Why or why not? A friend and I have been discussing this topic (long time fans been to a bunch of shows) and feel prices are getting out of reach for fans.

In fact our local shows did not sell out last tine I checked. Previously, shows would sell out in minutes.

Note: this is not a question of whether you personally can afford the tickets as I assume most with a job can if they sacrifice some other area from their budget (face it 80 bucks or 160 for 2 pays more than a few bills and buys groceries etc)

It is just a question is this getting out of reach 4 the average fan?

Thoughts?

I don't think that the tickets are overpriced, we have to expect some sort of increase, things are more expensive for the band such as venues and travelling cost ect, and to compare to most big bands there tickets are still cheaper!!

yeah its expensive. but its right in line with other acts, and cheaper then a lot of bands.

but its the nature of the beast, does it suck ? yep. will i pay it ? yes indeed.

its not just PJ, its most bands that have had to raise the ticket price.

so when you compare them to other bands, $80 bucks is a bargin. IMO.

  • I certainly don’t have a problem paying that kind of money to see Pearl Jam, because as stated by all the responders, they are one of the greatest live bands ever.

But I can see your point. If I was a high school or college aged fan, I can imagine that there might not be areas to cut in your budget to afford concert tickets.

Thank God I’m not a youngster anymore.:lol:

  • I think ticket prices have gone up too high. But then again, when they got into the $50 doller range I thought they were too high.

This coming from a guy who buys six doller beers at the show!

Tickets were $35 in '03. Given things have changed, they could stand to be $10-$15 cheaper i.m.o. ticket prices have gone up, and they haven't exactly been selling out all the time (generalization, not strictly about pj). just saying, do the math. tickets are a bit overpriced nowadays.

80 bucks if very reasonable in today's concert arena.

although if you have to choose between Pearl Jam and groceries, i'd choose the groceries.

hope you are able to make it work for you.

Last time I went to a Patriots game it was $40 or $45 just to park.

I don't think its too expensive to see shows at that price. I'm sure lots of jaws would drop if we were to find the overall cost to throw something like a concert.

I feel ticket prices are high, but not too expensive.

You can make an argument that they are overpriced at the back of the arena, and therefore some places don't sell out the "nosebleeds", but I think the price point is fine in general.
  • yes.

i paid for sets of two tickets to both sbe and o2 arena shows almost £100. this is expensive where in london a lot of other really cool bands will not try to charge you more than £30-35 per ticket. And I saw NIN in o2 arena for £37.50 while their show seems to be much bigger with much more lights and all that trent reznor stage spiel extravaganza.

so, yes, they are expensive and PJ should make em cheaper. because they can.

absolutely not. $80 bucks for two amazing acts is crazy good. jay-z is charging around $70 himself, a friend of mine went to coldplay and spent $115. this concert is fair priced and will be the best show around.

    Yes,

Anything over $50 a seat really makes me think hard about ponying up that money, especially at this point in my early career. When you factor in fees, parking, gas, it really adds up quick.

I think there is definitely an issues will all seats in a venue being the same price. Lets face it, some seats suck and should be cheaper. I was at a few concerts this year at Star Lake and paid $10 for the lawn. Place was always packed, as compared to paying $60 to see the cure in which all seats were the same price...Many empty sections.... Your more likely to discover a new band and gain new fans by making 1 section extremely affordable so that person who is harrassed by there friends will give into "common man, tickets are only 20 bucks"

Yes, the Stones can get away with it cause their popularity has spanned 4 decades...Alot of people ask me if PJ is still around...blasphemy I know..
  • Yes, considering I paid less than face value for 200 level tickets on the side of Stone for the Philly 3rd show. I paid $150.00 for a pair, which included $16.00 secured shipping. Will people pay? Yes. I've been going to PJ concerts since the No Code tour and prices have been exponentially rising. The cost of doing business has not grown nearly as much as PJ tickets. This tour, I finally have to stop defending the band as it relates to the ticket prices. In addition, they are releasing a ton of material and flooding the PJ market. It takes the excitment out of their old mysterious ways for me. I remember when I would get excited to listen to a whole show on a CD or a Cassette. That being said, I love the band and will continue to support them.

PS. I bought a T-shirt from the ten club a few months ago. It was the biggest piece of shit I have ever purchased. I was insulted that they would send me such crap. I sent it right back. The quality was sickingly poor. I'd rather purchase a shirt from an outside vendor. That's not right.

Go ahead now and tear me a knew one.

  • Tix going up over 100% in 6 years is alot (35 in 03)

oh and where I live there are no 6 dollar beers, they are about 12 bucks...

    overpriced...probably.

am I still going to pay it and feel it was worthwhile?

    yep.

(and so is just about everyone else on this board. admit it, we're lifers.) ;)
  • Ticket prices are rising...the question is, are Pearl Jam ticket prices rising faster than other bands...I doubt it.

I think the prices are decently expensive. I was pretty shocked at how high they are. Didn't change to amount of shows I'm going to. I'm just glad I'm not an 18 year old kid anymore so I can afford them.

wait people pay to see jay z???

Once you see a show on this tour you'll quickly understand that the price is a bargain for what you get
  • I remember back in '97, when I seriously considered skipping Lollapalooza because they were charging *gasp!* $50 a ticket. Given the current economy, it blows me away that I'm spending more than $160 on a pair for ONE band (yeah one, I've yet to see a PJ opener worth my money - the Fastbacks, Lifehouse, Sonic Youth and Sleater Kinney all blow severely. Yep, said it.), especially one that's gone to such great lengths in the past to keep their costs down.

if the venues were empty I may see your point. But the shows so far all sold out double quick within minutes so I don't follow. Sure many may not recognize the name but clearly plenty do.

No a accident that they outsold the stones on 2006 or 7 by 30000 in the same venue in holland

Ok you people tha say 80 buck is a steal for the "greatest show on earth" arent the smartest bunch. I agree with Pearl Jam being the best Live concert out there and I go to a TON of concerts a year (which leads me to getting yelled at by the misses) but 80 is to much money for the times we live in with the economic times we are in. Not like they are hurting for money and if they are then they should be wiser with there money (pearl jam and the people getting paid by them) But to lower the price of a ticket to 65 is really not asking much.... Is it? I would say no.

So answer I believe yes 80 is to much but I did buy 3 of 4 Philly shows so I guess jokes on me/us.

For the average, working class fan? Yeah I do. But I guess they're in line with a lot of acts. I'd pay to see 'em once, but couldn't afford anymore than that right now.

  • Yes, it is ridiculous how expensive they are. I know some people who want to go to the upcoming key arena shows but cant afford it
I don't blame the band, its just how shitty the economy has gotten and with people illegally downloading music n shit, tickets for any band are around that range

Simple really, they're too expensive if the shows don't sell out. If they do then they aren't. Yeah, they could make the tickets $15 cheaper but chances are most people would spend the extra $15 on beers at the venue. Are they wrong to want to make as much as they can while still being more affordable than many other acts with a similar status? I don't think so. It is their job after all.

What I do think they should do is make the tickets cheaper for the upper bowls in the arenas from about 1/2 way back as these aren't worth as much as lower bowl/floor seating. This would mean they still sell out the show but offer more people the chance to get into the venue.
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
  • Let me preface this by saying that at $80 a ticket, they are worth every penny. But, considering all the band has said and done in the past to keep prices low, along with indications that the band has adopted more of a "make money now" business approach (I have seen others call this selling out, I won't go that far), I think ticket prices could and should be lower. I listen to my uncle talk about following the Dead around in a van for a summer and think that would be pretty cool. The summer of '10 would be the prefect time in my life to do that with my favorite band, but, unfortunately, with gas and food and everything else included, I don't see how I could afford more than 3 shows.
