Fox News and the rest of the media would absolutely play the story out quite differently. No doubt. Yes, people should be more open minded and not play the race card, but it's a plain fact, that the media would portray this picture completely different, if it was Bush on the podium and not Obama.

"Fox News" and "the rest of the media" are two different entities. Fox News is a right-wing pom-pom waver. The rest of the media worships at the altar of Obama.

If in 2007, say, Harry Reid had pulled a Joe Wilson during a George W. speech, Fox News would have been appalled. The rest of the media would have hailed Harry Reid as a hero. Basically the opposite of what is happening now.

Ideology has everything to do with it. Race has nothing do with it.

That's exactly the point on this occasion it gives the down graded appearance that it's ok to speak down and outright call out the President who happens to be a person of color. Even after an apology what I believe will follow will be the encouragement of citizens doing the same thing if not worse in front of a national audience. Do you think congressman Wilson would've done the same thing in the same scenario if it was former president GWB, I honestly DON'T think so?

Even when we had a President like GWB who we now know lied about WMD and other lies the most that was uttered to him were boos during a major speech. Which is also improper. This may not have made no
*curse word* difference to you however the impact is far reaching than a fucking joke.

Good Christ. You're on the right side of this argument. Joe Wilson acted like a jackass. Dragging race into it really cheapens your argument.

I'm getting really sick of this prevalent idea that if you disagree with or critcize Obama, it's because you are a racist. It can't be that you simply passionately disagree with him on a hot-button issue. No, that's not possible at all.

If this is true, then any black person who critcized George W. Bush must also be a racist.

Sad thing here about these outbursts by both sides is that it will be followed by the citizenry of this country as we go forward when the President speaks. How can we grow into the future as a nation divided in colors of red and blue makes no sense to me?

Can you imagine what the outrage would've been had a black Congressman had uttered the same words during a major speech by George W Bush

I will calmly try to answer you. I originally posted this hypothetical question to my quote speaking about both sides behaving improper in front of a national audience. I based this question on the uproar in the media that has come about what congressman Wilson said last night. I was only throwing the situation out there as to how huge the uproar would be IF the congressman and President were reversed, that's all.

I don't have an agenda of race for or against Obama, I didn't vote for Obama, i don't dislike him, however I'm one the first on MT to call out Obama for some of his policies so far that I've disagreed with. I like to disagree and criticize him because I want to see him improve no more than I did with GWB.

Then I only answered jlew based on the comment he made. From time to time as we go forward as a nation being that Obama is black phases of race will come up whether we want to speak about them or not in the future. No intention was made to offend you or anyone else, we can ask hypothetical questions right? .

I honestly don't know what point you are trying to make.

If, in 2007, then-Senator Obama had barked at George W. Bush from the floor of the Senate, the Republicans would have been outraged and the Democrats would have given him oral pleasure. Pretty much the opposite of what's happening now.

Again, I'm not sure what in the hell race has to do with anything.

Republicans=Outraged...they would want and would get him him to resign

Democrats=oral pleasure...does this mean in a sexual way they wouldn't want anything to with that. :D

I'm pretty sure they were some Republicans not too happy with what transpired last night.

Again a hypothetical question that you can choose to answer or NOT.

  • not to mention that Joe Wilson is a colonel in the SC National Guard. Disrespecting one's Commander in Chief is usually followed by becoming a private. Just sayin'.

oh and he was wrong. RePubes just want National Identity cards. Which can be faked.

maybe Social Security numbers would work, but i guess they can be gotten down at the local Home Depot.

i have no memory of this either. i would have called them out on it too. its about respect for the office.

'Respect for the office'? Isn't that something Bush and his criminal cohorts were lacking for eight consecutive years?

dude you know obama is much more professional and has much more class and he would never do such a thing. i think that is his problem. he is trying too much bipartisanship and is trying to be above all the partison bickering when the gop clearly will not go along with anything at all and will not propose anything that has a chance at passing. there is no comparison between obama and that redneck dolt wilson.

i meant that the members of congress should have respect for the office regardless of who occupies it. i should have been more clear on that because clearly guys like nixon, clinton and bush had no respect for it.

  • Ok I hear Fox News is sooo bad. I am watching Olberman and his guest from huffington post just said the Afircan-Americans are in and uproar over the first president to be heckled, was a black president. Why is this tuning out to be a race thing? Noone can disagree with the president since he is black?

aaaah who cares...seriously, bushy and company used the "hate card" (i.e. "if you don't support the president you must be hate America" and "blinded by your hate for bush")

now some supporters of Obama are accused of using the "race card"...it's all a game...we're just playing with a new set of cards... ;)

So if everything out of Obama’s mouth is a lie, then back when Bush was doing whatever he wished where were the Dems to scream lair in his presence?

The Dems can be such pussies at times.
    On the other hand,
The Reps behavior grows worse. They think people buy that BS. And guess what?…I think a lot of people do.
So Reps see that it works and keep doing it!

I’ve seen Dems pull crap but it seems Reps take it to a whole new level.

Can’t people see pass the bad behavior and get the facts about Obama’s proposal and urge their Congressperson to act on their wishes?
And if the Congressperson chooses to spew crap instead, us voters can flood their office with hate mail….or anthrax. ;)
We’re way too passive. In France or wherever, the government is scared of its people. People riot and stuff if the government isn’t working for them.
