Come Back

There is something about this song. I remember when it came out alot of us were surprised because it didnt sound like a typical Pearl Jam tune.

But there is something, even now 3 years later, that causes the same goosebumps to rise, as they did when I first heard this song.

And in a world where everything is offkilter, where wars seem to consume everything, where the world is in flames and the pollution is murdering our planet.

When Ed says "Its okay", I find peace in that. I get comfort from it. And I believe it. If only for that moment. It will be okay. Just as he says.

The whole song is spectacular, but from 3:37 on, the tune is absolutely sublime.

Have to be the one to remind you guys that this song is possibly the worst song that PJ has ever released. I so rarely get to use the term "Worse Than Hitler" so I guess that Comeback has that going for it. I will give it this though: when played in succession, it makes The Fixer sound like Stairway to Heaven.

  • Awesome video of Chicago. They better play this in Philly!!!

Come Back made me cry the first time I heard it and when it's sung right it still does.
I'm not sure why some songs are like that, but it DOES pull up the goosebumps and tears.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&
  • To me, comeback isn't my favorite tune, nor is it my least favorite tune, nor is it just an average PJ song to me...

I put Comeback on a completely different scale. It is it's own category and deserves to remain it's own category. I feel if people were to compare this song to any other in PJ's anthology, they would be foolish

there is just so much to this song it's crazy...i love this song

really appreciated it more once I saw it live

nice to hear it in Chicago night 1, though for a sad reason

love the part when he says it's ok, like the op says

I'll admit that it is tolerable live. But only because any live PJ is typically pretty good. It's definitely more entertaining than the Wings -- lol.

Haha -- no Lemaire this year but no Gaborik as well. Going to see Chicago and Pittsburgh in Minny one weekend in January.

In keeping the thread on topic -- Come Back is, as Shaq would say, horri-awful -- a combination of horrible and awful.

  • Your so deep! LOL
  • Initially, when I heard the song I thought there was something Aerosmith-y about the song that turned me off, but it slowly grew on me. I now see it as a really strong Soul song, that I can envision Otis or a Stax outfit performing. The Chicago I perfomance put this in a whole new stratosphere for me. It is now my favorite song from S/T, it gives me chills every time I hear it now.

It's definitely up there with "Light Years" as one of Pearl Jam's most emotional songs.

It certainly does invoke emotion. Anger is an emotion, no? Light Years is a brilliant song. Come Back is a B-side for an 6th grade school dance compilation.

It is ok to not like a song, but now you are just being silly. Silly-willy.

I've been admiring your cat. I like the way it moves

Kidding, seems like many cats look something like this. My cat, not featured in the avatar, looks almost identical except it has three legs. Cats Kick Ass! So does Come Back!

I just close my eyes and think about the dance that I didn't have the balls to ask for. Oh, Laura Quigley, will dance with me? Come back, sixth grade dance, COME BACK!!!

Although I really appreciate the creativity that the term "Worse than Hitler" is demonstrative of... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f399/myfask/258Troll_spray.jpg

I love this song. There's a genuine outpouring of emotion by someone who has experienced significant loss in this song. While I'm not happy that the author's loss has been experienced, I am grateful for the ability of the author to so accurately capture that sense of emotion. It's really quite beautiful. And to the person that mentioned it earlier... I also think there's a 50's feel to it. I have since I first heard it... But for the life of me I haven't been able to place exactly why.
