    Yo dudes, here's my five…

Reno ’93 …first show and probably the most raw. Just got back from my first trip to the islands days before and was still nursing reef cuts and glowing from sunburn. Best show I had ever seen to that point…Loved it when Vedder said: You’re all a bunch of lovely Rats, and I’m proud to be one of you…or something like that, haha.

Oakland ’97…wow this one is almost twelve years to the week. Was getting my first turns in of the year at a Tahoe resort and then shot down into the city to catch the Stones and Pearl Jam tear it up in the rain at the Coliseum..tons of crazyness happening that night.

San Diego ’98…stating any reasons here could be overkill, but flew in from Reno warmed up for the show with some water time at PB then was utterly blown away by the show. Coolest crowd ever, one of the best weekends I’ve ever had and the one show that probably cemented me as a fan forever, or at least casual fan forever..haha I’m not that cool..

Brisbane ’03…Great show after not seeing them since '00, and first time to Oz. Was just coming out of one of those ‘life don’t leave you alone’ patches and the whole trip was triggered when I arbitrarily heard Riot Act at the Goat Hill tavern in Costa Mesa a few weeks before. Really got lucky there

Philadelphia Spectrum 4 ’09…For me it was like a religious experience to finally step foot onto the Spectrum floor. Add in Pearl Jam closing the place out on the last night was almost too much for my faint little heart to handle…haha, great show in a city that is smoking hot at the moment.

Only 15 shows, but man I had to omit some Off the Charts shows to make this list..

    Ok here's my new list...top 4 only.

    1. Grand Rapids 2006 - 2nd row! 3 hour show! Had Red Mosquito, Sad, Satan's Bed, Hard to Imagine, Sleight of Hand, Parting Ways, Around the Bend and other favorites!! Great show!

    2. Benaroya Hall 2003 - Seeing PJ in an intimate venue with excellent acoustics = perfect evening

    3. LA 4 - Great Setlist, Great Seats, Great Performance and show

    4. Monterrey 05 - Wild GA crowd, small venue and great set with Long Road, In Hiding, Light Years, Off He Goes. Probably the most "into it" crowd I've seen at a PJ show.

    1. Gorge 05 - PJ opened for themselves. The show was loaded with rarities and bsides. It was the first real Pearl Jam gorge show (except opening for Neil Young in '93). It was awesome. The 06 shows were decent, but I think expectation was set so high in 05, that 06 didn't quite live up to it.

    2. Boise 2000 - People say the Seattle II 2000 show was awesome, I got the feeling at both Seattle shows, that Ed was trying to rekindle the magic from this show. Nothing to extrodinary of setlist, but the crowd was on fire. Barely any 10c fans there either. Use my friends brand new 10c membership for that show and we got row 6.

    3. Missoula '98 - It was the day after a big storm, the town was flooded, that atmosphere was awesome.

    4. Seattle II '98

    1. Barcelona 2006.
Maybe not the best show performance wise, but the atmosphere & the crowd made this night unforgettable

    2. Sheperds Bush 2009.
Wow, Lower balcony first row, stared right down on the boys as they teared it up. I will never have such a seat and view again! Brilliant show too! Ronnie Wood.

    3. Nijmegen 2007
Again, the setting got me + it was a huge show. I read in the paper the next day there was over 60,000 people there. That was 20,000 more than Rolling Stones managed to pull a few weeks earlier in the same park. Also getting release just as the sun was going down was great!

    4. London O2 2009
    Band was on!

    5. Oslo 2000
My first show. Dont remember much but listening to the boot shows that the band was very focused and played very tight, above par.
    I will swallow poison

    1. Alpine Valley '03 - Perfect weather, great venue and phenomenal setlist. Played lots of my favorites like Breath, Glorified G, Immortality, Insignificance.....

    2. Chicago '06 (night 2) - A little better setlist than the first night and my wife and I had 1st row seats.

    3. Boston '94 - First time I ever saw them and just an intense show. I remember Eddie breaking a hole in the stage and climbing through it at the end of the show.

    4. Chicago '09 (night 1) - Really good show and had great 3rd row seats again. They played some of my favorites that I hadn't seen very often like Life Wasted, Sad and In Hiding.

    5. Augusta, ME '96 - The only GA show that I've been to for PJ. The highlights were Dennis Rodman carrying Eddie on his shoulders during Alive and Patriot ending the show.

for my own reasons, not necessarily due to sets or sound or band performance.

    1. The VIC- first time I heard Hard To Imagine after many many years of waiting, and the setlist is 2nd to none
    2. 3-10-94 Chicago Stadium- my First show, the energy, the frogs, Ed's blurbs, and his proof of residency the Empire Carpet Jingle.
    3. Soldier Field 7-11-95: Epic set, huge crowd, just awesome, you didn't notice anything bad that day, his rip on the skybox people was classic Ed. Was a perfect concert.
    4. DC 08- an unsung gem in the pantheon of PJ shows
    5. 6-28-98 Alpine Valley WI- my first experience in the front row- dead center, Ed reaches down , grabs my sisters hand and places his pick in it, then closes her fingers around it. Think it was around wishlist.

HM 6-25-08 MSG, what a show
  • 1. 11/04/95 san jose : first pj show, dead man preshow, most of ten, vs, and vitalogy, brain of j, red mosquito, so you wanna be a rock n' roll star with the fastbacks and ben harper.....ed told some great stories, this got me hooked. big time. they had me at "release"

    2. 10/22/00 las vegas : 10th anniversary show, just a great experience. first crown of thorns, can't help falling in love, just a super love fest.

    3. 10/06/09 los angeles : really great show, went with my wife who i started dating the day after show #1 up above (talk about a great weekend in my life) one of my favorite shows and that was before mr. cornell came out and "made it a special night"

4a. 07/18/06 san francisco : not much to say about this except the band was really on. a few surprises, nice stories, and i will stand by the statement that the yellow ledbetter solo mike played this night is my favorite YL solo ever. great ending to a great show.

4b. 10/28/03 santa barbara : the special guests, the mood, my first show at the santa barbara bowl (my new favorite outdoor venue) fun setlist, and i can say i've been to both temple of the dog shows

    5. 07/13/06 santa barbara : "the mini gorge" show, not the best show i've ever been to, but really one of my favorites. it seemed to go by so fast, but the acoustic set, from the oceans opener sitting down, i knew it was going to be special.

sorry i couldn't keep it to 5. can't say i've ever been to a pj show i didn't like. also saw ed solo in santa barbara, and it was one of the best shows i've ever been to. it would most likely be somewhere here in the top five shows i've ever seen.

  • 1. Mansfield Night 3 - My second show. I randomly got tickets off of Ticketmaster three weeks before the show. Dead center row 18. Great seats for that amphitheater. You all know what happened.

    2. Seattle Night 2 '09 - Just an absolutely amazing show for my girlfriend and I. An underrated show. But great energy from the band and a great setlist. Breath-taking version of present tense. Faithful --->Lukin--->Not for you ---> NO WAY!

    3. SF Night 2 '06 - Was my eighth show at the time I believe and the first time I heard RVM - my favorite song. Unreal setlist. General admission show. Awesome crowd. That whole run of three shows in SF was fantastic.

    4. Toledo 2004 - Tiny venue, loud crowd...good times.

    5. Seattle Night 1 '09 - Rearviewmirror + debut of many of the new songs off of Backspacer + Long Road as teh opener + closing with Alive...seeing the band in their home town...

  • #1) AROSpace 5/7/98 - this was a secret club show in a club in Seattle. It was Matt's first ever show as drummer. We heard about it and waited in line outside for an hour or so, then they slowly let people in based on answering PJ trivia. Ed told us a story of going to a flea market that week and buying two things: A 45 of Last Kiss (which I believe they played that night for the first time) and a Michael Jordan bong which he showed us. #1 because it was 250 people tops

#2) Moore Theater 2/5/95 - Fan club only show in Seattle. Somehow I got a ticket for $100. I was able to get front row just before the orchestra pit. The band was incredible. Neil Young came out for the encore and did some Mirror Ball songs. Awesome

#3) Gorge - 9/5/93 - First ever PJ show. All of my buddies had seen them at Off Ramp and RCKNDY and were in the crowd for the videos but I lived in Oregon during that time. I finally got to see them at the Gorge with Blind Melon and Neil Young. This was my favorite PJ period as Vs. was fairly new and they were the biggest band in the land. I remember the volume being punishing

    #4) LA3 - 10/6/09 - Chris Cornell, Hunger Strike - nuff said

#5) Boston - 5/26/06 - 5th row center, crowd was awesome - Boston is great - Ed pre set and with MMJ. Great energy and set list.

Honorable mention - Phoenix in 2000: Watch Touring Band 2000 - stormy night, for rolling in, thunder and rain, and sounded great and two songs are on the DVD............
