How is The Fixer still in the Top 5 (Billboard)??

Is anyone else boggled by this? This is the third week and The Fixer is #3 billboard's rock charts. Not only, IMO, the song isn't that good (but we won't go into that), I've heard it on the radio maybe 4 times TOPS in the past 3 weeks (and I have an hour commute to and from work every day!), and I don't know anyone whos liked it OR let alone heard it. I think I've heard the other 9 songs in the top 10 a million more times than The Fixer.
Is anyone else confused? Is KROQ in LA playing it a million times more than radio stations in DC? Do people like this song more than Use Somebody and Panic Switch!?

ummmm no im not boggled by it
its a great song
don't know why you dont get that
oh well!
Please, all of PJ's singles from Binaural on usually plummet quickly or don't even make it that high. And those songs are actually GOOD.On the Alternative chart, Life Wasted and I Am Mine didn't break the top 10, Gone peaked at #40 (abysmal), WWS faired pretty well but thats a GOOD SONG. I think PJ's last 3 songs that actually faired well on the charts (which equates to a good number of people actually liking the song) were Brother (which is Ten era so I don't really count it as new PJ), WWS, and Last Kiss. ONE of those three is new Pearl Jam. So yes, it's shocking that #1 a lot of people like The Fixer (which is garbage IMO) and #2 a lot of people like a new Pearl Jam song.
Edit: I think most of my confusion stems from the fact that I never hear it played? And no one I know likes it/has heard it?
Why would you be surprised if it wasnt? How long did wws stay on the charts? 2 weeks tops? What about I Am Mine? NAIS? They haven't had a song stay on the charts for any noticeable period since Last Kiss...
Sorry, as you seem like a nice person, but that may be the silliest question ever posted to this forum, which automatically qualifies it as maybe the silliest question posted to any forum, ever. Are you genuinely expecting serious answers to this response, or are you just, y'know, bored?

Ugh, yes, I'm sorry, The Fixer is an amazing song with range, depth, and meaningful lyrics and Pearl Jam have been so insanely popular the past 10 years.
BINGO ladies and gents, we have a winner.

I said that sometimes I just think this whole top 40 crap is just a marketing thing and bands pay loads of money to have their name up there for awhile.
I honestly think thats the case...and if a mod deleted my post then that just makes it even more suspicious.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised... how do you measure radio popularity anyway? By the number of times a DJ plays the song? Well, DJs wouldn't want to play songs people don't like because then the radio station would lose viewers, so theoretically if a DJ is playing a song a lot its becasue people want to hear it... but I like your thinking. But, even if bands pay their way to the tops of the charts, it doesn't mean people will like it more.
I woulldnt be surprised because, like many have said, it is their most "pop" song, and by defintion pop means popular.
So are you surprised their pop song has lasted longer in the top 5 than any of their previous non-pop songs?

And who'd of thunk a pop song would be pop-ular. There's a reason for that. If they wrote something complex and deep it would have already plummeted.. most people aren't music fanatics and don't like dealing with sappy complex music. They just want a good time. Can you really blame them?
And its starting to get more radio play here in Chicago. Q101 who wasn't playing it very much at first played it 7 times yesterday.
And it makes me want to rock out. Nothing groundbreaking, but I love the beats and spurts of energy!
Got it. "Boredom" it is.
I've heard it several times on the radio just today.

I worked at HMV in the UK and a rep came in once and bought all of the copies of A1's single we had on release day. He said they had people doing it in every region of the UK just to get it to number one. Of course they do this.
Also, there were awful albums that we barely sold but universal and others paid us to put in the top three in our chart.
However, I'm sure that isn't the case with the Fixer. Pearl Jam are famous, vital and have now done a nice summer pop tune. Is it unbelievable that it is doing well? I think not.
I'm curious as to where you heard it?
it WILL rock live..
i hope that this is getting all of the people that listen to shit radio to actually go to a pearl jam concert and have their lives and musical taste change.
