who better than the fans to confirm or deny these allegations with documented proof. If you disagree, you have the choice to decline. Geez folks you whine about the distribution & get a chance to help but rather find problem with helping to fix your complaint!

Since there were many threads on here complaining about Target for a myriad of reasons. IMO who better than the fans to confirm or deny these allegations with documented proof. If you disagree, you have the choice to decline. Geez folks you whine about the distribution & get a chance to help but rather find problem with helping to fix your complaint!

IMO, who better than the fans? Target? A merchadising company? A secret shopper company? PJ's record label? IMO, selling records is a for profit venture and thus, if you need something fixed, somebody should eat the cost, and that somebody shouldn't be a fan that signed up to do charitable work.

And no I am not going to be an asshole about how lousy of a job they are doing... but simply bring their attention to the issue at hand.

I am enjoying this task to get me out of the house...as I've told people over nad over that PJ does a good job of getting my ass out of the house.

I will ask for permission to take pictures ahead of time.... if they said no, then I would say something like "but aren't you proud of what your store is doing and let me prove that with the pictures of the displays and whatnot?"

Trust me, I do not come off as a bitch when I run into problems....until people become really of assholes and push my buttons....then I'll say I am going to write a complaint to Target.

No, it won't go that far.... I'll keep you posted, not that people care here anyway....

IMO you totally misinterpreted what was stated, I never got the message that anyone was telling me to MARCH anywhere and DEMAND anything, I was ASKED if I wanted to follow a predetermined format (10C, Wishlist, and the band) set up as a result, (I would guess), of all the complaints they received on here about Target and the distribution issues. As for this being some power thing, that must be a a regional reaction because I never viewed any of what I do for Wishlist as "power". I really have no idea what you are referring to and may I ask just what type of non-power, power (your example) do you mean? For me it's been about being involved in giving back as a fan of Pearl Jam - nothing more or less. I also worked very hard in the last presidential election, another grassroots effort and for no reason but the satisfaction of supporting what I believed in - is that the non-power, power trip you reference? Perhaps you have a different motivation for support than I do - I do not look for anything material in return nor do I believe I have any authority over anyone for my actions in any group in completing what I select to do for it. C'est la vie. I am just curiousabout these three things: what you deem is "power"; where anyone was told to "demand" anything: and lastly why did you not simply acknowledge "decline" as your option, instead choosing to poke fun at people who may want to do it. Guess you are not aware that these are new concepts for those that choose to do them. Really, if you are not a member, I am curious how does this concern you at all? If you are, then you can always choose to decline. CHOICE makes the difference, IMO. Whether or not people accept to do this is totally up to the people doing it and this impacts you in what way? I am sure attorneys have combed over the matter long before it ever reached the page - PJ has been around long enough to look before they leap from a business perspective. There are other fan clubs who do similar tasks and a ton of organizations that ask their members to do similar things and all fall under the same charitable status. BTW, nice of you to acknowledge all the good work Wishlist has done over the years to help many people from many different causes and all the hard work those people put into it - maybe yourself included. Oh my bad, you didn't. You chose to admonish it for what you allege is some form of green disease. At least that is my take on what you have written and it is your opinion. Of course, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, including me.

Wow...I find this a little astonishing that fellow fans are arguing about this. As a member of Wishlist, I don't have a problem stopping by a few Targets to check out what they have displayed, or not, and ask a couple of questions, then simply report back.

It was clear to me when I signed up that this was also a street team. I was impressed that it is a street team that also raises a lot of money for causes that are close to the band. I have been involved in several street teams, and this was a first, as band's street teams ALWAYS just promote the band. I was heavily involved in the Gin Blossoms' street team back in the day when it was formed and we did everything for the band. This would have been considered ridiculously easy.

This is the first time that Pearl Jam has "used" a street team. They released the record themselves and need one now.

When you think about it, and see the complaining by the fans about Target on the board, who better than 200 fans across the country could do this task, quickly?

I just don't get the complaining and arguing, though. It is a "by choice" task. The results could really benefit the band in the future, which will benefit the fan.

I know that I was really pissed on Sunday, when I went to 5 Targets that were on the list for the t-shirt, album and rock band. That is why I don't mind helping...maybe next album won't be so hard to purchase.

I love this band, and have for MANY years, just like all of ya'll do. May sound trite, but they have helped me, many times over, get through "life". I have kinda grown up with them and lyrically, they have always been at the same place I am. I don't mind supporting the band and giving back a little for their continued success.

Putting up posters is one thing, going into a store and telling them they are not meeting the contractual obligations (without any knowledge of those obligations) is a very different matter.

They aren't forcing anyone to do this... and you'd think with such threads like "PJ should hire interns!!", fans would love to be involved in something like this to pay forward for all the things the band have done and stood for....that's what I really love about them, they are very conscious human beings.

I do other things for my community and other things...but I love the idea for my favorite band!

Thank you for speaking on behalf of those who really want to do something, even if it is a small contribution making a difference.

You may interpret it as a with hunt, but it's really not, in my humble opinion... they just want to make corrections and it is up to us if we want to be part of it.... they are not holding guns at our heads.

They wouldn't condone bad attitude towards Target employees, I would think.

This is also good opportunity for young people to learn how to communicate and solving problems, don't you think? Edit: This would teach some people how to be proactive and not resorting to complaining, but fixing the situation to the best of their abilities....

Just differing opinions and perspectives on this issue, I guess...

It all depends on what you are giving. Some of these folks give and give and choose to give back even further by fulfilling a request by the band's management to help.

To each his/her own. We all give in our own ways. Some by fund-raising and volunteering. Either way, the Street Team is a neat way to be part of a symbiotic relationship with something that means so much to people in so many facets. As for me, I try to do what I can. I cant do everything that's part of the Street Team, but there lies the beauty of it; it's what you choose to do or not do and what you make out of it.

Target has dropped the ball, we all know that now. Having local volunteers who can report on where there are loopholes and how to correct those loopholes only helps both PJ AND Target in the end, not to mention the consumers. It's not a witch hunt, it's helping PJ's promotional mission succeed, and getting the SNAFUs sorted out in a local and hands-on way, rather than rely on things sorting themselves out coming from the top.

I'm sorry...you totally misinterpreted the Dwight Schrute thing/ power thing. I WAS NOT making fun of you or what is perceived to be your "power". I was describing how I would feel walking into a Target following the suggested instructions. Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as accusatory or insulting.
