  • For thediehards, I can see how they would pay even more than the 80 (maybe even 125), the thing is that PJ does not make as much money from diehards at this stage in their career as with new fans (average fan)
this is because chances are diehards have evrything pj as it was released and new fans do not.

I think pricing out the average fan is a mistake and this will cost them.

For example, a friend of mine going to the show vowed to not spend a dime on any merch because of the high price. Also instead of going to 3 shows, he is only going to one and because of this he is upset at the band and will be less likely to spend at thier shows.

The truth is that most fans for years have gone to multiple nights on the tours for years and the band knows this. They may think that charging one show for the price of 3 (based on 03) means they make more money.

However if they do not sell out venues, then they actually left money on the table ( more people at shows spend more money on merch). I think they did it wrong during this tour and hopefully they change back to being afoordable for the avg fan.

am i missing the point here? the venues all sold out that i went to!! and the merch desks were madness
  • Our local shows did not sell out last I checked.

U can go to ticketmaster And search pearl jam and I am sure tickets will be available for some shows.

It all depends on the area and number of shows they play.

Some will sell out no matter what simply because there are limited entertainment options in the area.

I can only speak of the euro tour. berlin was rammed full, men didnt have a space in site, and the 02 arena (which is huge) sold out in 9 mins, and probably could have sold out 3 times.

so to say these are not selling well is frankly iMHO bollocks.

Playing 4 nights in a row at LA and Philly, shows incredible demand to me also. I heard Chicago sold out both nights, and Torronto.

I'm williong to bet even in this recession there will not be a spare seat in sight (that hasnt been paid for)
  • Yes, they are expensive.
    hippiemom = goodness
  • Yeah it is too high. Comparing prices to other bands doesn't make it any better.

There are still nosebleed pairs for San Diego, and LA 1 and 4. Only singles left for LA 2 and LA 3, although I might have mixed that up.

Pretty sure all four LA shows will sell out.
  • same as last tour and even that was only a few dollars more than the tour before that.

  • I would think average spend per person will go down as well. Higher prices = less merch sold.

Bootlegs will probably do the same though.

I hope they have their lowest grossing tour (including merch) so prices go down next time.

I am not sure if I am willing to pay 100% increases in 6 years. Also, anything over 100 will probably entice me to skip since I have seen then so many times already.

no, I think they're about the same price they've been the past 1 or 2 tours. And considering that I have a ticket to U2 that I bought for $115 face value, no I don't think $68 is that expensive.
  • What was the 10c face value for this tour anyway? Wasn't it all the same for Philly, Seattle, Chicago and LA??

I think most of your points are the the same nonsense people spout on here every couple of weeks about ticket prices. Facts are: (i) they must be making a bundle of cash, as they wouldn't price the tickets that way otherwise, and (ii) the venues are rammed full.

And you speak of the "average fan". Surely, the average fan of an early nineties rock band is now someone in their 30s or 40s with expendible income for leisure? Working class people rarely go to shows that cost so much and most people in the higher earning brackets will happily spend $80 at the weekend on a few clothes, a DVD box set or something else. The ticket prices are aimed precisely at the "average fan", the band is not one that is attracting an audience of 16 year olds.
we're all going to the same place...

I think all concert tickets are expensive.

They've definately increased much faster than inflation over the past 20 years.

I blame some of it on the scalpers, as they were flipping tickets for 5 times their face value, and bands/agents/bookee's were seeing there was an unrealized profit they weren't making.

I don't think PJ's ticket prices are out of with any other band of their calibur. They're right in the ballbark. They're not less, not more, they're kinda just doing what everyone else does.

yes agree. and the scalpers make the tickets more scarce, which only increases their value. my friend's bf scalps tickets all the time (he's tried to offer me tickets for a mark up!) and I just want to like hit him on the head and knock some sense into him. Do we really need people making tickets for stuff like U2 any MORE expensive than they already are? for christ's sake!
