Did those Florida shows end up selling out or was it just the 10C tix that didnt sell out?
I recall all the Houston and Dallas shows always selling out, so why not come back here instead of the southeast?

A show doesn't have to sell out to be profitable does it? I don't argue that there isn't as much demand in the south as in the NE, but there is still enough demand to justify a few shows, IMO.

I'm not sure whether or not those Florida shows ended up being sell outs or not. You're correct, that a show doesn't have to sell out to be profitable, but the less tickets sold equals less concessions, merchandise, parking, etc, which equals less total profit. The goal of a business is to maximize profits, so if you are going to only play limited number of shows, you should play the most profitable ones available. I don't have any hard figures to back this up, but I have the feeling that the shows in the Northeast are the most profitable PJ plays.

so you are saying the entire goal of PJ playing music is to make as much money as possible. It has nothing to do with spreading their love and feelings to as many people as possible. Of course they have to take care of their financial responsibilities, but give me a break... they aren't fucking losing money playing in the South. And maybe if they did it more often, the fan base might become more rabid again. I mean, unless the guys are just trying to see how much money they can make over their careers.

I'm not saying the majority of tickets weren't sold, but even if only 5% of tickets went unsold, that is un-realized profit. At MSG, even the obstructed view tickets are sold.

No, I'm saying the goal of the Tour Manager is to make money. I think its the Tour Manager that lines up the dates. Obviously the guys have input, but they're not on the phone with the venues doing the negotiations.

Is the cost of renting out MSG not more expensive then renting out the forum in Tampa? What about hotels? I know those are more expensive in NY. Cost of labor I'm sure is more expensive in NY. I have no idea how much profit they make at each show, but I just really hope they care more about spreading their music than making an extra dime.

Yes, yes, and yes. You are correct, everything in NY is more expensive, but so are the tickets, so I think it balances out. I like to believe that the guys only care about playing music, and that its the management group that is making the financial decisions. I'm not rooting against the South getting shows, just trying to explain my thoughts on why they continue to get passed over. Matter of fact, I'm flying to Austin for ACL. I've never been there, and PJ is giving me the excuse to make the trip. I'd love for them to play New Orleans or some other southern city I'd like to visit.

Remember, this is a business. If I recall correctly, last year all the Philly and MSG shows sold out immediately (and some crashed the server.) However, the Florida Ten Club tickets were available for weeks, and I'm not sure if they ever sold out. Supply meet demand - its the Economic Love Story.

nice call... i recall posting something a response like that on the PLEASE PLAY THE SOUTH threads... i coulndt belive that after all of the complaints, the south had 4-5 shows to choose from and they went without selling out... hell, i went to Tampa from NY to see them... got 10c tix and they were pretty good!

they will play 2 shows in ATL, I bet they play Birmingham and Greenville, SC as well.
exactly. At least Ed came to Atlanta and played two killer shows. Other than Maui, I think they were the best of the tour.

Honolulu 2 blew them all out of the water.
Back on topic. Jeff already stated that PJ would be playing a few shows in the south, so I'd be more than confident that they'll be there sometime in the first half of 2010

people, quit saying "you will get shows next year" as if you know! we won't get any non-festival shows anytime soon. they know we want to see them. they know Texas has multiple huge cities and THEY DON'T CARE! whether it's less money, politics, the heat? who fucking knows but i don't expect to see them after ACL for a looooong time!

What are the chances of a 2010 tour? I keep hearing people mention they aren't playing any, but I find that ridiculous.

it was from an interview that he did when TONE came out. All that he said was that he was looking forward to coming back to the south in 2009 (which meant ACL). He never said "shows" plural or anything about 2010

True, the smaller markets do not, which makes sense as they are similar in size to some of the southern markets. Philly and New York always do, and I feel like this whole thread is about Philly getting 2 shows and the South getting none.

Not intended that way. As I said in another thread Philly can have all the shows they want and I understand the Spectum thing and all of that. I went the Camden 2006 shows so I see the love they get there.

I don't it's that at all. I think people are just upset because they expected at least a couple of shows to surround ACL- or at least something in the south
