I love Long Road, but Release is just a religious experience.

Touring Band 2000 sealed the deal for me as far as "Long Road" is concerned.
That was such a powerful and moving version -especially in the context of the 2000 tour- I still get emotional everytime I see it.
I love how during: "The Sun is Setting, The Sun Will Rise Another Day" part you can see Mike singing along with Eddie. It's definately a top 5 Pearl Jam moment and song for me.
Hope they open with "Long Road" in Toronto.
I love Release and Atlanta 94 is my favorite concert of all time (and I wasn't even there) but I agree with you about emotions with Long Road. The Sun is Setting, The Sun Will Rise Another Day is such a good line. Plus I think of what a great performance that Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn had with this movie. I think they do a great version of this song and Jeremy during a Red Rocks concert in the 90s.0 -

mrpink90 - this was the best way to word it!
THOUGH, i AM hoping on Halloween that they open their Encore with Release instead!! ...seriously, how cool would THAT be?
That is a great idea! They did it at Bonnaroo in 08 (well not to open the encore, but right after No More) and I thought it fit in REALLY well. I've always seen it as a good song to play towards the end of the night.Hartford 06

Release
When I heard it when I was in line at the venue pub in Vancouver it was like foreplay
Wash is great too
I do like Long Road but more in the middle as a breakYou must be the change you want to see in the world

Both are good but Hard to Imagine blows me away0

That's a tough one!
If I had to, I would probably say Long Road is my favourite PJ song - the version they played at Wembley '07 was incredible. However, Release holds a very special place for me, and then there is that vocal performance, so if I had to choose one as an opener I would go for that one. Got my fingers and toes crossed that they will play Release at the O2!0 -
ReleaseDon't come closer or I'll have to go0

I remember sitting in front of my cassette deck here in Finland in November 1996 recording the live broadcast of Pearl Jam's Berlin concert and first song was Long Road. I had been waiting for the show some days and when it finally started, I almost felt I was there myself. So that's why I go with Long Road.134xxx

This is such a tough choice. I got Release as the opener for one the recent DC shows, and it was awesome. I think I'm going with Release on this one, but I would love to hear Long Road as an opener since I haven't had it yet.5/28/06 - Camden, NJ

"Long Road" is my favourite song by my favourite band, so it wins hands down.
For the record, I've heard it open 3/24 shows; "Release" has opened 6.Minneapolis 1998 | Jones Beach I & II, Montreal, and Toronto 2000 | Buffalo, State College, Toronto, Montreal and Hershey 2003 | Boston I & II 2004 | Thunder Bay, Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto 2005 | Toronto I & II 2006 | The Vic and Lollapalooza 2007 | Calgary and Toronto 2009 | PJ20 I & II, Toronto I & II, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton 2011 | London, Chicago, Spokane, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle 2013 | Ottawa and Toronto I & II 2016 | Chicago I & II 2018 | Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto 2022 | Philadelphia I & II 20240 -
