It could just be they already have it booked in the south but just have to wait to announce because of ACL.
so you're thinking it won't get announced until AFTER ACL?
Nah it would just be announced closer to it so that people thinking of going to ACL would not want to change travel plans if there were headlining shows of the bands own.
I REALLY hope that something does get announced- but then why would they schedule shows before and right after ACL- wouldn't it be smarter to just leave them open if they were going to schedule something right after ACL since they would already be in TX? I just don't get it.

Yeah I was thinking about that as well, basically I think they wanted to play a smaller venue in LA and obviously had time constraints. My best guess obviously.

There is a very real, good reason that Vedder and company seem to shun the South. I live in Florida so I'm not partial. I was at the Memphis show. I paid for the seats and to fly, and for hotels. There was at least one absolute fucking HILLBILLY yodelling, yelling at Vedder, and making ridiculous, drunk comments, and also yelling at the opening act, screaming "Kiwi" because the guy said he's from New Zealand. How fucking childish. Vedder even lit into this jackass. It came close to ruining the entire show. It demonstrated a complete lack of class and, like it or not, it came through in a distinctly SOUTHERN manner. If you in the South want Vedder to appear, you need to control and corral those southern monkeys who do not know how to keep their southern mouths shut. It was simply amazing to listen to this guy, and maybe a few others -- young, dumb, drunk losers. I was very tempted to stand up and grab that moron and provoke him. That behavior at a show with one of the best performers in the world is disgusting, and the venue, and/or the jackasses around him, should have thrown that guy out on his ass. If you, the deep, scary south, the same south that routinely attacked and discriminated against all kinds not very long ago, don't want the reputation of being a bunch of hickish hicks, get your act together. Otherwise, Vedder is well within his rights to shun the South for good.
Yeah, I get what you're saying about the idiot in Memphis. Nashville and Atlanta both had people who needed tossed, but if you read the other fanviews it seems that each show, regardless of location, had at least one moron. You gotta realize that Ed played in small, quiet, intimate venues where the voices in the crowd carried a little better than they do at larger, louder Pearl Jam shows. I live in southeastern Tennessee and have been to many Pearl Jam shows in the southeastern United States, all of them packed and rockin', and I never heard voices carry as I did at the Ryman or Cobb Center. I guarantee Ed and the band have been annoyed by morons in the crowd everywhere. There's gotta be another reason they don't play around here anymore.
"If you, the deep, scary south, the same south that routinely attacked and discriminated against all kinds not very long ago, don't want the reputation of being a bunch of hickish hicks, get your act together"
Let's be realistic here, come on, the South isn't anymore scary than say, Philly or Detroit. And brother, discrimination is nationwide and worldwide. Let's leave our personal feelings at the door and put on our thinking caps. Yes, the evils of the southern United States are very well documented well into the 1960's, but hey, you're a Pearl Jam fan, NO WAY you're that big of an idiot. To truly believe that tying racial discrimination of the past into a vent about an idiot at an Eddie Vedder concert makes any true sense, right? Hickish hicks, huh? It's 2009, man. Come on....
I was very tempted to stand up and grab that moron and provoke him.
you should have. why didn't you?
and i'm sure ed knows for every jackass like that in the south, (or anywhere for that matter) there is a pretty girl like me willing to smile up at him for the whole show. ....if 10c puts us in the front row that is.
i don't know who's worse, a southern jackass redneck, or someone that assumes all southeners are jackass rednecks.

I think I read somewhere that the main reason they didn't come to the South more often was that the shows didn't sell out like the ones in the North East. If more people bought tickets when they made the effort to play down south, they'd probably come down more often.
Let's make it worth their while to make the trip, and then we can stop all these arguments!!!

they are already playing ACL and shows in dallas and houston would have sold out. if they never play here their audience here will continue to get smaller too.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

It's not a race issue so much as a general cultural (or lack thereof) issue. I have lived all over the country. The culture, at least as represented at that venue, was shameful and backward. And do not pretend that the culture you and I know about disappeared in the 60's, that's just naive. Of course there are idiots everywhere. But these distinctly southern hicks ruined the show. It left a terrible taste in my mouth concerning Memphis. Own it and change your culture, otherwise stick with country concerts and don't expect the likes of pearl jam.
dont blame the south for the only ones having bad "fans"...Boston has some pretty annoying fans as well...its all over you cant just blame one region
ive also come to accept the fact that the only city in the midwest is Chicago and us here in St. Louis should just join forces and call oursleves St. Loucago...ooooh but we must keep our sports teams seperate of course
