To those who have never experienced a Philly crowd - more so than the actual show - you will absolutely love it. Every word to every song sung to the rafters by every single person in the venue.
This is exactly it! I was truly in awe of the crowd. I was way up in the rafters, and completely amazed because it did seem that every single person knew every word to every song - but me. I was a bit of slacker on some songs, but boy oh boy I can hum along with the best of them ;)

I've seen 7 shows in Boston/Mansfield and 3 at MSG and that 4/28/03 crowd has never been recreated yet for me.

Same here...been to 4 Boston shows, and 2 MSG's. Nothing on it.
  • I went to both MSG shows last year and while i had an awesome time the Mansfield shows had better crowds...just the betterman "incident" last year during Mansfield I put both shows to shame...and the Boston Orpheum shows are legendary..and we all know about the experiment, even MSG '03 can't fuck with that!

Well, it was the first show in the city of Philadelphia in 11 years. The last time before the Spectrum that PJ played in Philly itself was the night before their first SNL appearance in 1992.

it's true. it can't even be compared to other 'philly' shows. none of the camden shows held a candle to the spectrum. wachovia 05 wasn't bad, though. :)

(and i'm sorry, but i've been to the 03 and 08 msg shows and i think they were overhyped/overrated! :o )

I agree with you on the 08 MSG but 03 was right up there with 03 spectrum, I think to me because of them playing MSG after 911

With Ben Harper and the R7 opening they will be the best overall shows hands down.

PJ will not find a better band to open on the east coast.

Actually the only way the Philadelphia shows will come close would be Kings of Leon as the opening band.

They might play longer at the Spectrum, but the overall concert experience will be the west coast shows.

Ben's new band is the REAL DEAL, I was lucky enough to catch him at the 9:30 club about 50 feet from the stage.

Actually Ben might put on a better show than PJ.
Well, if you attend a show to see the opening band, then you may be right. I've listened to East Coast and West Coast bootlegs, and I attended a PJ Philly show (oooooohlala Philly 05!) The san diego 06 shows basically *started* around the encores (according to how they were recorded.) The Philly show started the moment the first song started. I'm sure all shows will be incredible, and congratulations to those that are able to see them this year. However, if you ever attend a Philly show . . . .prepare for musical bounty from the heavens!

Well put. To those who have never experienced a Philly crowd - more so than the actual show - you will absolutely love it. Every word to every song sung to the rafters by every single person in the venue.

I honestly would hate that. I mean one or two songs maybe but every song? That would suck.

Nah, the crowd is the 7th member when they come to Philly. And if ya hate hearing 15,000 people singing in unison at the top of their lungs with a ton of passion and cannot appreciate that, then well, I don't know what to tell you. Welcome to Philadelphia, people.

No I totally hear ya...it's amazing when it happens on a couple of songs. I just think it would annoy me if it was a lot songs.

I'm not going to the show so SING AWAY PHILLY!

Opening bands suck; this is great news for a much better experience. Even the so-called great Liam Finn didn't help Eddie's shows.

I'm not so sure about that. I had never seen or really heard of Liam and I was somewhat impressed by their music, presence and energy opening for EV.

I'll take my 4 intimate shows at the 6000 seat Gibson then roll down to San Diego for the weekend to enjoy some PJ and some more beach. You guys enjoy the Spectrum in "beautiful" Philly. With your big d*cks and the entire crowd singing to the rafters!

I live in Philly, and have been to shows all over the US. East Coast shows are so much better than West Coast shows, imo.

I went to shows in LA, San Diego, and Vancouver, and those shows were kind of weak compared to shows I've seen on the East Coast.

Now, the Gorge in 2005 was the best show I've ever seen.

Haha... Ben Harper not being in Philly was the best news I heard throughout all this. I really can't handle listening to him butcher Indifference!

It's apparent you have never listen to or experienced Ben live.

His vocal range is far superior to Eddie's.

Then add in the fact he can play every instrument on stage, Ben is without a doubt the greater talent.

With that said I love PJ as much as anyone here. Ed is clearly the better writer and I agree more with his view of life and a lack of a God.

But don't discount Ben on his singing of a song that isn't even his.

Plus if he was butchering the song do you really think Ed would call him to the stage?

This is comical to me. Ben is the greater talent? Far superior vocal range?? What the hell are you smoking???
