They should not repeat a song for Philly

They should play all 4 shows without repeating a song, like Boston 2003...but 4 shows.

Think about it, on average they could play 10 songs from each album = 90 +
For non-albums and b-sides they have to have at least another 40 = 4 shows

Plus it would get me to finally see Breakerfall live, that's the only reason I'm saying this.

it could be done. but i don't think it will be. more power to the band if they pull it off, but they would probably have to do some longer soundchecks and rehearsals to prepare some songs that have gotten a little bit dusty.
words seem so out of place.

It's probably better not to develop any lofty expectations for these shows, they're already never going to live up to the hype. After the mouth-watering going on, people aren't going to be satisfied until Soundgarden open with a two-hour set every night followed by four nights of no-repeat Pearl Jam, the final night being closed by Dave Abbruzzese and Ed playing Angel.

Can't they just play four normal shows, a bit of variety each night to keep everyone interested, and have people be happy with that?

People seem obsessed with making these the shows of the band's career - there's going be a lot of disappointed people on November 1st.

What's worse is that those disappointed people will rush to post on here and lay blame on the band for not living up to their impossible expectations.
  • they are touring to promote a new album....there is no fucking way that they won't repeat certain songs over a 4 night stretch.

and 4 shows in 5 nights....i could never be disappointed no matter what the set lists are...long as they throw some Binaural up in there i'll be a very happy man!!

They could sing the theme song to Sesame Street as the closing song to 10/31 and I would be happy. We are blessed with freakin Pearl Jam 4 out of 5 nights!!! Heck, if Ed gargled his wine into the microphone, I would be cool. I am just so grateful for this band coming to Philly and giving us so much

This happens on every tour. MSG shows, Gorge shows, the Borgata shows.......they all have so much incredible hype, people always come away disappointed. The band could go out and play a great 2.5 hour show, tight, rocking setlist, and someone would complain that they didn't play a rarity or didn't play 35 songs.

Expect to see 4 great shows. There will be repeats. The best part about it is that you'll get to hear a lot, if not all of Backspacer live. It's going to be great.

It would be 4 night's of pure magic. All video taped for an amazing Bluray Box Set Experience! Though I doubt It will be released by Christmas, but a March release would be sweet!

    LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!

I agree with you to an extent. When a show gets so much hype, the people attending the shows are going to try to make it the best damn show ever, as a result we get an incredible show. The last 2 MSG shows had so much hype (given by me as well) and I was not disappointed at all. People bitched about the setlists, but the actual atmosphere of those shows were like none other.

They can play just 4 normal shows, but I'm just giving insight on something that would be cool. For the comment that they HAVE to repeat with a new album...Boston 2003, Riot Act just came out....Didn't repeat a song, and the 3rd show they played an acoustic set before and then a 3 hour show after.

  • As cool as it would be for this to happen, I just dont see it. The situation is very different from 03 Boston, yes on both tours they are still promoting an album, but in 03 every song they played over those 3 nights had already been played on the tour that year. If pearl jam was to pull off this feat in philly, it would take A LOT of rehearsing to getting all the songs down, so i just dont see it happening.

  • I agree. I hope they play thier entire catalogue. And no repeats. Boston 3 had a couple songs repeated. Im going to all 4. No way I would ever miss this historic event. I just need 1 ticket for night 3 if anyone has one.

That's a great idea!!!!! Knowing I'm only going to the last show of the 4, it would be nice to at least have the DVD of the first 3 shows.

I'm pretty sure it's possible. They already have 4 closers: Yellow Ledbetter, Rockin in the free world, Baba o'riley and Sonic Reducer (for the last night of course).

I don't know - figure 30 songs max each night, right? So 120 songs... I think after the shows between now and then they could do 120 songs no problem. Figure 8-9 songs off the new album will be played so you're at 110-112 songs they need to play. I think that would be pretty easy when you factor in cover songs, b-sides, etc, etc.

I dont think it will happen, but it definitely could!

Quit trying to be like Boston? Don't you mean Mansfield? I was at the third show in 2003, and it definitely was not in Boston! It's a good 40 miles outside of Boston. It's actually much closer to Providence RI.
