I find the Amphitheatre hit and miss... and I think this one was a miss.
I've been to at least 25 shows there in my life and some have sounded really good and some really muddy. For PJ I was 10th row dead center in the 200s and found it difficult to pick up songs as they begun.
    I don't get why it's so inconsistent. Perhaps it's not distortion friendly...maybe?

I was in section 101 and it sounded great there
  • I was 2nd last row in Section 103 near the aisle and I thought it sounded great.

The bass was pumping thru my heart nicely as well! ;)

the sonic properties at the amphitheatre are quite poor, as the venue's inconsistencies are the result of terrible sound travel the further away from the stage you are,...

way louder than any other PJ show ive been to.......all you could hear was mike, ed and matt playing as a trio

I have heard some similar complaints. It seems to be spotty. I thought the sound was great where I was. I have heard others say the sound was great too. Others swear it was awful where they were...

I was in section 203 row R, and honestly i had trouble recongnizing some songs at first. It was very muddy sounding.

I was in the same Sec row S (seats 6/7) and the sound was definitely spotty at times. I heard a strange rumour about some of the boys taking in a tour of Downsview Park on Sat - but I was lead to believe that was for next spring/summer.

That's interesting. I do recall the one-off festival that almost happened there back in 2007 (?) that fell through because of all the red tape involved with planning an even at that venue.

+1. Last time I saw Neil Young at Massey Hall, he did an acoustic thing for the first half of the show, and then a 'rock' half... it would be a dream come true to see Pearl Jam in that special, special venue doing it a la Neil.

So, I sent Pina at the Edge an e-mail with two guesses for this Monday morning announcement since she hinted in that blog that if you guess she might tell you ...

My two guesses were the two obvious things that have been discussed at length already....

Her reply to me is that I was very close but not exactly right ... the plot thickens....

I agree - Downsview is a nightmare venue in my mind logistically -- just passing along an interesting rumour which was given to me from an eyewitness.

All that for a listening party? :geek: Ugh, The Edge.
  • I just emailed Pina too...

I don't think she would say "we have a BIG Pearl Jam surprise coming your way.

Be sure to tune into The Dean Blundell Show Monday morning to find out the good news!!! You won’t wanna miss it….TRUST ME!!!"

unless it was something that a. has not been announced already (Backspacer listening party has and is THUS NOT A SURPRISE) and b. is something she thinks is amazing cause she is having Pearl Jam withdrawals...

If it is a contest, no big deal, she would not announce this in this way I don't think.

My money is on a Toronto show of some sort... I just really hope it is a concert that is not GA and that Ten Clubbers get tickets too!!!!!

I would love for it to be a gig at Massey Hall but I don't want any of this win to get in bullshit. Hopefully 10C will have tickets

ok ... just maybe ... they found out what scalpers were getting for the show ... they found out that they were still asking $300 for lawns an hour into the show ... combine that with great energy from the crowd and just maybe they regretted not playing 2 shows here like they did in chicago ... and just maybe that would make them want to come back ...

    a guy can dream ... :|

I hope your dream becomes reality.

From row 13 I could tell Eddie and the boyz really seemed to be enjoying themselves and Eddie, like the 2nd show at the ACC last time around, just seemed in awe of our singing at times.

I think they love it here and I think they will give Toronto a 2nd show whether that be part of a bigger North American tour or a special gig... now the question is, "Will we here some info from the Ten Club on Monday or earlier if it is, in fact, another show?"

realistically speaking tho - i don't really see the edge getting a jump on anything unless it's like for a show in december or something ...

hmmm not sure what to think of this. She used the word "surprise" which leads me to believe its a contest. Now if she use the word "announcement" I would be thinking it's a show

If by chance it is a show, there are a number of open dates at ACC or Massey Hall in October.Thinking they could squeeze T.O. in between San Diego and Philly.

a listening party for station listeners that won tickets to the show at the Amphitheatre took place a couple of hours before the concert at the venue,...

+1. Considering I'm in engineering and seem to have a midterm roughly every week, and the fact that I have trips to New York planned for the end of October and mid-November, a weekday show potential worries me. That said, I think the likelihood of a show in Toronto in the near future, as much as I want it, is quite minimal.
