Backspacer and Avocado

Obviously I haven't heard it yet, but the runtime sortof gives avocado an advantage just because there's more PJ on it.
i respectfully disagree with your logic.
it's about quality, not quantity.
what does it matter if one album is longer than another if you flat out dont like it?0 -
the heavyhanded, obvious lyrics from S/T in songs like WWS, Unemployable, and Army Reserve are gone in Backspacer, so its already better than S/T. those songs already make Avocado sound dated. They are pretty much just Ed singing words out of a newspaper.
i get that some people like that 'style' of songwriting, but i am certainly not one of them.0 -

Avacodo is more direct and in your face.....
Absolutely no jamming on backspacer...all short songs......short choruses, short hooks....NO JAMS......
Cant compare either of the 2 to the almighty Vitalogy......or its older brother VS.....THOSE ARE CLASSICS THAT BELONG ON THE TOP, TOP SHELF!
I just heard Supersonic.....clearly there is a jam in the middle of this song. :?0 -
If you call that a jam....you shld be listening to Green Day!0
-
dude...thats definitely a jam. a microjam!"P-E-A-R-L J-A-M is priceless to me."0

A jam is basically most of 10
Present tense, NAIS, immortality.....etc etc....THOSE ARE JAMS!
NOT NO 20 SECOND BRIDGE RYTHMATIC SOLO!0 -
Well I guess it depends how you look at it. See this is how I see it:
Backspacer is like condensed PJ. Its a shorter album, it has a more minimalist feel, and even Ed has said that there were a number of times where they trimmed the excess off of the tracks as they were working on them. So this is a PJ album for the 21st century- short, fast, and to the point. The jam in Supersonic is reflective of that. That's my two cents, but I haven't heard the whole album"P-E-A-R-L J-A-M is priceless to me."0 -

And for the record i loved Avocado...a nice improvement over Binaural and Riot Act.
Have you heard the new album, b/c I've heard nothing from it that says its gonna be as great as Binaural.
Nope haven't heard it...and i never said it was "as great as Binaural". I said i prefered Avocado to Binaural.
I honestly dont get all the love for Binaural. Granted the "sessions" were amazing, but the band left off most of the great songs (Sad, Fatal, Education, Puzzles & Games), and the production on Grievance does not do it justice.
agree, the songs you mention above should've been in the album instead of 3 o 4 they chose, like sleight of hand, rival or parting ways0 -
you just picked three of the best tunes from the album! hell, sleight of hand is one of the bands best songs ever!0
-
Parting Ways too. i know both are pretty popular around here, too, so it makes sense to have them on there. dont care for Rival though.0
-
If I had to get rid of one song on Binaural, it'd be "Soon Forget".
It's a nice little ditty and it sounds good in its placement, but it's the most "throwaway" track on the album. I even really like "Evacuation" and "Rival", so I wouldn't get rid of those songs. And you can't get rid of "Parting Ways", it's the perfect closing song! And "Sleight of Hand" is awesome!
But isn't this supposed to be about the self-titled?0 -
avocado was loud and angry?
really?
is there a different avocado than the one i've been listening to the last 3 years?
i love people sitting back and judging what they think backspacer will sound like as a whole before it's even released. give me a break. check back with me in late september fraud.www.myspace.com0 -

MARK MY WORDS...THER ARE GOING TO BE ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE AVOCADO MORE AFTER THEY HEAR BACKSPACER!
Im spinning Avocado now....................
PJ sounds lame and old when they try to be loud and angry on album anymore. They're not the Ramones and every attempt to be looks pathetic. Since they won't channel their anger into real enjoyable anthemic rockers anymore like they did on Ten-Vitalogy, I'll take them being soft and delicate over the crappy punk/artsy stuff they tried on RA and s/t. At least they feel more natural doing the Neil Young acoustic thing than they do playing the Sex Pistols. But then, No Code is my fav album, so I've always dug their more brooding side than their righteously angry side.0 -
