Sorry to hear about your frustrations Flutter-Girl, not being able to do things that once came easy sucks. could you put those frustrations & feelings into a comic strip? photos even instead of drawings or stick figures, sometimes less is more & its good to get things out there.

The med pretty well has left me creatively blocked..That and it changed my hair texture (that one is a plus at least!). Very odd combo there.

At least I am able to redirect my frustration into labor LoL..I've painted every room in the house I rent out, done some plumbing and electrical work, re-did the kitchen entirely..Painted my own house, and now moved on to landscaping. so basically if I get frustrated, I go do some heavy lifting LoL
    My back is not happy.

Do it fluttergirl! Build shit! Have you ever worked in metal? That's my favorite medium. Very cathartic, filing, sawing, soldering, hammering.

Get some found objects and just start, even with a cold soldering iron. You never know what could come out.

Don't lose hope, I think it's great that your going to start sketching. baby steps, don't loose the hunger to create!

I said it back in August of 2009 on the first page of this thread, you guys are too hard on yourselves! The work shared here is beautiful, and kudos to fireladie and the trout for uplifting people with their words.

Art is so subjective, what speaks to a person one day may not speak to them the next, do the work for yourselves and if someone happens to dig it? Well, that's just a perk.

 good post brokenarrow! everyone is very hard on themselves, if you find your art speaks in someway to you, then it's doing it's job, and you were successful, regardless of others or simple flaws! Don't stop creating!! :D Majority of the time, we are our biggest critics.

theres a balance- don't be critical disheartened dependant on others praises to the extent that it stops creativity... but I also know ( young folk mostly ) who know best, will not accept feedback, " i'm not having an editor tell me how to write ! ", which is also a crippling attitude. I guess its a defensive thing.

my inner critic ( who is a horrible slave driver of a woman ), is a harsh task master, but hell she gets things done, I've had to learn to bypass her though and take a leap of faith & show work, submit it, share it, be open & brave no matter what I think of it, never point out the flaws to others, just chuck it all out there & see what happens..its great!

( she says, wasting time on the internet instead of creating )

    Hey fireladie!
    Thanks for the complement!
I think the cliffs from my painting are from Hawaii, but I'm not sure...
As far as the painting contest goes-
I totally understand what everyone is saying - but -
Just the thought that Eddie took a look at my work,
and the thought that I, and all the entries gave him enjoyment- makes me feel happy.
Since Pearl Jam has given me thousands and thousands of hours of enjoyment
    I felt I owed him! :))

Yup, thats how I feel, just trying to give something back...

I've googled, & yup its the Kilt Rock, I've got photos somehwhere buried under mountains of stuff, so google is quicker! The isle of skye is just 25 miles from me, so thats how I recognised it. Its stunning there! crazy volcanic rocks up on the north end, there are loads of fossils at the base of these cliffs. A great place to fly from ! the air is so crisp & clean, the sea is so beautiful !

Ach! The thought of filing and sawing metal sends chills up my spine like nails down a chalkboard!! LoL..I do like working with wood tho..My tablesaw fried, but I'm waiting for a new tool in the mail (feel's like Christmas coming lmao..)..I've been itching to get back to doing that. I built most of the contraptions in my house..stuff for storage and whatnot..And I've made rockinghorse's before and other baby furniture..The thing with drawing and painting is that I see the stuff in my head, I just can't put them to paper. At least I don't have that issue when working with wood or clay..

I'm the same as you, Fireladie..I'm deffo my own worst critic. I hate everything I've ever done, picking each piece apart..but that is normal for most of us I think..

I've never worked with wood but love that type of work. You had me laughing at the metal sending chills up your spine like nails on a chalkboard! lol!! Yes, I guess that isn't for everyone.

I think we all view our own work as sub-par, incomplete, not as good as other stuff out there etc. We just need to look beyond all of that and do it for whatever reason is driving us in the first place. I love getting new tools also, give me a gift certificate for any tool kingdom over one from a clothing store and you've made me very happy! :D I've been learning how to forge tool steel and have been making my own chasing and setting tools as of late. Damnit it's awesome pounding the shit out of firey hot steel on an anvil. Kick ass! ;)

and to get back to the topic at hand, please post more paintings people. We would like to see them!!!

LoL..scratching jeans gives me the same nails on board chill too..I'm odd like that.
I sooo love getting tools more than clothes too! Especially cos it's always either a card from a store I would never buy clothes from, or if they give me clothes, it's always something hideous!
I've taken on a few new projects..build a fence, plant heaps of trees (digging up crab grass is NOT easy!), build a couch, a box to hide away the cat litter pan..I'll be kept busy for a while..Thank goodness, cos I'd go stir crazy if I couldn't do something even remotely creative!

skye - Did you ever post pics of your painting? I'd love to see, if you wouldn't mind..
