I have no problem saying I don't like Phish. I've bought their albums even went to a show. But I just don't get them and maybe never will. They picked up the torch after Jerry passed in 1995 and the dead stopped touring. IMO Phish were in the right place at the right time.
i have no problem saying you dont like them either, but to say they suck is just wrong.

I was going to but I am doing the Chicago Pearl Jam shows and all four Philly shows, plus I took off for Hampton and fenway already so....... I am pushing my luck with days off/leaving early.
Nice. I have Phish x2, PJ x2, Tommy Emmanuel, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Porcupine Tree/Kings X all in the next 3 months....and hopefully Ray LaMontagne.
...all of this after a week in AZ in March, a week and a half honeymoon in CA in May and a few days off for 4 Phish shows in May/June. I heard what you are saying with regards to riding on vaca fumes.

The whole "picked up the Dead's torch" thing is just false. Phish was entirely established and playing huge venues before the 95 tour. They had a huge following that grew from a grassroots cult following into an arena filling touring machine before Jerry died (on my birthday btw). A few Dead fans decided to follow Phish because the whole idea was similar: dedicated fans, interesting and complex music, long jams that could take you on a journey, and yes even some of the less than admirable traits of a few of the fans.

We can both disagree and that's fine with me.
I just see it as both were on a plateau at that point, and one simply dropped off

you cant just dismiss everything he said. If Phish was playing arenas before Jerry died, you cant say they became big enough to play arenas because Jerry died.
tonight i'll be at the right place at the right time......section 100 in the meadows (it's still the meadows to everybody) at 7:45!!!!
Hell yeah dude....I leave work in an hour and head west down the Pike.
I'll be sporting a PJ shirt. Not sure if I am going to wear the '00 Mansfield shirt or the '03 Philly shirt. Whichever I don't wear I will wear at SPAC on Sunday. Decisions, decisions!

Very true and I agree.
But I'll say this, I didn't know who Phish was until Jerry died and the remaining members of the dead stopped touring together. Many bands took the torch I guess from the dead.
I so tried to like and get into Phish after Jerry passed. But it didn't work out and never will.
Late 1993 threw 1995 I was all about The Grateful Dead. Other bands also but The Dead were number one for me. I felt like I had found the band that I had been looking for. I was crushed when Jerry died and the trip was over.
Maybe if Jerry was still alive he would be jamming with Phish.

i'll be wearing a green long trail shirt or the blue PJ bandwagon shirt (I think that's the name of it) and a black "the breakfast" (increadible band if you never heard of them....go to the archive and get some shows) hat....I'll keep a look out for ya

you got it.....best unknown band around. Leaving work now...hope to bump into you at the lots today or sunday
obviously you have never listened to them or seen them live.
if you have, your ears dont work as well as they should., because to say they suck is insane. You can say you dont like them but to say they suck is silly. They put on as good a live show as Pearl jam, and each one of them is "better" at their instrument, not including lead vocals, but they kill PJ when it comes to vocal harmonies.
I have seen Phish 3 times and none of them were that amazing and I was on drugs too and it still didn't help. I like Fishman and O'Connell and Mike Gordon (child molester?) is ok. But Trey is loser and I wish he would OD on Oxy Contin.
If we have to go "JamBands" I'll take Widespread Panic-

Thats nice. Trey has donated more money to charity than you will ever make in your life, and you wish he would OD . Classy.
Pearl Jam owns Phish?? Didnt know this was a contest, but if it were WSP would come in last.
And Child molester? Was he found guilty of something?? Because I can think of another musician who also had charges against him, but since he wasnt found guilty either it would be equally wrong to start throwing his name around with child molester after it, regardless if you put a question mark or not.
But if it makes you feel better to insult bands that you dont like, well, go for it. Maybe your life is empty enough that you need to in order to make yourself happy or seem important.
I love them both and the story is still being written.
Next.
Oh, and I apologize for nor responding sooner, but I was seeing 2 Phish shows over the weekend and enjoying seeing a band busting out all sorts of crazy stuff and almost reaching a new peak in their careers (which will innevitably come if they keep at it).

It blows me away how people can get defensive, and say things like this. I don't care who you're talking about - you just called one person a child molester, and wished an overdose on someone else... maybe it's just me, but the fact that you would say something like this about another human being, simply because you don't like their music, really takes away a bit of your credibility. I don't want to speak for the entire fan-base here, but I would imagine it would also take away some folks' respect for you as well.
For the record - I'm not such a fan of Phish's music... I find it often drawn-out, repetitive, and thoughtless (especially in the lyrics category). That said, I've seen them once, and loved every second of it, and look forward to seeing them in the Fall hopefully.

Yea the death of a main bandmember can do that.
Up to 1995 the Dead were the top grossing band on tour. Who knows what they could have done if Jerry was still alive.
I take back what I said about the torch thing. Phish and DMB both picked up the torch from the dead.
I think worms are icky, so I'm going to pretend to not see that can that was just opened.

Ok
Fail.
Was a complete non-incident and he is not a child molester. And he can most likely run circles around your favorite bass player.
Fail #2.
The guy got caught w/ Heroin, then rehabbed and is now playing better than he has in ages? He's owned up to his demons and is a real inspiration now.
Fail #3.
Epic fail.

EXTREMELY well done and PJ should look at it as a model for them.
