The Angels can't beat the Sox in the post season. See 1986, 2004, 2007, and 2008.

Please. Let's all suck the Sawx weenis's's's's's some more. With that said, I would love to see a bunch of bean eaters come to Philly to cry their eyes out. Anyway, I don't even know if the Fall Classic will have started by then, as I know it's running into the first of November this year due to the WBC.

Well there ya go. And I have no problem with everyone writing off the Phils.

Oh, how people do not learn. This is the exact same spot they were in last year. If anything, people should learn that the only thing you can do in Major League Baseball from April till the beginning of August is lose your season but not win it. As long as they don't fall off the face of the Earth, and they're playing their best ball entering September, then that's all I care about. Everyone was allllll over the Dodgers, Sawx, and Cubs jocks in the playoffs...Look how that turned out. ;)

Look for me at the tailgate wearing this shirt - barring it's not Halloween nor the World Series.

Well there is no way the National League could win an All Star game, so I guess it won't be in Philly. But if the Yanks are playing in the Philly in the World Series, the same day Pearl Jam is in the same parking lot... that's too much for me to handle.

Well, the Phils beat up the Rays, who beat the Sox, last October. They went 2-1 in the Bronx in May, and they were an un-called instant replay away from beating the Sox 2-1 in Philly last month.

Plus they have a lot of good prospects to trade if someone like Halladay becomes available.

I know. Just like how they had a losing record in interleague last year and didn't have home field advantage and ended up hurting them in the long run too right? Yeah, exactly.

I hate instant replay, but they need to be consistent about when/whether to use it if it's going to be part of MLB.

But anyway, my point was we went toe to toe with the Sox in that series, and we've been much more of a September and October kind of team the past two years.

Losing Myers hurt, and Lidge is a question mark now, but we'll make a big trade or two to improve.

The Phils did look good against the Sox - not counting the rain delay game on Saturday. I mean counting that Series the Sox are 14-4 against the Phils the last 5 years, but this year's team looks like a good match against Boston.

Meh...I don't see much difference. If anything, we're better offensively with Ibanez than Burrell. Pitching will be sure'd up by then. I'm tellin ya, this is the EXACT same scenario/situation as last year. They're definitely making a trade for pitching after the All-Star break. And, man, if they land Halladay - if there's any real substance to Ricciardi saying what he's saying - then holy shitballs watch out.

The Phils would be scary with Halladay. But would they add an additional 5 mil to payroll this year and 15 plus next year.

They already have the 4th highest payroll in baseball (Boston is 6th btw.) And if they add Halladay they would move to 2nd for next year.

see i thought lasts year team would of been an amazing match... can you picture Cole Hamels vs. Josh Beckett.. Game 1 of the World Series.. that would have been epic at the least.

i just dont think the phillies have what it takes to... win the world series... barring they get there first.

im not trying to glorify the sox at all. they have the best record in the AL and it shows.

Well, Myers makes what? 15 this year? And he's coming off the books, so adding Halladay would be sort of awash. And I think it's been reported that the Phils wouldn't mind taking on some salary if it's the right caliber of player. They can afford it too this year - no one can tell me otherwise. Seriously, Halladay - a sinker ball pitcher - in The Bank who has a lifetime 3.47 ERA in the AL. Imagine that in the NL...on this team. Hamels and Halladay? 1A & 1A. That, to me, would be the best tandem since Johnson and Schilling. And, I would give up all these prospects for him since you land him for another year - if the rumor of Drabek, Taylor, and Happ is legit then I'm doing that in a heartbeat. Throw in whatever other prospect you want too.

im not trying to glorify the sox at all. they have the best record in the AL and it shows.

Well last year would have been interesting if the Sox had pulled out Game 7 against Tampa. Myers is on record saying he will never pitch in Fenway after the whole spouse abuse incident in Boston. That would have hamstrung the Phils because he wouldn't have been able to pitch except for Game 4, but alas that never came to be.

But I think the four best teams in baseball and the LCS' will be Sox and Yanks and Phils and Dodgers. No matter how it plays out Fox will be happy.

Not necessarily. Bretty Myers ($12MM) would come off the books next year, as would the money we're currently paying to Jenkins ($6MM), Eaton ($8MM), and even Thome ($2.5MM).

Myers is at 12 mil this year.

If the Halladay trade happened, the Phils payroll would be at 112 million without resigning any free agents or signing anyone who is arbitration eligible in the offseason. Only the Yanks who are committed to $166 mil would be higher. (Actually the Cubs are committed to $119) So the Phils would be third. Sorry about the mistake in my previous post.

Yeah, to me, the Braves are the threat in the division. But they've already gone on record to say that they most likely won't add another bat. I think McLouth was their only big move. I really like their pitching, but they can't hit for dick. Marlins are going to stick around only because of their pitching, but will drop off in the long run. The Mets, the more they play like a AAAA team, might put themselves in too much of a hole to even think about crawling out come August. So that leaves Atlanta to me. Honestly - and I'm not trying to be a homer here - (and knock on wood) if the Phils hit their stride right about now, I don't think it'll matter come September.
