nah. i've had enough of that. Pearl Jam is a great live band. this song wouldn't work at all with that either.

Alright, alright, that's not the way I should word it. First off, more power to anyone and everyone who likes The Fixer. Good for you. And I really mean that because it's great when a new song comes along that you really like...be it by Pearl Jam, another band you really like, or someone you never listen to. But I just think this song is fucking horrible.....

Not just horrible, but really one of the gayest and most annoying songs I've ever heard. And I don't say that because I expect every new Pearl Jam song to blow my mind and I'm pissed because this didn't....hell I really like Got Some, Supersonic, and Speed of Sound a lot. If any artist recorded The Fixer, I'd hate it. It's just unbelievably bad, cheesy and POPPY. Yes people, "poppy" is bad when you're a hard rock band. "Catchy" is great. Corduroy is a perfect example of a "catchy" hard rock song. But The Fixer is true cheeseball pop. I would never play this song for someone and say "This is Pearl Jam" because they'd think I'm a dude who listens to crappy, generic rock music. The Fixer is like Third Eye Blind-level lame.

And I want to note that I've listened to The Fixer twice as wrote this just to make sure I should really submit such a hater-like post. And I've decided....YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!

Yet for some reason I think it'll be tolerable live.

Just one man's opinion about ONE song

    OUCH !
    Respect for your opinion !
Beavis : Is this Pearl Jam?
Butt-head: This guy makes faces like Eddie Vedder.
Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
    Butt-head: Well, they both suck.

I know I know I know. I really just couldn't put in a more proper way. Perhaps since this is public forum, I should have said "It's the fruitiest song I've ever heard" to avoid using words like that. But I was shootin' brother! Ya dig? Tryin' to keep it real. I know if you, mfc2006, were sitting in my living room with me the day The Fixer was released, I would have turned to you and said "this is the gayest bullshit I've ever heard in my fucking life." Then I'd pass ya the bowl.

i have a feeling this song will not age well...i heard it the other day and was already kinda bored of it

thankfully, it sounds like the rest of the album is amazing so it won't bother me if the fixer is the lame song :D

Lyrically, I do think I will grow tired. But musically, at least to play on my guitar at home, I will not. I have a ton of fun playing this song. I can't get the verse riff out of my head and when I pick up the guitar, it's the first thing I play to warm up the fingers. It reminds me of my affinity for RVM. When that came out I would play that riff to warm up.

I really hope that one day I'll get the chance to see PJ live in South-America because the crowd over there looks really fantastic ! It's filled with such an power, devotion, they seem to be gratefull to be a part of a fantastic gig !!!

oh i think it's a fun song and i love that the guys did it and i do reserve all of my comments until i've heard the album...i like to judge songs in the context of the album instead of hearing on the radio at a random time

but as has been said, it should be pretty kickass live :D

i agree totally, but for some reason the vid bothers me less than the song. the song itself is a little better too (a little rawer and no fade!). it will be fine live (without the poppy production values), but every PJ song is fine live. I just dont see how the video is so Un-Pearl Jam to people. i guess its the camera angles and the Jesus Christ pose, which he does all the time!

I agree that the song does sound better in that video. I'd rip it to an mp3 if there wasn't that "crowd noise."

Again, using "gay" or "fruity" when meaning gay is bigoted and not appropriate here. Do not do this again.

Not to cause any trouble with this, cause I agree with what you said, but just for clarifications sake - Could one still use the word fruity? - Excessively sentimental or sweet. (dictionary definition).

The Fixer is excessively sweet, therefore "The Fixer is fruity" in a very, very good way :D

    lets see...

option one: young, attractive, excited crowd jumping and cheering.

option two: 30something crowd of bored onlookers waiting for a rare b-side who take pee breaks during Even Flow and complain of crowd surfing and GA audiences.

    How about NO CROWD?

without a crowd it'd be a foo fighters video.

anyway, i like the fixer a lot - i dont listen to the radio because DJs do my head in, but i've heard it a few times off this website's homepage and frankly, i like it a lot.

the video is charming in a way... looks happy and bouncey which is a nice change from a slow camera pan across eddie looking like he's about to slap someone. not that i don't love the idea of vedder slapping someone, but ya know.

and who cares if it's a video shoot? i've been to video shoots before. they're hard work. they told us to wear black and to jump up and down a lot. they told us to move that way. move this way. doesn't make the band any less of an artist for having control over the crowd in their music video. geez. we're just not happy unless everything looks miserable?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-XGKS4gXQk <--free beer was provided. good times had by all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKOcnDhwDAQ <--pearl jam related.. this was filmed the night after the final 7 worlds collide gig that eddie was at... betchadupa invited people who were milling about afterwards to be in their video. we went. free food/beer etc. and we got to meet liam and ask him about ed. yes.

Bon Jovi called. They want their video back.

The video looks like it has been edited by a high school kid. Great song and the potential for a great video, but it's been destroyed in the editing room.

I guess Cameron Crowe needs to go back to film school ? ;-)

Yeah, that dude's a hack. twojawas should have edited it, would have been so much better

In all honesty, I could have edited that footage better than what's been done. Crowe didn't necessarily do the editing as he was the 'director' of the clip which is a distinctly different role than editor. Obviously it was his vision though.

I think they tried to do something unique, but it didn't work. That's always the risk when you try something different, isn't it?

Crowe's never made a mistake though, has he? Wait ... have you seen Elizabethtown? Ouch.

    Great song. Horrible video.
When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
    Chasing something in the night.
