  • This is what happens when siblings marry. His behavior was entirely inappropriate for an elected official during a Presidential address. The lack of respect was shameful.

I see it as just another distraction. We're smarter than that. Let focus on health care reform and ignore the idiots.
  • Now, here's a real ass clown.

  • lol cincy. i rate that

i just finished reading your reply in the shoe throwing thread, so this made me smile.

What does this Congressman care about being a class act on healthcare during a Presidential speech, he has healthcare for life?

Sad thing is there are many idiots on both sides. Hope they can get something done together. Odds are against them.
  • I'll agree that the way he voiced his remark was out of line but I don't remember everyone getting so fired up whenever a host of democrats boo'ed Bush during his last State of the Union Address. The biggest problem I have is that everyones focusing on how Wilson called out Obama and they're skipping over the fact that he was right in what he yelled.

But I wonder how many people condemning his actions today consider the Iraqi shoe thrower to be a hero.

this fact you speak of is not a fact at all...

so it appears the only fact here is that Joe Wilson is a Liar...

How was he right? The Presidents plan WILL NOT offer care for people who are in the country illegally.

I don't remember Democrats booing Bush during his State of the Union address. If they did, it would be equally disrespectful.

But I wonder how many people condemning his actions today consider the Iraqi shoe thrower to be a hero.

quite the random comparison...anyway, I don't think the shoe thrower is a hero...

my fault, I don't read every thread...perhaps random may have been the wrong word...perhaps silly would have been a better choice... ;)

    Random?

Both people interrupted a speech by a sitting U.S. president. One is held up as a jackass by the conventional wisdom of this board, one is held up as a martyr.

I think they're both jackasses, frankly.

tehnically i think the shoe thrower was at a press conference, not a speech

also, 1 did so making a false statement of 'that's a lie!' or whatever he said. the other reacted to years of violent occupation where a lot still didn't have consistent running water or electricity, random outbursts of violence, looooooooooots of deaths.

it's easy to say 'war is hell' but that's meaningless when it's your neighborhood being indiscriminately bombed and your innocent neighbors or family members being shrugged off as collateral damage. especially when there was no real reason for it all

oh, yeah, we had to be afraid of that mushroom cloud Saddam was gonna unleash

That a good point. It is, however, irrelevant.

Look, it's not a big deal. I just find the double standard to be kind of funny.

it was irrelevant, that's why i said technically.

    Yep - a classless move.

Sadly, classless moves are becoming more and more common in our society.
The only people we should try to get even with...

Maybe he thought it was a Town Hall meeting, not a joint session of Congress.

    Yeah.. it could happen.

I saw ... you kind of re-fought the Iraq War in that post, which is also a tad irrelevant. Either it's important to approach our differences of opinion with a sense of decorum, or it isn't.

Maybe if Joe Wilson had simply thrown a loafer ...

I can see the comparison... but, it all depends on how you view it, that matters... I guess.
I mean, not too many Americans think the Iraqi shoe thrower is a Hero or a martyr. The people in Iraq may feel differently, but not the Americans... or, at least, most of us.
I guess a fair comparison would be to ask the Iraqi people of how they feel about Joe Wilson, to get a more defined view.
    ...
But, still.. the shoe thing was funny. Mostly because Bush ducked them like he's had shoes thrown at his head before (I'm looking at you, Laura). If Bush had actually been hit... I'd probablty feel differently.

The republicans have really become a joke.

He got his name in the paper....

I loved the "How dare you speak to the king like that" look old Nancy gave wilson.

I love the double standard with this president. The last 8 years the Liberals tore Bush apart and now someone heckles their guy and it becomes a total outrage. You would think this guy sold secrets to the Taliban or something.

Wilson probably should have kept his mouth shut, but it seems the focus should be on the real issue here. Instead, like usual, there is some sidebar that ruins the discussions.

I'm fairly certain I heard that about the Dems a few years back. It's a vicious cycle

Sad thing here about these outbursts by both sides is that it will be followed by the citizenry of this country as we go forward when the President speaks. How can we grow into the future as a nation divided in colors of red and blue makes no sense to me?
