why havent they released the entire list? I have heard about this list for years. Release it, expose the cheaters. Lets punish them. Clean up the sport and move on.

How stupid is the MLB? Its such a sham. Their records are all held now by cheaters. No one takes Bonds' record as legitimate. Hank Aaron sure as hell doesnt.

Bonds is a joke, a leech and parasite.

I think the MLB is alot like the record industry. A bunch of clueless people who think fining people is going to do the trick.

You have to clean out the entire sport. The MLB knew Sosa and Mcguire and others were doping and they knew Bonds was as well. But nothing was done. During that great home run race of 1997 or 1998 EVERYONE was following it. Baseball fans and non baseball fans. So the MLB looked the other way, even thoiugh it knew Sosa and Mcguire and hundreds of others were on steroids.

bonds is evil in my opinion. People like Mcguire at least look contrite about it. I think Mcguire genuinely feels terrible for what he did. I think he feels awful and embarassed.

People like the Bonds' of the world feel no shame. He doesnt give a damn at all. He continues to lie and say he didnt do anything, even with a mountain of evidence pointing out otherwise. Plus I think the guy is a jerk. He is egotistical and arrogant. Bonds' doesnt feel ashamed at what he did, the mockery he created. And I think until he dies he will deny he ever took steroids.

As I said, the MLB is a joke right now. They let the Bonds' home run king charade run its course when it should have spoken up and said "hell no". Maris should still be the single season king. And Aaron still the all time king.

I think people make mistakes. And people admit them. They ask for forgiveness.

Mcguire's decision to take steroids will haunt him the rest of his life. I think it will haunt his conscience until his dying breath.

Bonds on the other hand and alot of these idiots I dont think they could give a damn.

They want their records, they want the hall of fame, they want the glory. They dont want to admit it.

The MLB is just as much responsible for all of it, as the players. The MLB silently condoned it. The Strike left the sport in shambles, but suddenly a few years later, 2 players capitvate the nation in a home run race for the ages and all the while the MLB knows the whole sport is doped. How sick is that?

This underlines my reasons for being a Marxist. Money and fame ruin everything. Its all about being the best, being the top dog. No matter what, winning is most important. Again, what a shame!

they havne't released the list because the test was SUPPOSED to be an anonymous test (jsut to see how much PEDs were in the game, not to punish individuals) ... it was revealed in a grand jury testimony and one of the lawyers, court workers, someone is leaking it (or has already sold it to the NY Times)

The players union wants no part of the list being released ... but ... it's going to anyway, so, might as well jsut suck it up and let MLB rlease it.

McGwire ruined his legacy by doing his clam imitation in front of the Congressional Committee and the world...it made him a dick-head on the level of Bonds...who was a noted ass-hole prior to having his "home-run stroke". The problem with all of these jokers is that part of their career was during a era where many of the substances that they were ingesting were not banned by MLB.

I also think singling out bonds is appropriate because of how everyone acted when he "broke the record". Or "marred the record".

People acted like this was some huge deal. Like we should all stop in awe and wonderment, "wow someone really broke Aaron's record".

Ben Harper even talked about how special it felt to be at the stadium that day, seeing Bonds "break the record".

People continued and continue to this day to treat bonds like he is some kind of hero, that he actually did break that record.

I am all for bad mouthing steroid users but all steroid users deserve to be bad mouthed, not just Mcguire.

Mcguire was thrown under the bus. It seems like the entire MLB roster for the last 10-15 years has taken steroids, with the exception of Ken Griffey Jr.

MLB created the mess. What it should have done as Bonds got "closer" to the record was to come out and say "bonds is a cheater and we dont recognize his numbers". Instead that put the crown on him and rolled out the red carpet.

Any press for sports is good press to these people. If players are doping but bringing fans into the fold and games are selling out, why mess with a good thing? Why expose the sport for what it is? Why risk shame and embarassment and millions of potential revenue?

I disagree. I dont think Mcguire was putting on an act. He has always seemed a pretty genuine guy. I think he made a major mistake and error and his numbers should have asterisks by them. But when I look at how he has acted in public since the home run race and all that, I think he is genuinely contrite. I think it deeply troubles him, what he did and how he made it cool for kids to take steroids and say "hey mcguire uses them so its okay".

He lied about his steroid use, but I think he is one of the few, who has taken them and is willing to maybe hopefully in the future, go around giving speeches and telling kids how bad they are and how wrong he was to take them.

I dont think his behavior lately has been an act at all.

Contrast that with the behavior of a roger clemens or a Barry Bonds and I think you have two very different ways of dealing with this stuff.

So bonds took steroids but he could do it all?

Read my post. Maybe you cant read. I never said to treat anyone different. I think I specifically said, Maris' and Aaron's record should still stand as records and that all who cheated should have asterisks.

Doesnt sound like a double standard to me.

If you used steroids you should have an asterisk. Pretty simple. Both Bonds and Mcguire used. Both should have asterisks, and they shouldnt be recognized as having his as many homers.

Bonds is full of himself. And he obviously wasnt as good as you act like was. Taking steroids is a sign of weakness not strength in my book. I also think as I said you deal with taking steroids in two ways. One, you admit it, say "what I did was wrong, I messed up, I apologize to fans and to kids, I am sorry", or you continue to act stuck up, to act arrogant, to continue to deny you ever took them, and you demonize players who have taken them, even as you yourself have taken them. The Palmiero testimony comes to mind. How definitive could he have been "I never took steroids, period". Yet he used them.

You cant undo it. You cant go back in time and not take them. What I think you CAN do, if you are a player, is to admit what you did is wrong and fight like hell, non juiced, to prove your worth both as a player and human.

Bonds seems unwilling to do ANY of that. He has no conscience and I dont think he gives a damn how many kids have taken steroids because he and others made it cool and acceptable. I dont think he gives a damn about hank Aaron or baseball as a sport. I think he wanted to be the all time home run king. Whats sad is he didnt go about it by practice and dedication. He took steroids to do it. I dont think he feels an iota of guilt or embarassment.

Thats why I hate Bonds to such a degree. He is scum. Worthless as a human being.

Even if 100 percent proof comes back that he did take steroids, you really think he will say "okay the gigs up, I admit it, I am sorry". Is sorry even in his vocabulary?

Like I stated before, I agree with alot ur sayin. Yea Bonds is an asshole, but how many times over his career has there been incidents with him getting a dui, fighting in nightclubs, rape or other things that in this soceity we continue to give others countless 2nd or 3rd chances on.Arrogance is a huge turn-off, but its not a crime. I just like to look at things as a whole. He's one guy out of hundreds...maybe thousands who have used.
  • and thru all this, interim Commissioner For Life Bud Selig still has a job. That's the biggest joke of all. Pretending he was against steroids from the ebgiinning, when everyone knows the owners and mgmt knew all about it, but ignored it because it sold tickets

also, respectfully, you say you don't watch sports (because of the hypocrisy) but, damn, you sure are a Bonds expert!

I was very into sports as a kid. And i actually was a fan of the A's as a kid. This was 1990 or 1991 and 1992. So oddly enough I actually was a fan as a kid of Conseco and Mcguire. Pretty odd to see what happened to them!

I have a passing knowledge of sports, I am not ignorant on the subject, but I went to a university. And I never attended a single one of the schools sports functions, in my 4 years.

I also was a long time basketball fan who got wrapped into the whole home run race of 1997 and 1998, because my childhood hero Mcguire was in it. I followed that race closely. And I also have read extensively on Bonds. I find him a facinating character.

I dont fancy myself an expert on Bonds, but I think I know what I can see with my own two eyes. I dont have respect for him as a player or as a human.

Its always funny how whenever people do something bad, have an affair, cheat, or lie, or whatever, they always lie until 100 percent proof comes out and they HAVE to admit it.

What i dont get is, why people dont admit it, right away. Bonds would still be in it, but I dont think he would be in quite the mess he is in now. This goes for all of the doped player. Why not admit it right away. Why wait for the list to be released?

and thru all this, interim Commissioner For Life Bud Selig still has a job. That's the biggest joke of all. Pretending he was against steroids from the ebgiinning, when everyone knows the owners and mgmt knew all about it, but ignored it because it sold tickets

agree completely. I dont think firing him would be enough though. Fines and maybe something more, jail time maybe?

There should be a cleaning day in the MLB, and those who knew about it, who used, should be fired and banned from the game. That would wipe out a large chunk of the league, but it would be a start.

As I said, How sick do you have to be, to know its going on and do nothing about it? And beyond that, when these players that are known to be using are the posterboys for the sport like Mcguire and Bonds and A Rod and all those guys are and were, you not only keep silent on your knowledge of the steroids, but you ACTIVELY promote these players as heroes and as posterguys! Unreal.

Contrast that with the behavior of a roger clemens or a Barry Bonds and I think you have two very different ways of dealing with this stuff.[/quote]
Regardless of whether it was an act or not......that's the last public appearance that the majority of people remember.....what public appearances has he made since that debacle? What has he said publicly since then? Hey, I was a big Mac fan going back to his 49 home run rookie season....I was aghast at his congressional testimony.....he should thank the stars that Palmerio's testimony and eventual positive test took a lot of the spotlight....that and Sosa forgetting how to speak English.

He rarely even got thrown out of games. The Marxist, Bonds-hater really doesn't have an argument. Feel free to hate the dude but stop short of crucifying him. And, I wonder how musicismylife would feel if the goverment was after him for 6 years and spending tens of millions to for what exactly??

    Letter to Sports Illustrated, 2001

I was a Giants teammate of Bonds for three years and saw firsthand what (Rick) Reilly wrote about. What Reilly didn’t write about was Barry’s toughness. He plays everyday. Even when Barry was hurting, he was not only on the field but also kicking butt. There were no excuses offered, no injuries hidden behind.

Other things I remember about Barry: his picking up huge checks at restaurants, embarrassing a magician at a team party by yelling out the secret to every trick he had, getting down on his hands and knees and playing with my then four-year-old daughter at a kid’s birthday party and telling me, “She’s the cutest little girl I’ve ever seen in my life!” So, Rick, Barry isn’t a villain in a Hollywood movie. There’s good and bad in everyone. He wasn’t the perfect teammate, but he’s not a phony. He is who he is. More power to him – hopefully enough to get him to 71.

Whats sad is he didnt go about it by practice and dedication. He took steroids to do it.

It's true. Bonds didn't work at all. Marginal talent. 100% product of steroids.

P.S. How did this turn into the Bonds thread?? People like me, I guess.

Did your "extensive reading" include this?

It, obviously, overlooks steroids but you might learn that Bonds is not the worst person in the world. Just about every other author has taken the "I'm setting out to prove Bonds is an asshole" approach. Give the people (you) what they want, I guess....
