Vault downloads: Target vs. 10C Backspacer

edited August 2009 in The Porch
Been thinking about the vault downloads that the Billboard article talked about--how you can download a few shows by buying the Target Backspacer disc. I've read some posts asking if those of us who pre-ordered the 10C edition will also be able to access vault shows. I'm wondering if b/c we haven't heard anything official yet maybe it'll be a pleasant surprise and the 10C will grant 10C members MORE THAN 2 downloads? Or maybe bundle the physical CD with one or more physical discs of vault shows? Either way I am sure they are thinking of us and we'll also get some vault-related stuff from our 10C purchase.

There's been implications from other online retailers that the vault shows aren't restricted to Target, they'll be a part of every copy of Backspacer. I wouldn't worry about it.

Cool, thanks for sharing the knowledge! Now we can all start to make our wishlists of which vault shows we want to download...

The info might be wrong, but it's mentioned on eil.com here:

It is also possible that outside of the U.S. (where the "exclusive deal' with Target does not exist) folks will have access to The Vault and that within the U.S. it is restricted to Target-purchased CDs. I think this is quite likely. Remember, Target needs to have something special other than being the only "big box" retailer to carry the album.

Yeah, there are so many amazing shows that have the potential for being released. As great as a show like soldier field is, for example, I hope that is not one of the options, as we all have that in high quality already. I hope they think outside the box a bit. the only vault release so far was somewhat of a random show, so maybe that's a good sign.

    EDIT

Oh, and they better be in flac, or it is a waste of time.

Hopefully if we get two with the 10 Club edition, we also get two more if we bought the vinyl. Those of us who did buy the vinyl could then get four shows, which would be sweet. Either way, these shows will be traded amongst each other I am sure.

Yeah because mp3's make your ears bleed and cause aids. It would be a total waste of time, especially for the 85% the people who don't even know what a FLAC or FLAC conversion software is.

It's not taboo at all. You just sounded as though if it isn't FLAC, you won't even consider listening to it which is a bit pretentious. I would be fine with FLAC or MP3. As long as we get something.

Let me be the first to ask...why are you buying it 3 times? I can possibly understand buying the CD and vinyl but why do you need multiple cd's?

i was kinda stating that hypothetically. so now you can be the last. but still, do we get the downloads with the vinyl anyways?

    from billboard:

Instead, the album is encoded with Sony DADC's eBridge technology, which allows purchasers to unlock extra content when they put the disc in their computers.

The Target discs will link to a virtual "vault" of 11 concerts spanning Pearl Jam's career, from which fans can choose two.

doesn't look like it but we may get a code like with ditp

said it last week and i'll say it again, if the vault shows are in FLAC and complete and unedited, I will buy 6 copies of the CD and get all the shows just to support the cause.

if its not flac, its a botched job of releasing the shows. if its mp3 only it'll just get tossed into my ipod and barely listened to. I say if they are gonna do it, do it right.

oh, and complete shows too. I shouldn't even have to mention this, but evidently I do, seeing the most recent releases... :?

I have pre-ordered the CD and Vinyl from 10c, plus the CD from my local online retailer (as 10c shipping will probably take a few weeks to get here and I want to listen to it the day it comes out, however I don't want to pass on the 10c edition), so I can realistcally hope to get 6 shows?! jeez man, mp3 will suit me fine, I dont have to piss around converting it then. plus I dont seen that Flac is that much better anyway. I wont grumble whatever format its in, just pleased to have it.

This is a perfect example of the difficulties this band faces with its rabid support, whatever they do, and I mean whatever they do, not everyone will be happy. They live and work in an impossible world.

I'd love to get wembley 2007 tenclub if your taking requests.

as for buying multiple copies? dude its called collecting, surely your ofay with that. I'll probably wind up with ten of this record, in its slightly varying packaging from different outlets. Sure its wierd, but there are a lot of people like me out there. We know it makes no sense, we know to most people its lunacy, but it makes us happy...so so be it

Just to update, according to an email I got from 10c today, only the Target version of the CD will provide access to the vault shows.
When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
    Chasing something in the night.
