Before I start: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/racism please educate yourself before you call me a racist. If you still feel so inclined that's your right.
I don't understand why this is a race issue. Overwhelmingly the black response towards Vick is that it's no big deal. In my OPINION it has got to be a race thing. I know black people love pets and animals as much as any other people. The only thing I can think of is that the image of predominately white authorities persecuting a black man, (for right or wrong), stirs up very bad feelings and memories for African Americans, especially in the south. For me this theory partially explains the rejoice in some black communities of O.J. Simpson's 1995 acquittal.
If this is the case it worries me that there is still so much of the "us against them" mentality. In my opinion Vick is a disgusting human being regardless of race. But this country's first reaction to any issue is usually to sink into race/religion or some other polarizing group and to ignore the real issue.
N.B. I realize that I am generalizing and this isn't everyone.

are you saying there are still race issues in america? but our president is "black". seriously though, i agree with you. if there is a chance for something to be race motivated, it is portrayed that way. here is a horrible example

2. He served his time.
3. If the NFL and the Eagles want Mike Vick to play football again, no one can stop it.
Let people protest, let advertisers boycott, let fans not buy tickets. The Eagles did their homework and decided to accept the risk.
Bottom line is: He did his time. Let the guy earn a living and get on with his life.
The poison from the poison stream caught up to you ELEVEN years ago and you floated out of here. Sept. 14, 08
Best line in this thread.
Seriously though race in America will always be an issue both sides can see things differently as such in this MV case. They're whites that will defend and they're blacks that will think of him as 10 year old bile. However, I gaurantee you that if Vick ever gets to start and he brings his team to victory hardly of the his teams fans will be booing. I'm sure those fans consist of BOTH black and white people.

You hit this one right on the head.
This is how America works. Michael Vick is not responsible for the light punishment for his crime. The Legislative and Justice systems are the responsible parties that work out penalties and punishment. If people are so upset about the punishment not fitting the crime... they should DO something about it... writing to your Senators and Congressman is a good place to start.
..
Personally... I can't stand Michael Vick... and never did. I like pure passers, in the model of Payton Manning or Dan Marino... rather than a running back that can throw. And the dog killing stuff, too. I'm not a Michael Vick supporter... and I hope the Giants defense kicks his sorry ass.
Hail, Hail!!!
Of course as with nearly everything, this isn't everyone, but a large percentage.
I don't have the answer. Nor do I have the answer why many people would vote in corrupt mayors and re-elect felons simply because they are black (washington dc, memphis, detroit)
Or why they would fanatically defend OJ Simpson.
Or why they would defend Henry Louis Gates for that matter.
Or why... you get the picture.

He may have did his time (not enough). And he needs to earn a living, but not play having the privliege of getting paid to play a sport. That is a privliege my friend and a convicted criminal should not have it. He can earn money a million other ways. He ALSO should not be allowed to possibly be a roll model athlete to children.
People say.." oh he made a mistake". Doing something thats wrong for SIX years is not a mistake, its calculated sir and its fucked up!" A person who can tourcher and kill animals has someting wrong in their head. ****Do you know they used to go into neighborhoods and STEAL peoples domesticated pets and use them for bait for fighting dogs? The dogs would tear them into pieces.
Anyone who defeds this fucking scumbag is a piece of shit in my book.
Sweep the Leg Johnny.
Sweep the Leg Johnny.
what the hell is reverse racism...? isn't racism just racism...?
White racism against black people isn't warranted. Black racism against white people is justified.
they get them from 'free to good home' ads, too :(

I am going to venture to say that they are as equally racist. I think you would run in to the same thing if you were black and living in Forsythe County, Georgia. I'm not saying it's right... it is wrong. Racism is a negative aspect of human behaviour... leastwise, in my opinion it is.
As for Michael Vick... I still say he has gone through the American justice and correctional systems and is back on the street. I am not going to judge him either way because it is not my task. But, I will say this... I would feel the same way if it were Payton Manning, Tom Brady or Joe Montana, instead of Michael Vick. I would still feel that the crime was horrible and the penalty too easy... and I would not like them as people based upon their character. If football is Vick's chosen profession... who am I to deny him? It is up to the employers, not me.
Hail, Hail!!!
It is not up to the courts or you or me to decide whether he plays in the NFL or not... it is up to the Owners that decide to hire him.
As for him being a Role Model... if a kid looks to ANY one other than a parent as a Role Model... what does that tell you about that person as a parent?
Hail, Hail!!!
Well said. He regrets being caught, not what he did.
I guess I must be a piece of shit then.
The guy went to prison for two years for his indiscretions.
Playing in the NFL is no different than any other profession in the country. Owners hire the best people to do the job. It's not a privilege. It's a job.
I love the fact that people want to come down on Michael Vick like he killed somebody, when a guy like Dante Stalworth, well, he, he actually... oh yeah...HE ACTUALLY KILLED SOMEBODY! Yet there is no uproar about him.
He can't play in the NFL for a year, but Vick, who went to prison, he shouldn't ever be allowed to work again...
Ridiculous.
And don't get me wrong. I'm a dog owner, and I love my pet. I think what Vick did is reprehensible, but he got caught, served his punishment, and now wants to work again. I have no problem with that.
And for anyone else reading this thread who is wondering about this:
"****Do you know they used to go into neighborhoods and STEAL peoples domesticated pets and use them for bait for fighting dogs? The dogs would tear them into pieces"
--I've been following this story since it broke, and I've never heard anything about this.
um...what...??
:?
Um... no.
Just responding to the thread title by letting you know that it's not just black people who defend him.
And just so we're on the same page- I don't defend what he did. But I do defend the fact that he went to prison (the one small detail that sets Vick apart from the guys people on this thread keep lumping him in with ie OJ, Michael Jackson...) and should be able to go out and find a job again, with whoever wants to hire him.
Like someone on here mentioned earlier, if the Eagles want to take the risk of hiring him and all the negative publicity that is going to come with him, more power to them.
