    Good.

Though I can't help but think this was all negotiated ahead fo time. The Bill Clinton visit I'm sure was an attempt by Kim Jong Il to show the world that he is still a powerful leader that demands attention.

Tough work behind the scenes no matter who did the real work. Glad to see this happen.

The real question is, did they have cigars when they met?

All joking aside, good job Bill!

Ummm--- because he makes those whom lack actual common sense look smart- comparitively speaking. I like Lisa Ling - however - these "Al Gore" (inventor of the internet....Ha-Ha!) reporters shouldn't have "accidently" crossed over into North Korea - all in the name of "reporting" for "Current" (Yawn........BROING....not to mention LEFTIST - reporting.) I am human - so I can empathize. However - "Stupid is, as Stupid does.) Bill Clinton needs to fade into the sunset and be as irrelevent as his presidency was.

good job bill. if we had kept calling them part of the "axis of evil" and worked at keeping them isolated from the rest of the world, those women would more than likely have been hostages for many years. or maybe worse they could have been made dead. i think this situation demonstrates how using a firm but reasoned and respectful hand in foreign relations works much better than using a clenched fist. i certainly prefer the obama way over the bush way.

oh yeah, someone said in this thread that clinton's presidency was irrelevent
do you really think actions he may have taken during his presidency had anything directly to do with what he did today? seriously. just be glad he did not pull a carter in this situation.

Figures. I can predict with 100% accuracy I'm going to recieve when I respond. that's right - It was ME that said Bill Clinton had an irrelevent presidency. I had to endure him for 8 years - just like you did with GW. Pay-back can be such a bitch. Whatever. Yeah - Bill Clinton is a real Hero. And Jimmy Carter (are you even old enough to remember HIS presidency...what a hack). It's completely obvious which way you lean. I have a few "Habit for Humanity houses in our neighborhood. Now our house isn't worth shit. Yeah.

again you are off topic. as usual. what you posted has nothing to do with the thread yet again.

what are you even talking about? payback? payback for what? are you saying GWB was payback for the clinton years or was obama payback for the bush years? you make no sense at all. and what DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE which way i lean politically? that is irrelevent to the topic i was discussing about the posted article in which clinton helped get the hostages back. you can't debate me about the topic so you infer i am young and stupid. i remember carter's presidency and i have read enough about it to know the mistakes he made with the iranian hostages that effectively ended his presidency. all i said about him is be glad clinton did not pull a carter and screw this situation up any worse.

on a side note are you saying that because your home value dropped does that make habitat for humainity a bad thing? in your eyes probably, but many many people have benefitted from that program. i even volunteered and helped build houses for HFH when i was in high school and college. Yeah. perhaps your property value dropped JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE'S DID when the economy tanked? but no, just blame it all on the liberal housing for homeless program if it helps you sleep better at night..

Well you know Bill he has a thing for the ladies. I'm sure their families are quite happy with his results, which is all that matters. I do wonder though that Iran is certainly watching these results in that they I believe they're holding 3 hikers correct.

I'm sure we had to give up something and I'm sure Iran will want something also in return for the hikers release. Good job *Slick Willie* :)

North Korea is a Communistic country. Bill Clinton is just trying to remain relevent. He should never have went. The question is - what did he give them in return? I think we are entitled to that information.

You bring up Al Gore twice in a thread about Bill Clinton and hostages... what's your point?

Screw the journalists, right? Screw anyone who is taken hostage by another country... that's what you are saying right?

What did we give them in return? Attention... any maybe we opened some diplomacy that has been lacking for the last 8 years.

Some guy I work with (who I rarely agree with) called the whole thing a publicity stunt. I'm not talking about the women being arrested-- that was very real, but how the whole thing played out with Clinton going over there to free them. He believes that it was all worked out weeks ago, and that they wanted to slap a public figure on it all to make a big deal out of actual "relations" (pun intended?) between the US and North Korea. Maybe he's right? I mean, how did Slick Willy actually do it-- what did he actually do or say to get these people freed?

Ask Drifting about Rhodes Scholarship, and he'll tell you that it's just a completely different type of "good ol' boy" system.

It's obvious that the release was worked out ahead of time... The US wouldn't risk sending a former president over there just to come back empty handed.

There was a lot of diplomacy put into this, who knows what role Bill Clinton played in it, but him going over there gave North Korea some attention, and probably went a ways to improve diplomacy between the US and NK.

This is one of the actual changes that I expect out of this administration and little else-- not that I feel that Barry O. is fundamentally different than W. at all with foreign policy, although this thing here with North Korea might be a step in the right direction. I just feel he's able to pull off pushing the American Empire with more effetiveness than W. because he's just not a cowboy. It's a different, but less offensive type of arrogance that our leaders are showing under Barry than W.
