Apparently you are the fella who has heard the whole album, but from what I have heard which are just their officially released stuff, The Fixer, Got Some, Speed of Sound and the little snippet of Just Breathe and so far I find it far superior to avocado and I really love that album.

I cannot friggin' wait for it. What is your favorite song from the new album, I am curious.

I don't know.. I LOVE Avocado, but judging by Ed's solo performances, Unthought Known and Speed of Sound are better than anything off of it.. I get that, that it's an angrier album, but the song writing seems better on Backspacer so far.

    Better than Severand hand/come back/marker/inside job/unemployable?

The opening 4 mins of INSIDE JOB pretty much torches Backspacer

I can see I'm going to like Backspacer more than you.. I never liked Comeback. Severed Hand is OK.. The highlights of that album for me are Life Wasted, Marker in the Sand, Unemployable and Army Reserve.

Substitute Gone for Comeback and you've got my least favorite songs on S/T. I'm glad you don't think i'll like Backspacer!!

If your looking for a record that jams, and rocks...BACKSPACER is not gonna fill that void....if you like the slow poppy type if ITW shit, then its right up your alley....

As for me my fav record of all time is VITALOGY so you know where i stand

Judging from the samples, Backspacer seems like a more "interesting" album, but it definitely doesn't seem like it's gonna have quite as many uptempo tunes, but Avocado doesn't really sound mean loud and angry to me.

I'm more excited for this one after hearing a song or 2, but I was a little outta the PJ loop for S/T. I still dig several tunes off the album. I think they overdid the unmelodic punk tunes with RA and kinda cut back on it for S/T, just not enough for my liking. If they woulda chucked Big Wave and Comatose it woulda been alot better.

    Mach271, your honest opinion..

Are you not that impressed with Backspacer because is less aggressive? Less edgy?

So far, to me at least, it sounds really catchy, fun, light. The music is less complicated, but in a good way.. It's the kind of music that reminds me of being a child on Saturday mornings.

Is saying Avocado blows it out of the water an exaggeration?

If I like the Police, The Ramones, will I also like Backspacer better?

Avocado is very dear to me, but I've heard some amazing stuff from Backspacer. I'm REALLY excited for this album.

Will do. Actually, though, I've generally appreciated PJ albums more once the next one is released. So i do see S/T eventually finding a better place in my heart.

    Is Force of Nature uptempo?

note: Vitalogy is my favorite as well. S/T may have rocking tunes but they sound like they are coming from a completely different place than Vitalogy.

Backspacer is more like a fluffy piece of art.....

Avacodo is more direct and in your face.....

Absolutely no jamming on backspacer...all short songs......short choruses, short hooks....NO JAMS......

Cant compare either of the 2 to the almighty Vitalogy......or its older brother VS.....THOSE ARE CLASSICS THAT BELONG ON THE TOP, TOP SHELF!

Avocado had very poor production, and had poor songs (with the exception of Army Reserve, Unemployable, Marker and Come Back). It's not gonna be too hard for Backspacer to own its arse. ;)

My favourites are No Code - Yield - Binaural

Agree with you 100%, nothing will compare to the two V albums.

Eddie's a folk hero now and I think now more than ever Eddie is control of the the band's direction...so quieter songs are to be expected. Back in 1994, Stone probably thought to himself "Eddie's a dick for trying to take over the band and never wanting to use my ideas." But now he probably thinks, "Thank god Eddie has taken over the band and has all these ideas we could use."

I think PJ realized their best albums start with that letter and that's why the put the V up on a pedestal for Yield.

Call me a sceptic, but how do we know this guy has actually heard Backspacer? I've seen so much crap on the various message boards the past few weeks that i really don't buy that he's heard it.

And for the record i loved Avocado...a nice improvement over Binaural and Riot Act.
