One time on the way back from Seattle, I suggested listening to Pearl Jam. My husband informed me he only likes 3 songs and he doesn't want to hear them.
I didn't tell him I got tickets for this tour. He found out reading the captions for my emails to a friend that I'm taking to the concert. When he found out I was going he about blew a gasket. That is too much money to spend on a concert. (It's ok if I go to Rush and Heart, but it's too fucking much to pay for Pearl Jam)
It's a good thing I have at least one friend that likes them. (Her husband didn't want to go)
Heavy sigh.
So, Pearl Jam is MY personal music. That's what it means to ME. That's all that matters.
It's all about me.
A real possibility I may meet you in my dreams ~ I go to sleep
My wife likes some songs, mainly the slower ones. She likes the fixer and supersonic. She also enjoyed Ed's solo show. Basically, she could take em or leave em at this point. She's not going to put on a PJ album or look for their songs on youtube like she does for other artists she enjoys. She'll only listen when I happen to have their stuff on.
Pretty much describes my wife also. She's been to 2 of Eddie's shows and loved them. She will always go to those now. She is going with me to 2 PJ shows for the first time, so I'm a little "nervous".

but, took my wife in 96 and that was about it for Pearl jam for her....I hear her humming parts of Last exit, Jeremy, and betterman but she couldn't less.....she likes Last Kiss though
If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
he's pretty indifferent .. i took him to a show a few years back and he liked it, but it didnt really turn him into a fan. he did say he'd go to another one if the opportunity arose. he's just not the type to get REALLY into any music/band (pretty much the exact opposite of me in that respect).
my girlfriend hates that i have this obsession that she cannot identify with... i would love for her to share going on pearl jam tour w me but she doesnt get why i have the drive to see them 10+ times on any given tour.
plus...at the moment she really is expecting an engagement ring... so right now she sees pearl jam as an obstacle...
...she's already threatened me...if i cheat on her she is destroying my entire...huge...rare...uber expensively priceless pj collection... i guess its lucky for me that i usually buy...burn...pilfer doubles or triples of everything they have ever put out...all in retirement in safe, secure location away from her.....
Uh...hopefully all three of these paragraphs are jokes.
um...actually no... not at all... this is my life...why?
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...

it's clear that we need a support group for PJ fanatics with unsupportive significant others. maybe at least the mods would let us have a support sticky thread.
i am glad my wife at least is ok with me going to shows that are within a reasonable distance - like chicago this year. she doesn't "hate" PJ and tries to understand my obsession.
i am glad my wife at least is ok with me going to shows that are within a reasonable distance - like chicago this year. she doesn't "hate" PJ and tries to understand my obsession.
my boyfriend is the same way .. he thinks im nuts, but is supportive as he knows it is something that makes me really happy.
my wife likes PJ but just plain isn't a big fan of any music. she doesn't own a stitch of music (and that's a good thing because our house has only enough room for one outrageous collection). when driving, she mostly listens to npr or other talk radio. but she's seen them with me 4 times and is going to one of the 3 shows that i have tickets for in philly. she always enjoys the shows but mostly digs on the hits. i'm grateful that she understands my obsession. she doesn't bitch when the new PJ t's or onesies arrive for our 2 kids, and she only rolls her eyes when she sees the small box arrive on the porch every now and again. she already knows its another bootleg from ebay. i play a lot of boots and i catch her every now and again humming or singing along. perhaps all the sensory overload will eventually brainwash her to conform with my altered state of pearl jam on the brain.
My husband agreed to vacation in Chicago recently and go to both concerts, but then sat more than he stood. I'm only bringing him to one Philly show -- I'm going to the other three with another local female PJ fan whose husband is also happy to not have to go to all four concerts.
What does this band mean to my significant other?...that she will most likely be ignored for several days following 9/20. My wife didn't even know who PJ was in '98 when we started dating if you can believe that, we went to a show in '98 together but after that she showed no interest in their albums so I started taking my brother. :P She hates The Fixer, mainly because I quote it in my own way around the house, like, 'Hey Hon, you need to put a bit of stylin' on your hair' or 'You need to put a bit of practice on your cooking.'
She does like them, but is weirded out by my obsession. It means a ton more money & time spent on this band than any other "entertainment" we have!!! She hates how I want to start planning vacations around PJ tours. I think it's reasonable if they go back to announcing tours in a "normal" fashion. Pick a destination, vacation & top it off with a show!!!

My wife of 14 years hates Pearl jam and she blame it on me...lol She does like black and thats about it. She says she can't stand to hear Eddies voice anymore again she blames me for listening to them to much but I am cool with that gives me something to get her out of my hair for a bit when I spin a boot

My wife understands my passion for the band and enjoys the shows. She also is cool with the posters framed on the wall. Our first show together was Santa Barbara in 2003. My friend had a pair in the first row, and I had a pair in the 3rd row. I chose to use the ticket in the 3rd row to be with my wife, and my friend gave the first row ticket to another fan.
Our next shows were in Vancouver 2005 and the Gorge 2005..we drove from LA and had fun on the road trip together. She mentioned she loved the Vancouver show cause we had 6th row and she could see great cause we got aisle seats(thanks TC).
We saw 4 shows together in 2006(San Diego, LA1, LA2, Santa Barbara) and 3 of the Eddie West Coast solo shows(Santa Barbara, LA1, San Diego1). Just got back from Outside Lands and held the floor together there as well.
I asked her if she wanted to go all the LA shows this tour and she said yes..and San Diego cause we loved it there in 2006.
We see all kinds of bands together(U2, RHCP, Green Day, Audioslave/Chris Cornell solo, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Oasis..etc) but the Pearl Jam experience is the best and we always have good fan club seats which helps.
I guess I am lucky to have someone to go with shows with who I love and loves music..but is not quite as obsessive as I am..but digs the music none the less and can sing along with me...:-)

He's tolerant of ALL of the money I spend on PJ.......I just wish he wouldn't eject the CD's playing in my car in favor of the radio (only when I'm not in it)...He lets me drag him to a show or two per tour, but rarely will travel with me ( He's going to San Diego this time).....I really think he's fascinated that we can be so rabid about this whole experience...Luckily, I work with people who are as obsessed as I am, so we make our co-workers listen to 8 hours of PJ from our IPODS on Sunday.......The trade off is country, but 8 solid hours of PJ ..at work.......Yeah!!!!!

Holier than thou....how?
Surrendered...Executed any how........
I recently ended my 10 yr relationship so he's no longer significant. However, when he was, he hated my love for Pearl Jam. I don't think that he hated their music just the fact that I would drive 8 hrs to a show without thinking twice. He could never wrap his mind around the fact that I love their music not the pretty faces. Insecurity is bitch.
My current significant other could care less...but she's smarter than her predecessor which is suprising since I always heard Boxers are a rather stupid breed.
My husband likes Pearl jam *almost* as much as I do - he would be considered a pretty big fan though- I asked him to go to Hawaii about a week before a show and he gladly made it happen (we live in Philly so it was a HUGE trip) My hubby also became so inspired from Eddie's solo tour (2008) he ended up picking up a guitar, and later a Uke...he's pretty good too
For us it's like - "What Pearl Jam adventure are we going on next??" I'm so glad I don't have to explain my PJ spending habits to my significant other - and that he's always thrilled to go to shows. Most of the time we have our best friend along with us - He is a HUGE fan and really enhances my concert experience - it's always the three of us - I lucked out
My wife could not care less :? although she was willing to travel from NY to Chicago. Getting away from the house & kids for a few days was a good enough reason to allow me to go . Lucky enough to be in the 6th row center 1st night., his wife was going to the 2nd show. My friends I worked with in the fire dept. in NYC each had a pair for both shows. The 2nd night I went with the other friend, he took his wife the first night. So my wife had company each night & I got enjoy both shows! Thanks Brothers
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder, to find an approach and a way to live

My husband and I have basically switched places in regards to PJ.
He was HUGELY into them when we first met and I wasn't. I was a fan insomuch as they were a part of my teenage years, but I hadn't listened to anything since Yield, probably. (This was 2004) I taunted him mercilessly for being a fan...but he convinced me to go to a show with a friend for free. That was Camden I, 2006.
Cut to three years later and I have developed into the PJ lunatic and I think he is now actually tired of the band a bit. I think the level of our fandoms are directly proportionate or something. The more my love for them increases, the less interested he becomes. It's weird. But he is still into attending shows that are "reasonable"...meaning within a 5-7 hour drive. And when he is at shows, he definitely gets that look in his eye again so I know he still loves them. That is pretty much all I can ask for!
i think my sig other tolerates PJ for my sake .
Sure, she likes her 4 or 5 mainstream pearl jam " hits " ,..
but she wont be traveling a few hundred miles to see the boys
( like i might do in an instant )
i'll be lucky if she attends even a hometown show or two,
but when she does attend she always enjoys the shows , setlists , and
even some of the merchandise. ( posters )

My wife of 10 years loves Pearl Jam, but doesn't want to hit more than 1-2 shows a year and doesn't want to travel for them very far.
She's way more into the rockin' songs in concert, which seems strange to me based on what else she listens to.
All in all, she likes Pearl Jam, wants to see them live once per year, and tolerates my obsession fairly well.
your wife sounds very much like my husband of 17 years.
actually, my husband is the one to turn me onto pearl jam. i helped him 'rediscover' them, b/c pretty much after vitalogy he lost interest. he's traveled a bit with me for pj, but thus far no more than a 4 hours drive. tho if the hawaii show works with our vacation, we may well travel quite a bit. 3 shows defintely seems his limit....and nowadays, i think local shows only, or somewhere cool we've never been. he is extremely tolerant of my passions tho...i have traveled to western canada, europe 2x, all solo, to travel with friends and see pj....is a-ok with all the posters, etc. then again, i am tolerant/supportive of his passions as well, and music in general is a shared love and him being a musician himself makes it all the more fun. he's definitely a keeper .
My wife likes PJ to a certain extent. She likes their slower songs and some of their hits - Wishlist may be her all time favorite song of hers from any band. But, anything where Ed is yelling/screaming she can't stand. She has learned to appreciate more of their music b/c of me. If anything, I've definitely opened her ears to more than what she'd hear from them on the radio. She'll go to a local show from time to time. She absolutely loved Ed's solo album and loved his show in Newark.
She does think I spend way too much time obsessing with PJ though. She jokes with me all the time about it - and can always tell when I'm on one of the message boards. I don't buy posters, t-shirts, or other memorobilia, so she can't complain too much about it...
My wife's first 2 shows were MSG 1 and 2 last year....and I proposed to her the day of show #2. We'll be attending our first shows as a married couple when we hit up the Fri/Sat Spectrum shows.
She likes a bunch of their songs, and has become a decent fan. She'll never be a rabid fan, partially because she does doesn't hold music up to the same standards that I do. Still, she digs them and had a really good time at the shows last year.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

I gotta give my wife credit though, she traveled to Kitchener, Canada with me as well as to Mexico City. Although, she was working in Mexico at the time and really just wanted me to visit the country. But I think that travel thing is over for her.
She never seems that much into the merch...until we arrive at the show and she always buys something.
Funny thing, when we first started dating, I bought her a tape of TEN. If she didn't like it, who knows where we'd both be today!
My bf and I met because of our mutual love for Pearl Jam. We went out a few times but what really sealed the deal for me was when he burned me a copy of the 06 Gorge show for me, complete with colour-printed cover art and cds that looked like records! I knew he was a keeper after that.
Makes much more sense to live in the Present Tense.
