now we know why they banged out this album so quickly....doesn't seem like Ed invested too much time in the lyrics..."fun song"...isn't that what people said about the fixer?

I have a feeling Riot Act & Binaural will get more love after Backspacer is released...at least by certain fans who aren't as big on "pop/fun" type songs.
I think the lyrics are perfect. What is it you want out of this band??? Sorry if it isn't a depressing political song, if thats what you looking for. Fun songs shouldn't have deep lyrics.

Did you think the lyics to Ten sucked? They pumped that album out in two weeks.

Seriously, I agree with LikeAnOcean. I don't think there are anything wrong with the lyrics. Only song that I'd complain about lyrically would be The Fixer. Even with those two songs, there's 9 other songs.

As a fan you should know that Pearl Jam is constantly change/evolving from one album to another.

And maybe I spent too much time on this board, but evertyime there's a new song there's a handful of people who come out and bitch about how bad it sucks.. and then a few week's later, 90% of them like it or think its ok..

I don't like Just Breathe from what I've heard, but there is nothing constructive about me coming out and bitching about it. It may grow on me, and if not, I hope others enjoy it..

The "oh god, this song and lyrics sucks" is an opinion I understand, but a very childish one to comment with. Bitching about a song doesn't rewrite the song. Skip to the next track if you think its bad.

if someone doesn't like it a particular song don't get so offended by it it's their opinion. I don't think it's a great song either although I love the breakdown. Overall I do like what I've heard on Backspacer especially the slower songs.
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

don't try to put your words in my mouth...why the fuck do people think a song has to be either light & fun or depressing & political?? like there isn't a trillion miles of middle ground....i'm not looking for a repeat of any album...i am looking to hear Pearl Jam break new ground not make "me too" or "tip your hat"songs...but hey that's just me...and i am entitled to form my own opinion whether you agree with it or not...and when someone voices an opinion that is contrary to your own it doesn't automatically qualify as "bitching", just so you all know.

I don't like Just Breathe, but is there any point to me stating that? No. It just makes me seem like a baby, trying to ruin on everyone elses parade.. like I said, its just music. Skip to the next track if you're not satisfied.

Immagine if you wrote a song you were really proud of, logged onto a message board and had people telling you it sucked. Or painted a painting, or designed something..

If its not your cup of tea. understand that, and move along to the next cup.

Sorry. Didn't mean to put words in your mouth. Just trying to understand where you are coming from. I really like the lyrics.

That might be my favorite song so far!.. Are you not a fan of the Ramones??? do you not like punk???

Are you being sarcastic? I'm trying to figure this out because your statement confuses me. That song ROCKS!!!

Definately sounds good on the record....should have been the opener in my opinion

I like it, it has a b-sid kind of feeling, but that doesn't mean is a bad song.

    Why not (V) (°,,,,°) (V) ?
  • What people don't get, is with music is it's all been done before, breaking new ground isn't really possible. There are only so many chords, drum beats and words to go by. It's limited. You twist it, you evolve with it, but every song has an influence and then a moment of just being it's own. People apparently are hearing the roots of the song, but then not getting past it and actually hearing the song.

All one can hope as a musician, is to make a sound and a flow that is pleasing in someway, to someone. Even if it's just to myself... and what amuses me musically might not be what amuses the next guy.

Unless you want someone in the band to pull out a saw blade and a violin bow in the song, well then we might see something different.

Like it or don't like it, music is subjective. I think a fool would attempt to please all of the people all of the time. What fantastic music would never be heard if that was actually attempted.
  • is it time to change that backdrop...yet?

Agreed and it repeats the same two chords/rythm later in the song as well that are identical to Mankind. I thought the same thing the first time I heard it.
  • I dont understand how people can hold such strong opinions on a shitty recording from the first ever live performance of a song. Ill wait to the album drops
