I have listened to the first 4 songs and the first part of exogenisis.

It is hard for me to for man opinion yet as i have obviously not even heard the entire album, but from what i've heard i've been disapointed.

its bombastic and overblown craziness.... i fucking love it.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
  • i am a bit disturbed by the unshameless channelling of Queen in United states of Eurasia...

This album is not for me.

I like Uprising, United States of Eurasia, Unnatural Selection, & Exogenisis part 2

I don't think any of them are great and i think some of the others are pretty bad.

I was not a fan of Black Holes and this for me just continues down a path i don't enjoy. That said if you have different taste in music i'm sure there could be a lot of good things found on this album.

I won't spend any more time bashing it to each their own. I listened to it twice now and I'll keep giving it a shot (until the new pj album arrives at my door) but i don't hear much on this album i will want to hear over and over again..

My fav i think is unnatrual selection.

  • I didnt really like muse's new album. it just didnt sound like them, but eh maybe its just me. But, i would have to say i do like the united states of eurasia. It has a queen feel to it
  • Wanted to give it some time before I posted.

Love the uprising, resistance, USOE, MK Ultra, & Unnatural selection (maybe my fav).

Kinda digging Undisclsoed desires, exogenesis (part 2 is the best), and I belong to you.

Might only listen to Guiding light 1 more time and then put it on permanent skip. ;)

All and all, solid album. I can't wait to see them live again and mix in a few of these beauties with my old favs. You have to see them live to truly appreciate them. Like PJ, they are better on stage than in studio...though both bands are good at both.

  • It's really not for me I don't think, I'm up to Unnatural Selection and I've not likes any song so far.

Muse have always been one of those bands that I feel I ought to like but just can't get into them, like Weezer.
All my favourite singers have stolen all of my best lines.
  • MK Ultra is probably my pick at the moment

I've softened my stance on this albu. Although it won't be in my top 10 of the yera or anything like that i like what they are trying to do and give them credit for that.

I still think it only has 3 or 4 songs i'll come back to listen too often, those songs are good.

For anyone who says they dont like this album...watch the making of dvd that comes with it. WOW. All the work and the creatvity this album took might change your mind drastically. It COMPLETELY changed my mind about Guiding Light.

  • My God this band are horrible, I knew they made a second record but I didn't realise they were still going. I just heard the new single and it sounds like the Electic 6 or something a transvestite would sing at GAY.

I absolutely love the Exogenesis symphony at the end. It took many listenings, but I'm starting to like Undisclosed Desires now.

As a fan of Muse since the showbiz days,

I love the band, and especially the albums that followed absolution and symmetry - those were awesome records, and you have to get down on your knees at any band that can create 4 minutes of beauty like stockholm syndrome.

So that said where did it all go wrong?

Black holes was well shall we say borderline Ok - the disco theme ruined it to be blunt, Muse playing disco live was not a pretty sight, and supermassive black hole was a tremendous let down on stage, it just killed the shows, unless you like the radio and love the mainstream charts.

so i'ma little late to the party on this new record, but after persevering with it for a few weeks, its gotta be said its just total shite, and its a fucking good job this wasnt their debut, otherwise people who have taken time to let this album grow because of their love of the band wouldnt have bothered. Its just bollocks, they are better than this. Its all so egocentric, all classical indulgence and really it doesnt work, it sounds like a synth heavy queen and 80's rip off at best.

A shambolic failure, and thank fuck I didnt bother getting tickets for the arenas or football stadiums, because Muse have taken their eye off the ball and tried to make music for the charts, and then surrounded it by music destined for Radio 4.

We have a very similar opinion. I'm not sure I'll go as far as saying they are trying to make music for the charts, but i agree in your assesment of the last two albums.

the first three were very good though.

I should have clarified, the singles they are releasing are geared for the charts.....supermassive and that new utterly dreadful song that is third on the album - I cant even be bothered this time to learn the track names!!!

"Supermassive" might be their best song. It's got such a great groove. I'd rather listen to that than endless guitar wankery.

Well, I have been a Muse fan since Original Symmetry, an unconditional fan of their first 3 records but still DO love the last and enjoy the new one...to tell you the truth, the new stuff cemented the fact they are my top 3-4 favourite band ever, and in spite of the fact that I miss the harder, metalesque guitars The Resistance is full of beautiful melodies and arrangements that still WORK!!!
Can't wait to see them again, and I am really sorry they've become huge in the States and practically everywhere , because there are a lot less shows in Europe than ever before...there is no fuckin Muse concert in Eastern Europe  ...and not even in Austria  ???? Come ooooon!

maybe its me, this new one sucks to me, its just sounds like one big mess.....

and Supermassive?? crikey i detest that song....I only found it to be a total setlist killer at all the shows I saw....

as a side issue Matt seems to be doing that raspy breathing between words more than ever live....i know its a staple part of their sound but its totally toned down on record.

On the live scene, Muse really did peak 3 years ago

NOt mad on the new album.....but i do fail to see where people are coming from when they say the new album is pretentious and egocentric. Since Symmetry was released (and even a few of the songs on Showbiz), this band has had pretentious written all over it. They pull it off, i guess when the songwriting doesnt live up to the massive production (ie the new album) the pretentiousness makes the songs sound lazy/arrogant.

Once the New Born single was released, Muse announced themselves as a hybrid of rock and Andrew Lloyd Webber. They were pretentious then, and are pretentious now. It's just part of who they are. I do like that the new album is something different, and each album does have a different vibe. The current one isnt exactly radio-friendly, but it does sound like Queen.

I just watched this. It's pretty good - similar to 'Single Video Theory'.
