Lucky enough to have heard them both as openers but I still go back to RELEASE.....maybe it is nostalgic since that was my very first concert opener song.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
Only b/c I've never been a huge fan of Long Road - that, and Release is awesome.

Touring Band 2000 sealed the deal for me as far as "Long Road" is concerned.
That was such a powerful and moving version -especially in the context of the 2000 tour- I still get emotional everytime I see it.
I love how during: "The Sun is Setting, The Sun Will Rise Another Day" part you can see Mike singing along with Eddie. It's definately a top 5 Pearl Jam moment and song for me.

I love Release and Atlanta 94 is my favorite concert of all time (and I wasn't even there) but I agree with you about emotions with Long Road. The Sun is Setting, The Sun Will Rise Another Day is such a good line. Plus I think of what a great performance that Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn had with this movie. I think they do a great version of this song and Jeremy during a Red Rocks concert in the 90s.

Since Release is the greatest opener in the history of concerts, im going with Release
mrpink90 - this was the best way to word it!
THOUGH, i AM hoping on Halloween that they open their Encore with Release instead!! ...seriously, how cool would THAT be?
That is a great idea! They did it at Bonnaroo in 08 (well not to open the encore, but right after No More) and I thought it fit in REALLY well. I've always seen it as a good song to play towards the end of the night.

Wash is great too
I do like Long Road but more in the middle as a break

If I had to, I would probably say Long Road is my favourite PJ song - the version they played at Wembley '07 was incredible. However, Release holds a very special place for me, and then there is that vocal performance, so if I had to choose one as an opener I would go for that one. Got my fingers and toes crossed that they will play Release at the O2!
I remember sitting in front of my cassette deck here in Finland in November 1996 recording the live broadcast of Pearl Jam's Berlin concert and first song was Long Road. I had been waiting for the show some days and when it finally started, I almost felt I was there myself. So that's why I go with Long Road.
