i don't need to relax. Pearl Jam work very hard to put out the best music they can for themselves and their fans and people who don't even have half the talent as them think they are all of a sudden experts when it comes to writing songs and lyrics. like i said, if you can do it better, write some music and let us listen. i'm sure i won't be hearing any music on the radio or net from any of you who are criticizing these lyrics. i'm sure you don't even do your own job as well as pearl jam do theirs.
Hey -- thanks for the vote of confidence regarding my work. If you want to use the job analogy, as a professional engineer I would most likely be sued if I issued something as half-assed as The Fixer to a client. That's the beauty of art though -- nothing is half-assed and it is all subjective.
Let me ask you this: if you bought a new car and the manufacturer forgot to put brakes on it, would you defend the manufacturer and say "well I can't build a car better than this, so I guess I might as well like it" or would you possibly voice your displeasure by returning the car or writing on the manufacturers message board saying "they forgot to put brakes on my fucking car man!"

you know, i'm not even going to get caught up in this thread. if you think the lyrics are corny, so be it. i'll be singing it along with ed at the shows. the thing is...most criticizing it will probably be too. have a good one, you guys and gals can carry on about how corny they are. i'll bow out of this one.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.
This song gets in your head and wont leave . I keep thinking of crazy lyrics for it -
Gonna have a coke put a litte captain in it
If your tire is flat -put a little air in it
If your dog ran away you got to get it back again , yeah ,yeah yeah
How about the line "Ill dig your grave , we will dance and sing - Where did that one come from  ?
I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off
I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on
I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on
The christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top
I wish I was the evidence, I wish I was the grounds
For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky
I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me
I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good
I wish I was the full moon shining off a camaros hood
I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on
I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on
I wish I was the verb to trust and never let you down
I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up
I wish...
I wish...

oh wait...we aren't talking about wishlist?
i was never a huge fan of those lyrics either, but The Fixer makes that sound like Shakespeare.
This is one of the funniest threads that I have read on here in a long time. Thanks.
My same thoughts.
For the posters who think we can't laugh at the boys once in a while, do you really think they take everything so seriously? It reminds me of Sting singing on his first solo album "Every breath you take . . . Every cake you bake . . . Every leg you break."
Do you really need to start a thread for every fault you find in this one poor tune?
Get over it...
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I hate to say it but this song isn't even good enough to have made it on to riot act. If this is a sign to of things to come this is going to a very bad album.
so doctor,is it a boy?,,sorry miss,u are not carrying a babe yet...
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
'When I have promiscuous sex...I'm gonna put a little condom on it'.......wait, did I say little?
yeah
yeah
yeah............

this thread was a very funny read.....wee bit mean  ....but still very funny!
for the record, i have not yet heard the fixer, so cannot comment.
also for the recrod, i happen to LOVE wishlist.
corny?
perhaps.
but i love the sentiment and some of the visuals that come to mind with the lyrics.
however, reading that one line from the fixer, if i'd not known it was pj, reads like a country-western tune....
I can't believe people are comparing Wishlist to this..I dare you to write out The Fixer lyrics without laughing..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
Maybe the guys are running out of creative material as a band. I love Pearl Jam. I've seen them all over the states and was amazed by 90% of their shows (much better than any other band Iv'e seen more than once). I even have the "stick man" tat. That being said, the last album I thoroughly enjoyed was Yield. I liked The Fixer as soon as I heard it. That is scarry! It must be a weak song to be that catchy. But it is a positive song so I support it. See you in Philly!
Cheesiest PJ lyrics hands down are "U". I know it is a B-side, but wow!
Good call, but I think 'Don't Gimme No Lip' has it beat.

The verse lyrics to "the Fixer" weren't written to change your life or enlighten you. In this particular song, it is about the energy/catchiness of Ed's delivery and the music itself. The only lyric in the song that matters is the chorus "Fight to get it back again", which can relate to many different things and may actually inspire some folks... What is "it"? Country, freedom, love, health, career, sobriety, inner sense, happiness, etc.
I'm sure those who aren't big fans of "the Fixer" due to 'poorly written lyrics' will be happy with some of the other songs off Backspacer were the lyrics are a more integral aspect of the song. ie. Present Tense, In My Tree, Black.
With that said, I wouldn't be surprised to learn these are Matt Cameron's lyrics. He wrote the music and these words sound like Matt's to me.
But really though, I like this angular pop song. I like that it's different than their past stuff and to me it's their first song with radio appeal since wishlist. (How dare PJ write a radio friendly song!! ) That chorus is infectious and it gives a glimpse of hope to a dying world. I know it has personally put me in a better mood after a listen.

You know sometimes ignorance isn't always bliss
It's not afraid to "go there", and I like that in a song!

If the criticism is hot, put a little cool on it.
The only way to judge is to hear it LIVE!
That lyric (although you butchered it) is awesome. You just don't get or care for it's meaning.
The Fixer, however, does make me cringe.
