I keep buying cds, I never embraced MP3s. I like having the artwork and the physical music. I don't see myself getting rid of them anytime soon.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

I sold all my CDs about 2 years ago. I have been purging all my possessions over the past 2 years in general. It feels amazing to get rid of things and make life as simple as possible.

i was wondering this the other night when i was putting all my cds in a box while organizing my room and making some space for my super NES.
I have an auxillery cable hooked to my stereo for my iPod.. i figued i could sacrifice the cds for space.

I'm moving into res at University tomorrow, and won't be bringing my CD collection. However, the collection itself is going nowhere. I LOVE having a CD shelf and like the poster a few up from me said, I pretty much know where everything is on that shelf. I'm alphabetical and then chronological, which makes things even easier. I love looking at friends' CD shelves, just such a conversation starter!

I will never give up having the physical item to appreciate the art work, liner notes etc.I haven't even got rid of my vinyl, yet I haven't had a turntable for years.

I am moving to Canada and my partner wants me to consider converting my 2000 c.d collection to digital then sell them.I can't do it so they'll be shipped over. :D
They'll be got rid of when I'm no longer here .... not before.

Holy shit, 2000? I thought I had it bad! I think I'd like to get down to 150 or so like someone above. That seems a reasonable amount.

  :o Yeah 2000 ..... my partner has a 5000 collection many are doubles of my collection.Thats why he thinks it's ok for me to sell mine!!!!!
But its MY collection gathered over many many years ....and no matter what they will always be mine.So they are getting shipped and he will have to make space in his music room for my collection to join his along with his drum kit and guitars  :ugeek:
And I store alphabetically then chronologically by release date ...... yes I am weird :D

I often think about selling my entire cd collection.....95% of them haven't been listen to in years. I am attached to my REM cd/vinyl/memorabilia collection, as well as all of my Simpsons tzatzkes, but I don't think I'd regret getting-rid of my cds. There is a fella in L.A. who will come to your home/office and buy huge cd collections.

I don't know if I'll get rid of the CDs but just about all of them have gone onto the ipod, and I'm seriously considering boxing them up and putting them somewhere besides the living room where I'm realizing they just take space and gather dust. Anything that frees up some prime space in our very small house is good in our situation.

I will never get rid of my cds in favor of mp3s/etc. Why? SOUND QUALITY. While CDs have their own fidelity limitations...compared to mp3s they are heaven.

Also, I think anyone who gets rid of their discs and plans on keeping all of their music on their iPod/hard drive is absolutely insane. I don't care if you back everything up: s**t happens. If I lost all of my music I would be crushed. It sounds good (no pun intended) on paper until you have a power surge.

    Don't do it!

    No way.

Although I do appreciate the space saving of downloaded music I hate the way itunes will not let me share it.

Plus, if I had downloaded the new Black Crowes I wouldn't have gotten the cool sticker.
