It's definitely up there with "Light Years" as one of Pearl Jam's most emotional songs.
It certainly does invoke emotion. Anger is an emotion, no? Light Years is a brilliant song. Come Back is a B-side for an 6th grade school dance compilation.
It is ok to not like a song, but now you are just being silly. Silly-willy.
Possibly being silly because it is probably the only PJ song that I actually hate. It's not that big of a deal, I just skip it - but I love panning it on here because lots of people like it for some reason.

Have to be the one to remind you guys that this song is possibly the worst song that PJ has ever released. I so rarely get to use the term "Worse Than Hitler" so I guess that Comeback has that going for it. I will give it this though: when played in succession, it makes The Fixer sound like Stairway to Heaven.

Am I deaf or do I just call it as I see it? It's a crap song. Period. Boring music with lyrics and singing that would make Jon Bon Jovi roll over in his grave if he were dead. If any band other than PJ released this song, it would be labelled as tripe on here.

I like it alot and loved hearing it in Chicago. Last album it took a very long time for me to pick a favorite. I can say Come Back is a close first. I like the words and just the whole solo buy Mike and just the entire song in general.
There is something about this song. I remember when it came out alot of us were surprised because it didnt sound like a typical Pearl Jam tune.
But there is something, even now 3 years later, that causes the same goosebumps to rise, as they did when I first heard this song.
And in a world where everything is offkilter, where wars seem to consume everything, where the world is in flames and the pollution is murdering our planet.
When Ed says "Its okay", I find peace in that. I get comfort from it. And I believe it. If only for that moment. It will be okay. Just as he says.
The whole song is spectacular, but from 3:37 on, the tune is absolutely sublime.
Absolutely love what you have said here...it is, in my opinion, a spectacular song...a lot of people ( alot of them on here too ) dont get this song...Im ok with that, but i think theyre missing something truly special...i totally agree everything you say here....I honestly think its one of PJ's finest moments....just watch Immagine in Cornice...spectacular....I would loved to have seen the emotion charged version from chicago this year...great thread my friend
Absolutely bollox....stupid pointless comment....If you get Black and you get Man Of The Hour...you obviously get PJ...you obviously get that its an emotionally charged song that Eddie sings with awesome power and passion everytime....hence the reason why they played it at the pivotal point at the chicago show just after singing happy birthday...I actually dont understand your comment on Come Back...actually Im not even gonna try...

No, but it's my number 1 fear. Thanks alot. I used to rock out to Evacuation but now I'm going to be crying like a baby thinking of my favourite uncle evacuating himself to death. PJ is just too deep and hard on the heart to be writing music like this. I never realised that the key to "getting" each song is simply just to imagine the death of a loved one in the context of each song ... I smell a new thread. I'm liking the garbage that is Come Back more and more with each post.

The death of a loved one just happens to be the base of THIS song (at least, that's how I hear it). And when I apply it to my life, what Ed says and the way he sings it is the way I would feel if, say, my girlfriend died.

I've got a different take on this song that makes it a great song for me. I always took it as a song for a soldier's family. With all of the political leanings on that album and with Eddie getting to know Thomas Young i always thought this was were Eddie was going with this song. And the first time i saw this live in Camden i was blown away. Just my take

i really like this song for the lyrics and the simple 12 bar blues arrangement. classic. i think that may be why it has an "older" feel to it. as has been said, its an amazing song live, especially when mike rips into the solo. when this came out, i thought for certain it would be the show-closing replacement for yellow ledbetter. it has the same essential elements- though i know i'll probably get to taste the flames of blasphemy for suggesting eat. where's my asbestos shirt?
This song was one of my favorites from the first time I heard it. I recently lost my sister to cancer and this song made me cry everytime I heard it. It was hard to listen to at first, but it also made me feel close to her. I thank Eddie for comforting me with this beautiful and emotional song. He made me believe that everything would be ok. PJ has been so instumental in my life, this song is just another way they have touched me....thank you boys
