Well, I see all sides and points of view - they really could divide the masses: fans and haters..however i like Oasis, saw them this year again and they were actually rather good and it was a surprise to me that they were a lot more polite and normal compared to previous tours. Their new stuff: yes, it was good!

I am kinda sad about the news, but still...everyone with ears should know that Noel is the real genius and his vocals are way better than Liam's. I hope he won't waste his talent on mediocre songs in the future and returns with a great solo stuff.

  • if you take their "bigger than Jesus" comments seriously, of course you wont like them. theyre a bunch of punks, but you have to take the comments with a grain of salt. I've always found it hilarious.

musically, Liam was dead weight. and as far as Noel "getting out of the comfort zone" and "fulfilling potential," I hope he doesnt leave his comfort zone, which is being an incredible songwriter who creates songs best with just himself and a guitar, and has had to re-structure those songs for a full band and arenas over the past 15 years, and if you dont think he has fulfilled his potential, you need to listen to something other than the radio singles. Noel's b-sides are better than 99% of the "lead singles" other bands put out.

I'll give them a listen then, i never thought that he may have been out of his own comfort zone in the band. I feel I've come across a bit anti here, I don't hate Oasis I just gave up on them some time ago but it was certainly Liam that made me do so, then whenever I heard stuff on the radio it was just monotonous to me.

Noel has a lot of intereting stuff to say, I loved the way he openly just slated Glastonbury and Jay-Z, I think that took balls and he wasn't far wrong IMO.

do yourself a favor, go to itunes and download the Noel show called "The Dreams We Have As Children." listen to it and then report back with your thoughts.

Well, I agree that part of the reason the tickets took a long time to sell out was because the main headliner was not a rock act, but I have no problem with hip-hop (especially the way Jay-Z does it) on a live stage such as Glastonbury.

Jay-z is great... but Glasto is still Glasto. I've seen Pulp, Radiohead, Oasis, Prodigy, Doves, Bowie, Cure, Pumkins, and about twenty other groups headline that festival over the last 14 years... never thought I'd see a rapper.

  • I doubt this is a permanent split. He's quit at least 2 other times. I know one time they got another guitar player to fill in for a handful of European shows and he was back in the band when they got to America later that year. If it does wind up being for any length of time, I'd be interested to see what he does on his own. Liam's voice definitely lends a ceratin edge to a lot of Oasis songs, but Noel could sing just about all of them if he needed to so it's not like he's fucked on his own.

Their last first 3 albums and last 2 were excellent. The other 2 in between were ok, but nothing special. I think Noel got burned out writing all the songs and the songs the other guys have written are rarely as good as his. Liam's good stuff is very good, but his other stuff can fall anywhere between average and lazy.

ah man, Jay Z sucks, its fucking appalling, and takes the very essence away from Glasto.

Between the years 1994-2000 Glasto was the Festival to be at. It was life changing. These days its become a corporate entity for the hoorays from the city to take a few days away and be wild and crazy in a field. Its lost its identity for sure, people still love it but it no longer has the magic that made it great. It attracts the wrong crowd now. Trendys looking for the hippy experience. We even left early in 2004 the atmosphere was so shit.

I intereviewed Michael Eavis about 10 years ago and he was a legend, spent about 6 hours with us, took us all around the farm in his Land Rover and even gave us lunch. He was so eloquent and passionate about the festival and said he watched about 200 bands a year and chose all the bands on the main stages himself. His only regret was not getting The Grateful Dead and he spoke about old rock and stuff with such a passion. I didn't get the impression from him that he'd be keen to make it more dance, rap or metal orientated. He even said so much. I think now he's stopped doing it the people who have taken over are taking it a step further forward with the marketing.

I've got the dictaphone tape out just now, whilst writing this and he said about Oasis, "I don't value Oasis any more, I think they gone over now". He had them back in 2004 though.

I chatted to Michael in 1998 and 2000 also, not for quite as long. You are right though he came across as a remarkable kind of guy.

Sadly now hes handed over the running of the festival, its on the slippery slope to being just another corporate event, like V. Shame because Glasto was Fucking extraordinary.
