Downloading CD quality albums in 3 minutes (for free!) wasn't on the radar ten years ago either.

I totally understand why PJ has chosen to make 'a deal with the devil', so to speak, and I don't blame them at all.

I wrote tenclub recently because I wanted to buy the new single and vinyl and it wouldn't let me combine shipping, and I was hoping it was a glitch. Anyways, they said they couldn't for whatever bullshit reason. So I asked how I could buy them if I lived in a place without Target, and I got this response:

"CIMS stores in the US will have all formats. Not sure about rest of world.
    10c"

Is it just me or is that not helpful at all? I don't think I'll have a problem buying the album outside the US, but I don't know about the single or vinyl.

They used to do business with Wal-Mart, Target, BestBuy, Costco, Kmart. Now its just Target, because Target allows them to deal with indie stores.

They probably make LESS MONEY this way.

is that why 10c ticket prices have gone up?

    (not trying to start shit)

if i'm paying more because pj got rid of their record company, i think i'm ok with that. :)

Ticket prices went up because the price of everything went up. Not to mention there are more people in the band now. You think Boom works for free? And his roadies?

I just can't wrap my head around this arrangement with Target for the new album distribution.

I'm just afraid that it comes off as hypocritical.

You're from Canada, eh? So, all you have to do is find your way to this website.

Hey eh ! But like you know, if I order from 10c you know,..its like, you know $15 US for shipping . So why , you know, would I be that stupid. I'll just drive to my canadian Walmart or HMV and buy it. But its funny, I can even find my way to this website from Canada, it didn't take too long, :P

So what would you all say if Ed comes on stage with a vintage Target t-shirt ? Would you finally see the irony ?

The Target deal is only for the US. In Canada you should be able to buy it from any place that sells cds.

Thats good for us,..I was wondering how the American fans feel about this arrangement.

I feel that maybe they're taking baby steps out of their socially aware non-commercial attitude of their 30's, and starting to dip their toes into new waters,...sorta like U2, Coldplay etc.

the President Eddie wanted in office is now in office and now they have to tour around the country overcharging fans and signing deals with corporations in order to pay the taxes Obama will be placing on the members of Pearl Jam. Eddie said in 2003 he didn't agree with the tax cut and wanted to give it back to the fans, well times change when that cut is actually gone huh?

    oh my.

People aren't seeing the bigger picture here. This is NOT a deal with the devil, or that age-old over-used term "selling out". If that was the case, simply getting a record deal would be selling out. Yeah, because people in bands don't need to make money.

They don't have to worry about distribution. They possibly get mass promotion (they HAVE filmed a commercial for this, remember). And, like was said many times, Target is the only big boxer that allows indie stores and their website to also carry the product. This is as far away from selling out as you can get these days, whatever "selling out" really actually means (it's really an absurd concept, isn't it? I guess that means I sell out every day going to my job). Seriously, I really think that the guys have also learned to go with what will get their music to the masses. Remember their big fight against TM? That ended with the tour being cancelled, and that helped NO ONE. Not the band, not the fans, not anyone.

People have to stop putting these guys on some moral pedestal and holding them to that higher standard. They are human and have bills and families just like the rest of us.

The music industry of even 2003 is way different than the music industry of 2009. It basically no longer exists, so things have to change with the business model. Overcharging fans? What?? The last show I saw of them in 2005 was in a huge venue, sold out, and was a cheaper price than most shows I go to. AND they played for nearly 3 f**king hours.

And show me one fan club that gives what they give for the price they charge. Pearl Jam is WAY better to their fans than 99% (if not 100%) of bands out there, and I'm proud to say that they are my favourite band.

You'll have no problems finding it in Canada. Futureshop or Best Buy will have it guaranteed. These exclusive details are only for the US and the band's management has already stated that independents will be carrying it as well.

Just to confirm, it's still ok for Ed to insult other artists about it tho, right?

So long as you don't mind getting raped by the 10C with bs shipping charges. I would love to buy the LP and CD from this website but I refuse to pay 22.50 to have a cd and LP shipped seperately. For 22.50, the band should hand deliver us our purchases or at least send Rubysdad over to give us a reach around after they are done with us. Easy Street Records charges $11 to ship a cd and a vinyl (together?!?!?! - is this legal?) and I get a cool sticker ta boot.

That's a little different, I think. Pearl Jam isn't hawking Target. They are just using them to distribute their album.

When Pearl Jam allows a tampon company to use "Oceans" just because of the lyric "hold on to the thread," then we can talk.
