Though Release is one of my fav songs, I am going with Long Road. I like Release as an encore song

  • This is such a tough choice. I got Release as the opener for one the recent DC shows, and it was awesome. I think I'm going with Release on this one, but I would love to hear Long Road as an opener since I haven't had it yet.

I remember sitting in front of my cassette deck here in Finland in November 1996 recording the live broadcast of Pearl Jam's Berlin concert and first song was Long Road. I had been waiting for the show some days and when it finally started, I almost felt I was there myself. So that's why I go with Long Road.

I love this post. That was me in 94 when they did the Atlanta show.

"Long Road" is my favourite song by my favourite band, so it wins hands down.

For the record, I've heard it open 3/24 shows; "Release" has opened 6.

    hard to imagine
  • there isn't another song in the PJ catalog that has the same feeling and emotion that release has....Ed with his heart on his sleeve...a masterpiece of rock n' roll !!!!
  • Good thing is that there are 2 shows in Chicago...Release on Sun, Long Road on Mon!

I'd actually take Oceans over all of them, but any one of these would be great!

  • I witnessed both, Release a few times (very lucky) and I would have to go with Release.

I would love to see I got ID as an opener.
  • hands down release
  • It's a really tough choice, but for my selfish purposes I'd choose Long Road for o2 as I saw them play Release at Nijmegen... which was an incredible experience... so I'd be happy with either. Although I'm generally happy with any song. Sometimes was great at SBE... Inside Job was great at Dublin... and Walking the Cow was great when I saw Eddie... I'm not the best person to judge I guess :)

    Release.

I waiting a LONG ass time to hear it live too. My first PJ show was in '91 and I didn't have a show where it was the opener until 10/31/2000, and it was a spiritual experience. I swear Eddie's voice fills the sky. I still get chills and a tear when I hear that song. It was a seriously profound experience.

I've heard Long Road as an opener, and I so want to hear Release. It's my No. 1 pick for an opener. Therefore I'd prefer Release , hope the guys play it on the Aussie tour. :)

even with long road being the first opener i ever heard live...and also the song that truly got me to fall in love with the band in 2001.

oh, and release as an opener, in the rain, in verona = priceless.
    Stay with me...

    Release pre-1996

Vedder sounded SOOOOO much better singing this one back in the day
  • LONG ROAD for me, Release is special to hear open though

Do The Evolution is a good opener too, sets the tone.
