That sucks. I love Oasis. Not so much their new stuff, but their first couple albums were incredible, and the b-sides record they put out was great too. Oh well, no band can last forever.

Finally! It's about time. I've been waiting for this for a while. Now Noel can start that solo career and leave Liam and his fashion designing in your dust. Playing the same 15 songs for the last 15 years because he's too lazy to show up for soundcheck. Liam is nothing without Noel.

I can't wait to be sitting in a beautiful theater in Chicago watching Noel on stage...just him and an acoustic guitar.

    :?

Oasis where also my first musical love.got me into punk, which got me into 60's rock, which in turn got me into grunge.and just about everything in between.

although the thought of watching Noel alone with a guitar does sound good.

Wow...I mean, I only know ONE Oasis song (three guesses as to what it is ;) ), but damn, this is something I thought I'd never see. I was well aware of their feuding, but I thought it was just a brotherly thing, coupled with the stress of being in a band together. This is literally a jaw dropper for me.

Well, Liam is always bragging about how much of a genius he is, let's see how he does without his brother Noel writing the majority of the songs.

  • Noel IS Oasis. If anything, he should have fired Liam's ass. I bought Noel's live album off iTunes a few weeks back, and it's killer. I will buy the next Noel album before I buy the next Liam album, because Liam's will suck. Glad I saw them before the split, though.

Last time i posted about them i got in trouble, so i will have watch what i say. Oasis to me were everything was wrong about music. I would not even desribe them as a band in the last 8 years after they fired the others or they left, i think the best you could describe them as a duo. I have watched their careers closely but it has nothing to do with the music, it was all about the hype & slagging off others when they put out a album to deflect how average they were. Lets be honest Liam sounded like he had a rat running around his throat & Noel only had one note or riff he could play. But in the UK the music always takes second fiddle to celebrity & stupidity in the music industry. If anyone takes offence to this well just go & listen to Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar & then you may get my point. Music is beautiful thing but when it is hijacked for ego, self importance & over hyped wankers i just wished it didn't exist.

I can't believe anybody actually cares about them anymore. They'll probably shift a few more cds because of this then get back together again next week.

  • For those that are interested, here is a longer post from Noel from Oasis's website:

    29/08/09
"Dearly beloved, it is with a heavy heart and a sad face that I say this to you this morning.

As of last Friday the 28th August, I have been forced to leave the Manchester rock'n'roll pop group Oasis.

The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and band mates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.

I would like firstly to offer my apologies to them kids in Paris who'd paid money and waited all day to see us only to be let down AGAIN by the band. Apologies are probably not enough, I know, but I'm afraid it's all I've got.

While I'm on the subject, I'd like to say to the good people of V Festival that experienced the same thing. Again, I can only apologise - although I don't know why, it was nothing to do with me. I was match fit and ready to be brilliant. Alas, other people in the group weren't up to it.

In closing I would like to thank all the Oasis fans, all over the world. The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing (and I hate that word, but today is the one time I'll deem it appropriate). A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have a family and a football team to indulge.

I'll see you somewhere down the road. It's been a fuckin' pleasure.

    Thanks very much.

    Goodbye."

that's what i thought of when i saw this thread. didn't he say his throat hurt or something? and then he sat at the balcony drinking, smoking and heckling the band. i believe he eventually came down and sang, though, didn't he? i remember at the time thinking Noel didn't need Liam

True, they WERE really good in the heady days of 95. I gave botha listen recently and Definitely Maybe sounds pretty good still (with the exception of a couple of songs) but Morning Glory has dated very, very badly IMO. They were a one album wonder that got lucky but couldn't take it to another level and do something different.

Pearl Jam, Blur, The Clash, The cure etc had/have a certain longievity because they could create something new and interesting around the same sound. Oasis could not do that and 7 studio albums of the same old stuff is probably 5 more than they deserved. A British Nickelback.

I totally agree that they just repeated themselves on each album, i will say that the last 2 album were great. Also, their live show was lazy and ignored massive sections of their catalogue.

BUT, the Nickelback comparison is pretty harsh i think. One of the reasons Oasis songs all sound the same is cos Liam has fuck all range in his voice. Sure the songs sound the same, but each album has some gems on it. Noel has done some solo shows over the last 3 years, and theyre fantastic.

Noel was in that band for ten years too many...be interesting to see if he puts out some solo stuff!

check out To Be Where There's Life and The Turning from Dig Out Your Soul. great songs.

I wont miss Liam. Noel's solo shows were better than hearing Cigs & Alc for another 10 years.

some of the comments about oasis are about as ignorant as comments you often hear about pearl jam, such as "they've been irrelavant since the 90's", "grunge is dead", "i didn't even know they were still together", you get the picture. to dismiss oasis as a one-hit wonder, an english nickelback, or a beatles rip-off is just asinine. the band has been putting out albums and playing gigs for the past 15 years, and they've been pretty successful at it to say the least. as far as i know, they are still extremely popular in europe, and even in the states. just this past year they were playing amphitheaters and arenas in the U.S. now i'm not one to say popularity=good, but to have that many people want to see your shows and buy your records 13 years after your so called last good album was released counts for something. obviously they've made a lasting impression on their fanbase. this isn't creed we're talking about here.

the last album was pretty good by the way.

Now if only the rest of Oasis would quit Oasis. What a happy day that would be, indeed.

My Nickelback comment was not on the money, I admit. Actually, I was referring to something that was touched upon which was the lack of range in Liam's voice, as the bloke from Nickeback has, which made them sound monotonous. Oasis are far more relevant and worthwhile and always will be.

Oasis are, as you said, one of the easiest bands to make lazy comparisons about, like ignorant people do with Pearl Jam. However, I think that they brought it on themeselves by rarely getting out of the comfort zone and rarely moving on. And by being so bouyant and boastful about their own music which almost never lived up to the expectation they themselves generated around it.

It will be interesting to see how Noel tests himself now, maybe this is the impetus he needs to actually go and fulfil alot of the potential that, except for the odd moment over the last decade, has remained unfulfilled since WTSMG.

if you take their "bigger than Jesus" comments seriously, of course you wont like them. theyre a bunch of punks, but you have to take the comments with a grain of salt. I've always found it hilarious.

musically, Liam was dead weight. and as far as Noel "getting out of the comfort zone" and "fulfilling potential," I hope he doesnt leave his comfort zone, which is being an incredible songwriter who creates songs best with just himself and a guitar, and has had to re-structure those songs for a full band and arenas over the past 15 years, and if you dont think he has fulfilled his potential, you need to listen to something other than the radio singles. Noel's b-sides are better than 99% of the "lead singles" other bands put out.
