i went to the june pj concert in columbia sc - and it was a non-smoking venue. I dislike smoke but tolerate it for certain events. Its an unavoidable problem for non-smokers - having to put up with other people's ash!

So there is Eddie puffing away on stage at the concert right? so its ok for him, of course they won't enforce the rule on the lead singer of pearl jam right? no never in a million years.
but that just gives everyone else the o.k. to fire up their cigs and start passing the grass - and then we pretty much have a small army of smokers puffing away, which is great if you don't mind the shit- but i do. So i'm stuck in a cloud of toxic fumes thanks to eddie - way to go my man! at first no one was smoking but, then once they saw ed - its like a tear gas attack!

so nice to know that once ed was seen doing it - everyone who smoked was firing em up. wish i could go somewhere and not leave smelling like a g-d ashtray! afterall it was a non-smoking venue, but turned into a smokehouse.

I don't think it's Eddie's fault. I mean they could allow him and still enforce the nonsmoking rule if only for the sake of fire hazard. I agree about smoke; I hate it because I have to smell as bad as those who smoke choose to. But I don't CHOOSE to.

the problem is that not until you quit smoking do you see that it smells so awful. it is a terrible addiction.

Bitching about smoke at a concert might be the lamest thing that someone can do. It's also completely pointless. If you are really having an issue, and don't care if the entire venue thinks that you suck, then by all means go and get an usher or a security guard and start narking out the smokers.

Or, you could be a decent human being and learn to tolerate the rest of the humans that you are sharing the concert venue with.

I've been to shows all over this country, and in three others, and you know what I think about when I show up at the venue? I think, "Wow! Look at all of these people! They're all Pearl Jam fans too! This is going to be great!" I'm sure that there are a ton of people in the crowd that do things that I don't approve of, and don't want to be part of, but I'm going to tolerate them for a few hours because they're cool enough to come out to the same concert that I came out to.

I understand that if I choose to go to any rock concert, there most likely will be cigarette and marijuana smoke in the crowd. If you choose to do something about it by narking out the smokers, then you should understand that the entire place will hate you and that you might end up getting spit on, punched, or worse.

    Those are the two choices:
    a) Enjoy the show and deal with the very minor inconvenience of your air quality being briefly affected for a few hours.
    b) Nark out your fellow fans for smoking and deal with the possibility of being verbally, mentally, and even physically harassed.

All of the Pearl Jam shows I’ve been to were either in, or fairly close to, major metropolitan cities. The simple fact of the matter is that the air quality of those areas is worse for people than smoking a pack a day would be. So, it’s pointless to bitch about some fellow fan smoking near you at a concert when you breathe in carcinogenic air all day long.

you must be a smoker, right?

Thrown out of Va. Beach some years ago because some woman told on us for firing up a doobie. Heard most of the show from some fucked up security trailer behind the venue. Virginia sucks! Although the show there from this past tour was amazing!

The weird thing is I have been lumped in with the smokers on this thread. I don't smoke at concerts. All I was saying is you'll save yourself some aggravation if you just lighten up a little and expect a little smoke here and there. Kind of like going skiing and expecting a certain percentage of douchebags, or going camping and expecting a certain percentage of loudmouths, or going to the movies and expecting people talking a little during the movie. Just roll with it instead of letting it increase your blood pressure. I'm talking about having a little flexibility. It's not about what is legal or in violation of the rules.

    Pick your battles.
