The only good thing to come out of Last Kiss is the charity driven red vinyl limited to 3500 copies. Its a great collectable now and it was made for a good cause. I do remember it getting heavy radio play on rock stations and even the light rock/ top 40 stations. Got burned out on it very quickly due to overplaying it on the radio.

BTW, i dont know how people can be sick of any PJ song, but then say they love YLB !
I could do without hearing YLB close 95% of the shows myself, but thats just me.
The thing about YLB for me, it is like the perfect way to say goodbye. I know it is the last song, so it gives me 5-6 minutes to take it all in, house lights on, look around the venue, enjoy these last few minutes together.
I also think YLB rarely takes the place of another song. A lot of times it is played after RITFW or Baba or Fuckin Up or something like that and so it is almost like a bonus final song.
words seem so out of place.

I still like this song after 10 years. I am one of the few that like it live. I like the crowd participation in it as well. I like how they sing it to the behind crowd most of the time. I think the band gets a kick out of playing it and still very much alive on setlists.

Last Kiss is THE WORST song Pearl Jam has ever recorded. This continues to be the only song that I refuse to stand and sing along with when played live. Terrible...just terrible.
The only good thing about this song is that it raised money for charity.
its kind of embarrassing when i say to people, "my fav band ever is pearl jam", thinking we might have a great convo, and they get this look and say, "the guys who covered last kiss?!?!". i get the same look and say "yes" with my head held a little low .
really wish they wernt so well known for this song. also its a terrible cut, eddie sounds like shit on it. i know they never meant for it to be what it was so again its kind of a shame. like that rock around barak song, this one should be put into the archives.
I liked it when it came out and I still do. I think the story of the song makes it so much better, and I wish more people knew it, and that things like that happened more often. Remember, this was a song only available on vinyl to fan club members, and I believe it was a radio station in Boston that started playing it, and it just kept growing, and for a long time of it being popular, I don't think Pearl Jam even provided radio stations with a non-vinyl ripped version. I mean, how often does something like that happen in pop music? Never. The DJs just play the singles they get from the record company in the mail and that's it, rarely do they seek a new song out, or find something they enjoy and share it with their fans, let alone turning a song that took around $1000-$2000 to record one take of in to the #2 song in the country. This is an example of a song getting huge on it's own right, and I think that is something to be proud of. Just my two cents.
actually it was Philly and the DJ was Matt Cord who is a 10C Member. Ed mentioned this on stage in Camden (i think the last time through) that it was 1st played in Philly.
the first time i ever heard it was in Knoxville, i think it was only the second time they played it (Ed said it was because of a car crash they saw on the way). i was blown away by it live. They played it with a lot of emotion.
i remember being a little dissappointed by it when the cd came out, but it was nice. i can understand why a lot would hate it, but its the song i remember most from that show.
I was 15-16 when it came out and was on the radio here.
I remember it being #1 on Rage (a music video show) and it had no video, so the show just showed the #1 song on the screen and that is it, no music just the title.
So then I heard it on radio and loved it, taped it and blasted it.
My first real introduction to the band.

I have no ill will towards the song itself, really. It's not a great song, but if PJ wants to cover an old, cheesy tune, more power to them. What I hate is what this song became, what the *public* did to the song. Even today, when I bring up Pearl Jam in conversation, people will say things like: "Yeah, man, they used to be such a great band, but then.. What happened? Last Kiss? What the fuck was that shit?" All I can do is lamely try to explain it was never meant for the general public, but it falls on deaf ears.
The song DID bring a lot of attention to the band when a lot of people considered them to be in the "twilight" of their careers, but I think it took a lot of years (maybe until Avocado) to wash the sweet taste of the song out of the public's mouths and convince them that they still knew how to rock, even though the band never stopped rocking.
Frankly, I can't stand to listen to the tune, and get a little bummed out when I hear it live. But, hey, it's just one song out of 26 or so, so I can deal.

The only good thing about this song is that it raised money for charity.
the release of the last kiss single raised money for a very important cause at the time.
for that, i think its a good thing.

sure people hate it, but for me its quality. They deliver it well and raised loads of cash, what is there not to like about this?
I think it's a Fun song.

It's not an original... they never intended for it to make the splash it did... *shrug*
yeah it made a splash alright...just like a big turd hitting the water of your toilet bowl! KERR-SPLOOSH!!

The song sucked in the 50ss and still sucks now
