I hope I never get over how fantastic that night truly was.
I'm watching Ed in the booth with Len and Bob after the 7th Inning Stretch. His singing was not so great Tuesday night at the game - I think the UC shows left him a little scratchy!
Len Kaspar is a big fan. It's refreshing to hear their banter - just a couple of guys who appreciate what each other does. No pretense, no sucking up, just genuine good vibes.0 -
Ok thoughts from a non-drinker who likes to toke it up at shows when I can. I make a judgement call based on my surroundings on whether or not i'm going to smoke. I was low down in 114 for these shows and although I came armed and dangerous I just never really felt the need to pull it out. However, when I do smoke at shows I realize that (outside of the west coast) it's still very much illegal and offensive to lots of people. If someone asks me to stop smoking around their child, I can assure you i'm not going to argue and it's going to be put right out. I wasn't there and didn't see it so I dunno about this specific situation. Point is this, if you smoke at a show (especially indoors) be conscious of those around you, blow the smoke straight up in the air, and if someone tells you it's bothering them, cut it out. I just didn't really think these shows were very "pot-friendly". If these had been at Alpine Valley...well...that might have been a different story. The last PJ shows I saw were the three in San Francisco in '06 and not only was 99% of the crowd smoking, they had homemade cookies and gummy bears for us to eat after the show! So I can see where someone visiting from the west coast might not know exactly how to handle it in the midwest. I just moved back here and i'm still getting used to it being all on the DL again.0

Another night, another mind-blowing show. My seats were great... section 120, row 15 (member #164xxx), which was one section and four rows closer than Monday night's show.
My wife took a few cool videos during the show on our camera. She knows that I give 100% of my energy/attention to the band, so she worked the camera all night. Isn't she the best? I gave her the "take video now" nudge once the first drum beats of In My Tree started (my favorite). She also caught the end of Fuckin' Up when Ed put on a wig thrown on stage by a fan, and Mike's Star-Spangled Banner finish to the night. Enjoy!

Went to Monday night only. All I can say is what an incredible performance and setlist. I am honored to say I was at that show. It had the feel of a real special night. Thanks PJ for your awesomeness!0

Yeah, exactly. Just don't go out of your way to make others uncomfortable. That's not cool whether the subject is smoking, drinking, whatever. I don't smoke anymore (weed or cigarettes), but it doesn't bother me and I personally don't care if the whole building smokes up as long as no one is intentionally being an asshole about it by blowing smoke in your face, or in my case a few years ago, on the back of my head.
Or the drunk dude who threw up his nachos all over me at a Metallica concert once. That guy failed to score points with his girlfriend that night.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I thought both nights were awesome but I do agree that night 2 was better. It seemed like night 1 (even though it was awesome in itself) was just a build up to night 2-- in much the same way that the first notes of Corduroy start off slow but then when the "The waiting drove me mad," part comes up, it seems like the crowd, the band, and everything else is making enough noise to blow the roof off.
I have seen them 7 times now and I just love the setlists-- tonight was no different. It wasn't that I got to hear songs that I never heard before live or anything like that (although that was awesome), but I just love how the setlists are put together-- one minute you feel like you are going to pass out if you jump around jamming too much longer, and the next they hit you with a song like Nothingman where you can just nod your head along and have a drink.
I always feel bad for the people who must be first timers because the stage will go dark and Eddie will say thank you and the band will go off stageto take a break and they will start heading for the exits because they think it is over. Then they have to turn around half way and rush back because things are starting again. The secret is to watch for the guys coming up on stage to switch out guitars, etc.
I was glad to hear the drum solo during Even Flow. I heard it at either Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza before and I was hoping it would happen on night 1, but it was saved for night 2. It was a great show-- I can't think of anything I would rather do than go to a Pearl Jam show.0 -

Great time all around, my 1st time in Chicago and to get 2 amazing shows....wow. Hard to Imagine was tight, and is such a great opener. Too many great performances to mention. 2nd night I had better seats, as I think everyone else had. Energy was a bit better imo. Great Memories all around
