since i'm only going to saturday's show... i hope they don't do this
i don't soil myself when they break out a rare song
sorry
this made me laugh!
and yes, i agree. we're not all going to all 4 shows. i am doing friday/saturday, and even that...i'd be more than happy to hear certain songs each night. so you bet, feel free to break out other side, wash, i got shit, oceans.....each night. no complaints here.
I'd rather they not. What people forget is that the majority of the people at the shows are not fan club members and playing more obscure setlists may make us happy but would kill the energy in the room.
Just let them play whatever they want to play and I'll enjoy it as will everyone else.

They can do both. They can split the new album over each night, they can split the popular songs over each night, they can split the rarities over each night. I discuss this topic a little more in detail on this thread: http://community.pearljam.com/viewtopic ... 5&t=113237
The Wachovia show in 2005 had plenty of rarities and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. I think that since Philly is like the center of the PJ universe, there will be more hardcore fans there than normal.

This would be amazing but considering I am going to 2 of the 4 nights I want to be able to hear most of the new album. No repeats means I would hear maybe 2-3 new ones. The rarities would be awesome but I'm psyched about Backspacer right now.
They have the means to do this, but probably not the desire. I'd love four shows with zero repeats, of course, but they are going to want to focus on Backspacer material (which I am OK with) and probably Ed will do his strings thing (not my cup of tea, as argued in another thread ... Better gimmick than backup singers, mind you). I can maybe see a cool opener or two (Wash, Oceans?), and ideally there will be at least a few more tour debuts. I have had fun just watching for tour debuts. SLC was great for this. By the time Philly rolls around, there might not be too many songs to debut that the band is in fact willing to play, though. I am not optimistic that we'll get any Riot Act or Yield bustouts. Hopefully I'm wrong.
It's probably better not to develop any lofty expectations for these shows, they're already never going to live up to the hype. After the mouth-watering going on, people aren't going to be satisfied until Soundgarden open with a two-hour set every night followed by four nights of no-repeat Pearl Jam, the final night being closed by Dave Abbruzzese and Ed playing Angel.
Can't they just play four normal shows, a bit of variety each night to keep everyone interested, and have people be happy with that?
People seem obsessed with making these the shows of the band's career - there's going be a lot of disappointed people on November 1st.

Please no wash, Philly is "washed" out. I am all for Oceans!
I've noticed a disturbing trend? what happened to No Way and Brother? Two songs I was sure we would get at least one night in Philly, have disappeared from the setlists. Let's hope they bust them out tonight at LA4!

They will play them this weekend. They actually soundchecked No Way tonight before the show. Ed said that by 2AM Saturday night they will have played every song they know.
